I just wanted to clarify a few things about this type of system.
My first set of questions is about weapon abilities:
Example: If I have unlocked three classes that all use two handed swords. The weapon abilities they get when using a two handed sword are different right?
Can those weapon abilities for separate classes be swapped in or mixed and matched? Or can I only use the weapon abilities for whatever is currently my main(??) class? Not sure if that's an understandable question but there you go.
My second set of questions concerns the character abilities:
Am I correct in understanding that I can use character abilities from any of the classes I have unlocked in my four ability slots?
I don't really mind the eight slots but it'd be nice if they made the skills (still tied to weapon types) but somewhat open like the original guild wars skill deck system. Of course, that is just me and I understand many folks aren't stoked about what has been said (suggested, implied, revealed...whatever).

Killing dragons is my shit
Yes, the weapon skills would be different per class.
The weapon skills cannot be swapped out with other weapons skills. The first four skills are only changeable.
Yes, you can use whatever skills you unlock from other classes for your first four skills. But the skills are classified. So if you're a wizard, you have two offensive skills, one utility, one movement skill. So they have to be replaced with a skill thats the same category.
Word.
Mostly I was just curious about weapon abilities. Since the class panel talked about three different classes that were able to use the same weapon type but would get different weapon abilities from that weapon type.
I think it'd be nice if I could use the weapon abilities from any classes I had that use that weapon type.
Like two two handed sword skills from one class and a third two handed sword skill from another class and a final two handed sword skill from a completely different class.
They should do that. I think it'd add more variability.
Georgeson said that if you play a Rogue you can choose to use the Teleport skill (Mage) for example.
That cancel "Roles" in EQN
I don't mind a Rogue switching to a Tank or to a Healer, but mixing and matching all skills is just too messy and will create confusion when deciding the roles within a group.
So we need to think in term of weapons and not classes - your weapon determines what class you are, not the other way around.
Weapon "dagger" gives you class rogue; weapon "sword" could also give you class rogue. However, a dagger rogue would have different weapon abilities than a sword rogue. These are the first 4 set of abilities - weapon abilities. They are static with the weapon/class combo you are playing.
Character abilities are listed as offensive, defensive, motion/movement and utility. These can be used from any "class" that you have unlocked. So a dagger rogue might have 2 offensive slots, 1 movement/motion and 1 utility slot. Any offensive skill you have learned from other classes can be used in 1 of your 2 offensive slots; same with the other slots.
So in my example above - your dagger rogue would have 4 weapon abilities that are locked by the "class" you are playing, and 4 character abilities that you can pick and choose from other classes you have unlocked.
This is at least my understanding from the panel discussions.
Fair point. I suppose we just have to wait and see exactly how the skills work for each class. This combat system is just very MOBA styled to me. I find MOBA combat boring, but I guess simplicity wins players these days.
I don't think your scenario is quite accurate. Your rogue isn't just going to be able to switch to a tank or a healer.
A rogue could use character abilities from any class, let's go with druid and gain a heal, but that doesn't automatically make him a healer; it makes him a rogue that has a single healing ability. What the rogue could do is out of combat change weapons, so he starts using his "healer" or druid class. Then his 4 weapon abilities become those of the druid class. The 4 character abilities could stay the same, if a druid and rogue have the same ability setup. So now you have a healer class that acts more like a rogue, but is not really a rogue.
These are going to be the subtle things that allow players to choose their own play style.
The weapons and armor are decided by the class you choose.
You could choose a class with a two handed sword that only uses leather armor.
Then add character abilities of whatever you have unlocked for the other four slots.
Any unlocked class can be your main class which decides the weapons and armor type available.
That is how I understand it.
According the developers it isn't a matter of just changing weapons. They specifically state that classes will have overlap on weapon types. The class determines the types of weapons you can use. The class also determines the types of skills you'll have with a weapon type.
So in order to change your weapon abilities you can either change class and weapon, change class and keep the same weapon type (assuming the new class uses that type of weapon), or stay the same class and change to another weapon type it can use.
That was what I took away from the reveal and class panel.
Thanks Weslubow. That is how I understood it too. Sadly I was hoping you'd be able to pick and choose weapon abilities from any class that uses that same weapon type.
