Everquest Next is at least a year out from release most likely
2014 is sizing up to be quite the year in about every way it seems
So its going to be a decade since WoW and EQ2 was released
Ya its about time for something revolutionary
or evolutionary
There will be an EQN open beta before December 31st 2013, and EQN Landmark will be out before then.
Hopefully the right people get in early instead of the usual pro testers that give us the same turds over and over. Maybe we'll get some epic gameplay catered to instead of the most efficient.
"If the Damned gave you a roadmap, then you'd know just where to go"
I got a more precise TLDR for this: "Dont be discerning or have a critical aspect. Just accept any Everquest label on the package and dont mind the ingredients. Go mooooo and open your wallet."
Seriously.. why are you "legion" of frightening fanboys so scared of any post that brings up concerns or negative comparisons with games that have proven to be lesser, not worthy of the Everquest moniker?
Wrong, Everquest is not just the community. I know thats a lovely sentiment that makes your heart flutter with delight while roses burst forth from your morning dookie, but if that were true then EQ2 - that most hilarious embarrassment - would have been a success because it surely inherited that EQ "community".
The MMORPG gamer is a more refined, more experienced, more demanding consumer than ever before. And smart, discerning consumers are very very right to voice their concerns. We know the difference between crass loudmouths and those voicing legitimate concerns. Trying to stifle this with your platitudes is transparent.
There's a huge difference between constructive criticism, and complaining that the cake you got served isn't a pie.
I'm sure you know this, based on your comment, but I'm just putting it out there for the kids that don't. There are some people here that like to spew selfish, mememe based criticism over anything they don't personally like. They call for completely changing the vision the game developers had, not simply offering minor critiques.
You don't like the art style?
You don't like the combat?
You don't like horizontal progression?
You don't like that the game isn't being built completely around a pvp experience?
Go make your own damn game then.
However, if you have something interesting, or relevant to discuss. Slight variations or minor critiques on something, that's fine. That's more than welcome.
Cry baby chest pounding that the devs aren't making the game you dreamed up in your skull is not welcome nor is it productive.
Too soon to tell. After enduring the blizzard of pre-release hype on SWTOR, much of which mirrored exactly the EQN hype ("never before seen!" "innovative!") I will wait and see.
Right now it is unclear what game mechanics will help make this a social game. Right now, it smacks of GW2 - a single player game with chat rooms.

I've never cared about the hate in other game forums, becuase I never cared about those games. But Everquest is not another game. It is Everquest. So it pains me when I see folks giving negative misinformation or just outright hate. I want to show that most of the things they complain about matter little to a fan like me...
I did not get excited for Guild Wars 2... or GW1 for that matter. I am cut from the old cloth - the new games have not had that something I need to have fun. That is community. I need a community for me to have fun. I like hangin out with my in-game friends and just doing whatever. We make our own game. My band of merry makers will blush saltiest wench, and save the blackest of hearts.
Everquest Next is the game for us.
It's NOT EVERQUEST
its EVERQUEST NEXT.
A totally different game. I want to make that clear. This game has nothing to do with EQ1 or EQ2 other than IP.
Guild Wars 2 had nothing to do with Guild Wars 1 other than IP. You can replace the IP elements in both EQN and GW2 and never know it had anything to do with EQ1/2 or for GW2's case, GW1. The IP is the only link between these games, since they are so radically different gameplay wise.
its like calling World of Warcraft the same thing as Warcraft. They have nothing to do with each other other than IP.
TLDR; Everquest Next will be huge. Not everyone is negative. Many of us looking forward to EQN. Join us. We are many.
It is great you have a positive view of EQN, and I will support EQN too, but, please do not use "WE". Not everyone in "WE" is a positive sheep. I will dare to criticize EQN aspects that I believe is not up to standard of today's market. (Notice I use the word "I")
Also, to all the "we", please learn to manage expectation. EQN will be a new game, perhaps good and fun, but EQN is definately not going to "save the world".
Then clearly you are not of the "we" I speak of. And I am not a sheep. Some of us lead the sheep.. a shepherd if you will.
That is why there is this audacious "I" that, while loves the same thing, refuse to join your "we" and dares to challenge your "we", especially the so call "shepherds". Only then MMOs can improve guadually, else all the sheeps will just be high-5ing each other over the same thing.
The possibility of the universe collapsing into a singularity is higher than the birth of a perfect MMORPG.

Truth be told, I wish we could all get along. But I'm not foolish enough to believe I could convince many to let go the hate. Some will not ever let it go... even if EQN was precisely what they envisioned Everquest Next should be... they would find something to complain about as it is their nature.
No, my post is to the middle of the road gamer, the casual gamer.. the kind that perhaps enjoyed WoW for fun's sake and the kind that are maybe thinking about their first MMO. These are ones I post for...

Comments like this are so ridiculous.
SWTOR did bring some new and innovative things to MMOs. The story telling and dialog choices hadn't been done before in an MMO and it was pretty well done. The stories (if you care about star wars) were pretty top notch. Ya, the combat system was a tired trinity based tab target system, sure. The end game was WoW @ 1/100th the content, sure. But it delivered on exactly what they said they would deliver on. It's not like it got hyped up with a list of features and then didn't deliver. It delivered them, as promised. Anyone who loaded up SWTOR and expected something different is simply foolish lol.
GW2 is not a "single player game" by any means. The dynamic event mechanics drive people together in the OW, the PVP is completely team based, tPvP, sPvP and WvWvW pvp. The dungeons are also all 100% group based.
If you're going to post some opinions, at least make some valid points. Just because you didn't like a game doesn't give you the right to post misinformation.
As for EQN, the hype so far is completely reasonable to be delivered on. They have given us a list of features it's going to employ and at this point it's safe to say it's going to deliver on those features. Sure, wether or not you personally like the game is yet to be seen. But it's not like they're saying they're going to offer destructible environments and action combat.... then turn around and deliver unbreakable environments and tab target combat lol.

It's Everquest. This game has to do with EQ1 and EQ2 lore. A Lot. They will have fanservice and that what makes it Everquest.
It's just not Everquest 3. It's a REBOOT. So sorry, you are wrong here.

Right, that's the IP. That's what he's saying.
Just as Warcraft is not the same as WoW outside of IP. It's the same lore, world, name, etc.... but the gameplay itself has nearly nothing in common with each other.
EQN is exactly that, another game with the EQ IP. It's got the similar lore, world, name, etc. But it was never meant to be EQ 1.5 or EQ 2.7. It's a brand new game. It's not even in the same story line. It's just familiar IP, but a lot of the game is completely different.
Which was his point. People who were hoping for Everquest with better graphics set them selves up to be disappointed.

Thing is, there is not any solid information out yet, and already claim legion of fans for EQN hype. Sorry, while I love EQN's concept (except the character art direction) and will follow it, I am intelligent enough to know that EQN is still hype. Landmark and such may be more relevant to the legions if SOE produces a playable demo soon.
The sheep are legion. If they are high-5ing themselves are they not happy?
No, critics of EQN claiming to be legion is not hypocritical, unless you mean they are not legion. I think you mean hypothetical. Which is not true either, see the sheep are legion response.
A realist knows the potential of EQN's hype as being false. You have also stated that you love the concept of EQN, except the character art, that makes you a critic. You can then be placed in the realistic critic category - which is clearly outside of the "WE" I spoke about. Thank you for reinforcing my previous summation of your belonging.
I do agree the release of Landmark will certainly be more relevant to legion - happy sheep's wool and all that.

Glad that you understand where you really stand, and where i belong to. And don't worry, eventually, only the realists will be playing EQN as they are the real players that manage their expectation and really understand what EQN is all about, while the legion is ready for the next hyped up game.

If I stepped on some toes expressing my excitement for EQN I am sorry. I tend to wear my feelings on my sleeve, which is why I don't post very much... I should have learned my lesson by now. I won't say this will be the last post about EQN - but it will be the last one I start as OP for a while.
I really have no interest in EQn other than I'd like to see it be successful because it is Everquest, if by name only.
