Am I the only one thinking this ?

Who else thinks every single class will be on the marketplace to buy so you don't have to quest for them or adventure to find them ?  40 classes seems obvious the number of them were high for that very reason doesn't it ?

Did no one really ask that question at SOE Live ?  I would love some answers to what exactly they plan on allowing people to buy with cash.  This being F2P they have to make money after all.

The question was asked. How will players be able to find the classes. The answer was, loot drops and/or quests or being in the right place at the right time. Class panel video, the final question asked.

Well, not right away but every game seems to offer more on the marketplace once it loses its luster.  It would be nice if game publishers weren't interested in milking money out of lazy customers but unfortunately we live in a capitalistic society where everyone tries to make as much money as they can by doing the least amount of work.

So no one thought to ask will players be able to buy the classes in the cash shop ?   Or what will be on the cash shop ?   I guess they wouldn't answer it anyway right now.

Thing is, SOE did the opposite.

EQ2 started with a lot of classes/races locked to the F2P players who could then unlock them via cash shop purchase. After gathering feedback from players they removed this, opening all classes/races for F2P players with the exception of Beastload (expansion pack class) and Freeblood (specialty race). They even removed the inventory locks.

There is an interview with Dave and Brasse where they explain why they did this and opened up the F2P system. They would rather you enjoy the game and then consider maybe spending money in the cash shop, than to stick their hand out every chance they get.

That's well and fine except EQ2 made you pay to equip (ie activate) loot drops of any worth.(at least when I played)  As such it seems pretty clear that you will have to find the classes via loot drops etc. and then pay to activate most of them.

This^^^^. You can tell those that either haven't played EQ2 lately or not at all.  They assume the F2P model is just like many of the rest.  They think its P2W with awesome armor and weapons for sale.

Heres an idea, EQ2 is F2P, download it and see for yourself.  That should provide a good idea of how the cash shop may work in EQN.  There are cool LOOKING weapons and such, but if you are thinking about buying that top sword or breastplate, you'll be looking for a very long time.

I considered it a certainty and never even questioned they wouldn't sell the classes. But that doesn't matter, finding them is just one part of the horizontal progression. After that you still have tiers of gear, and learning to use all forty of them and when to use what class and in what way. There is enough to work at and earn that optionally buying classes won't break the game at all. In fact it'll be good.

See, part of the deal with the classes is finding them.  Some will require you increase factions with one group, decreasing with others, finding old tomes, helping people who will reward you with the knowledge of the class..and whatever crazy other ways they think up.  The process is an integral part of the game and encourages vast degrees of world exploration and interactions.  It gets you out into the world and highly involves you in it.  The more time you spend in the world increases your investment into the game and the community.

Selling that just seems silly.  They want you to play their game for years, not buy everything in the first 5 minutes after character creation.

That does not mean that it won't be purchasable if you so chose nor did they say how hard it will be to get the classes.  The option to pay is very sound and somewhat expect it to be purchasable.  Even if classes could be purchased there was no way in hell they would have stated you could in the unveiling since CS always have been under scrutiny.

Completely missed what the OP was getting at.

You could always pay a sub and not have worry about it on any character you create.  Just saying.

I don't know what you people expect.  I guess SOE is supposed to create a game, let you download it for free, play it for free and have access to every single thing in the game for free.  So, while you get to play for free, how do they generate revenue to keep servers running, pay for developing new content to give you for free, keep the lights on in the buildings where all this free content is and will be created for you to have for free, and oh yeah, how are they going to PAY the developers to develop all this for you to have and play for free?  I guess we are living in the 24th century where we have an evolved sensibility and where money is no longer used or needed huh?

At the same time the company needs to make a revenue.  I really wonder and am concerned with how the CS will be.  The game look to take a huge amount of investment building and investors expect a return.  "Vanity and time efficient items only" CS I'm not buying.

I think they will, it is too tempting to not sell them imo....It is a convienience by definition, which is what people say the cash shop is about...Having more classes will not make you more powerful, supposedly, so no reason for them to not sell them for $10 or $20 each.

I hate cash shops, and I prefer p2p, but I would actually be suprised if the classes were not in the shop, and they said something about tiers on classes, so probably potions to progress through tiers faster.

When something is f2p, they are going to do this, it is like buying heros in LoL, you can earn them, or buy them, same with EQN.

If this caused a net gain in profit, verse people they pissed off, they would....But it doesn't fit the formula, classes are not a necessary thing, where as being rezd is...They said themselves, you can play your starter class only, and you will be just as powerful as someone else with all 40 classes according to them, so what is the problem with them selling everything, since their is no levels....Something called tiers, so probably will be potions to help with that.

And this does not resemble any of their other games.  I am saying they would not consider it p2w, because 1 class is = to someone with 40 classes, so why not.  You do not have to buy them, you can get them all by playing, so it isn't a forced mechanic...Sounded like housing and such will be sold also...These are all optional things, you could play the game 100% without them.

We will see, but I see it as too big of a money maker to pass up.

Or they could have a sub and not nickel and dime us for what used to be standard in games. Pay for classes? The genre degrades with every game, as we gamers keep letting them.

I'm just hoping their F2P model is nothing like Everquest where you have to pay to unlock most of the classes and even races not to mention content. I could see them having all classes available ingame for discovery and unlocking however giving you only a select number of classes you can learn (kinda like limited character slots or whatnot) and for5cing you to pat to unlock more slots so you can get more of the classes ingame. I truly hope this is NOT the way it will work though but only time will tell.

Overall I love what I am seeing and hearing about EQNext but no matter how good it is the F2P Model they decide to use will be the big deal breaker.
