Actually from what I understood it does, because you don't create things out of thin air but the same as in minecraft you need to get the material for this first in Landmark as well. So while you shape a block of stone or a piece of leather in Landmark, you have to get it first and turn it into some useful material. Or if you want to do a window, you have to first make glass etc.
World building is world building. Crafting is crafting. I enjoy both, but they are mutually exclusive except for some possible overlap with resource gathering. They can both exist in the same game. But one does not replace the other or assume the other's function.
For clarification on what I'm opining:
If I gather a bunch of bricks and make a building, I would not call that crafting. Just like I would not gather a bunch of metal to make a sword and call it world building.

They said somewhere it will be moderated for those type of things.
Yes. This is the crafting in the game far as housing goes.
Guessing the other crafting will be revealed later.
I will say that this does seem weird.
Make a sand castle at your house and then take it to the beach!(if SOE approves and no one else has made that sandcastle exactly as it may interfere with Player studio.) What fun!
Seems very disconnected to the game. *Shrug*
Can't make many judgements til the game is released though.
I don't know, this cash shop stuff makes me suspicious of everything they do. Financing a game through a cash shop---nothing can be done just because it would be fun for the players. Everything has to tie in with the cash shop and herding players in there to throw money away.
So this landmark thing; it sounds good at first but then you realize how it's going to be warped by the cash shop and it doesn't look so great anymore. I noticed that they said you have to go out and collect materials to build with in landmark and you will be able to buy those materials in the cash shop. Uh huh, so then I have to wonder just how incredibly tedious it will be to collect them yourself. I'm sure it will be quite a grind but, hey, you can just drop some money in the cash shop and save yourself the trouble....hurray!
Ok, so now you've built your castle or whatever in landmark (after buying materials in the cash shop) and now you want to import it into the EQ next game. Oh, you have to buy it first in the cash shop. That's right, you did the work to create this thing and paid money to do it and now you have to buy the thing you designed. But that's not all, you don't get the finished castle, you just get a blueprint for it and then have to build it again in the EQ next game. To do that you're going to need materials again----(evil laughter) and where do you get materials? That's right sucker, in the cash shop.
So you pay to build the thing. Then you pay to buy the blueprint of the thing you built. Then you pay to build it again. What fun.
have any of you worked with home building programs? ...you can lay out your floorplan and then in the end it gives you a list of materials you need .
Same here, you design the building in landmark, it comes with a compiled list of what you used to build it....30K Stone, 20K wood, 15K Sand or what ever....if it gets introduced into EQN, then that list comes with it, and now someone purchases the blueprint of your building, and they have a list of what needs to be used to make it in game. Now you have your crafting component.

SO you think crafting in this game is just another grocery list of drag n drop resources? I hope not.
um...no...actually, I am hoping they look at the now defunct Horizon for how to make building structures.
i.e. .....your design could take something like the following....
15 Oak support beams
30 oak Frame support
125 maple boards
56 foundation stone
25 marble pillars
30 marble crennallations
Then you go out in the world, gather some oak wood, craft the timbers or beams, add them to the plot to progress your building. perhaps that makes it a little clearer.

I dunno. It just sounds like youre adding a drag n drop step before you drag n drop the final product.
Originally posted by Brynn I'm finding it confusing on why anyone would want to spend time crafting/creating only to have their work destroyed. There is pride in well crafted items, buildings, etc. Where is my misunderstanding in this?
The world regenerates.
So your structure might get destroyed in a battle, but it will respawn shortly after. I can't imagine that the regeneration time is longer than a few minutes otherwise too much would be destroyed all the time as thousands of people run around the world smashing things to bit (sometimes on purpose, sometimes during the course of a fight).
You can also make things open for destruction or keep them locked and safe.
As for the basis of building, players will have to gather the materials they want and then they can use the materials to place blocks before shaping and painting them with the tools provided. Brushes will be scalable, so detailed work is possible.

Yeah I didnt see the crafting correlation either......Some people consider playing with blocks crafting I guess.....
They said somewhere it will be moderated for those type of things.
Nevermind. I answered my own question.
