    Now this is just pathetic...

I felt a bit sorry for you guys who got hammered by the new direction, but it all sound like crying to me now. They were creating a WoW clone with EQ lore/skin and rallying call... you want them to do just that and have a small population consist of hardcore players so you can relive your memories? Geez...

I think they realized during the development with this voxel cartoony graphic that it looked like WoW 2 so they thought my god what have we done.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

Given SOE's willingness to implement WoW-ification of EQ1 2005+, I would be very hesitant to call whatever they had 2 years ago as good.

It could very well have been essentially WoW meets Norrath, or otherwise just another very disappointing NGE.

Kill stuff, look for the "!"'s or "?"'s to know who to talk to.  Run around and click resource nodes.  Join instanced PVP .. who knows.

But yes, it would be interesting to know what SOE really did have.  Perhaps some of the devs or testers will speak up one day.  If I recall there were quite a few testers who reported not liking the design, which caused SOE to scrap what they had.  The testers might have less loyalty to secrecy over developers?

They originally said that EQN would return to its roots of EQ1.....I think they scrapped it because of the overwhelming success of GW2 and minecraft......Just like they totally revamped EQ2 from a hardcore MMO to a total WoW clone, they did the same thing here, looking to take advantage of what is hot at the time.......Don't ever fool yourself into thinking that SOE is about making great games for their customers, they are not......They are looking out for number 1 and its bottom line.....Obviously stealing ideas from two of the top games wil lachieve that better than trying to remake a game that is over 14 years old.

The only thing they threw out was their marketing plan I would guess.

Any actual details we have, the game is a full on run of the mill themepark.

And if it isn't, it will be once the pro testers get in there. History will repeat itself a million times if you let it. Seems they will be letting it.

More attention and free press and a good overall outlook for SOE in over a decade by simply implying about virtual world type gameplay, and I bet they still chicken out and drop another skinner box on us and lose  or waste any momentum they have with pc gamers.

Wouldn't be a big deal but 99% of gaming cults start on the pc.  If you can please pc gamers, you'll sell 10 million on the console.

Not to mention console gamers think theme parks mmorpgs are lame. They're into virtual worlds:) Flow gaming ftw!! [mod edit]

I'm glad they chose to scrap the design. I loved EQ1/2 but I'm ready for something new. Time to form new memories and nostalga. Just like the devs I was starting to get burned out on the WoW clone format. Say what you will about SOE following treands to make a cash grab but they are putting forth new ideas and systems no one has put together before. It's uncharted territory, they have a lot of courage.

there was also a human male warrior and skeleton on the animation clip - none of it cartoony

the clip looked like a better version of EQ2 for models

    WTF?

Except this is EXTREMELY #&*#ing cartoonie...

    1.) 2-handed great axe held as though a 1-hander

2.) 360° spiked bracer which would be MORE INJURIOUS to the wearer than any foe

3.) Disproportionate upper & lower body

4.) 1 $&#@ty, gaudy 1-arm pauldron which is unreasonably thick

I think for a lot of people it's just sour grapes at this point.  Adapt or move on to another game that suits your style.  Wondering about the "would have's" and "could have's" is energy wasted.

The game isn't out yet, folks.  We've only brushed the skin of what its bulk will be.  It has only been a week since the reveal, and there is probably going to be another full year of development.  Lots can happen, and more is going to be leaked in 10 days at Gamescon and at PAX at the end of the month.

What specifically is cartoony about this?  I mean when have you seen a real orc?

    3. The shot is based on the orc leaning forward.  Objects closer to you in a picture will appear larger.
