Are any of you planning on playing FFXIV? I've purchased the game, or at least made a preorder, and plan to play it..
Just off the top of my head from reviewing the beta, it appears that FFXIV has standard type quests, the trinity, multi-classing, dungeon/raid type content, deep crafting options and has decent graphics and character models... at least IMO.
From an EQN perspective, other than the name and lore.. is the FFXIV game delivering more in line with what some of you have been posting as concerns for EQN? Of course I realize its not EQ - but gameplay wise, it seems closer to EQ than EQN.

I have a friend trying to talk me into trying it. Which I most likely will do..However, my long term sites are still set on EQN. some of ARR. looks like it could be good. However the quest grinding system I have really begun to despise.
I admit.. the grinding is what turned me off from FFXI. Same with Rift and SWTOR to an extent. (Swtor being I would have like to see all the character class stories - but no way in hell was I gonna grind more than one character to see the story of each one)

I will be playing ff arr and will be following eqnext. I suspect im playing for different reasons than alot of site members though.

I currently do not own a pc. After the eqnext reveal I sold off what I had and am waiting for more eqnext info before I buy another pc.

So that brings me to ff arr, thank God for it too, I will be playing it on ps3, its sub, fantasy, trinity, and it will keep me busy till next gen consoles hit. It's absolutely perfect and its coming just in the nic of time.
/
My only gripe is that I wish it was a release title for ps4, because if I get into that deep I am going to keep playing after ps4 release. I hope they support it quickly on the ps4.
/
Be nice to get Eq Next Landmark for ps4 too, but that may be stretching it.
/
Ultimately the best scenario for me is that eq next comes to ps4 and I do not need to buy another pc. Once I got out of wow and got a taste of the pc , f2p p2w culture, and the culture that accepts half finished games, I dont really like the culture in the pc gaming world.
It is almost certain EQN will be on the PS4... Sony game, next gen, 8 buttons. yeah.
I'm a diehard PC gamer, but I don't mind it being on the console.. it will be well done and easy to play/control. And if it grows our community so be it.

Following EQN as more than just a game, but inspiration for a storytelling project, it has killed my interest in every other mmo coming out, except XIV.
As a 1.0 player I have been in the betas for ARR and amazed at how much better it is. Though it will not be in terms of questing and combat as good as EQN, it has a lot of charm and given how I have followed the ups and downs of this game since the the 1.0 beta, I feel I should be there at launch, as my final themepark, ever.
I know that a lot of people here are having trouble letting go of old mmo features that EQN is phasing out, I however see the EQ devs has a very talented bunch of crazy experimenters, and am prepared to let them make the game they want. The trinity is only as dull as the combat, I love it in TERA for e.g. but if there are reasons it won't work in EQN I except that. I've been twittering Georgeson (EQN director) and I am convinced it won't have the same issues as GW2.
One of the reasons Im buying it is because its P2P. Everyone is on equal grounds, no shop. Yoshi the lead dev said he would rather shut it down then go F2P. Its gonna have huge numbers in japan so I see it staying P2P.

Kinda getting sick of CashShops myself, wouldn't it be great if EQN could make all the money from the real money exchange from Landmark items and not need a CS?
I will try ESo also. I am a gamer, and it has to be pretty bad for me to at least not give it a fair shake.

Honestly I have thought about this somewhat since I haven't played a MMORPG since 2009 and I want an interesting experience yet not on a PC...and last few years I have worked selling consoles, accessories, and games. Well I am really interested in what the Playstation 4 can do and FFXIV is on coming out shortly thereafter....had me thinkin. Its so hard to do anime mmo and ive had it with the grind so I am wanting a much more enjoyable, relaxed, casual gamer experience within a constant social atmosphere of real people in real time for a few hours here and there instead of having to constantly do this or that to remain competitive in a competitve atmosphere. Here's hoping I get in a beta test to help with the troubleshooting process of either ESO and/or EQN.
I really think alot of people are between games right now so to speak and the next big thing is neither here nor there anymore as much as where is your adventure, today. So many good games coming out and so many in development and soon to be released.
No, I suspect it would be too grindy for me, though I reckon it sounds like a solid quality game.
I'm rather overdosed on the MMO scene - repeating quests, endless raiding, more and more alts, predictability, same old same old bondage. I'm at a point where grind in real life + grind in gaming = overkill. I'd like a game as grind free and intelligent as possible. I play EQ2 occasionally, and squish in a rare bit of Civilization V every now and then - but for the rest of my time, I focus on family, real life, etc.
Have fun in Final Fantasy.
Playing: Smite, Marvel Heroes

Waiting On: Nothing. Mmorpg's are dead.
I played the beta and pre ordered it but I don't know if I'll be playing it for long. Having PC and ps3 on the same servers is a huge mistake imo. Getting groups with people who can't (take 10 minutes to write a sentence with the on screen keyboard) communicate is a real problem. There's also the problem of controllers just not being as good as a keyboard and mouse for controls in this type of game and I believe not having an option to avoid consollers will be why I quit.
I'm not saying everyone on a console is a baddie or that everyone on PC is good but if there's a good player on a console I'd bet tons of money they'd be even better on PC and allowing players to intentionally gimp themselves isn't really what I'm looking for.
I play most new mmo's. FF XIV will be no exception. I played the first beta, and it was AWFUL. I've read that it's much improved, so I'm optimistic.
I like the class system in this game. I never played FF XI, so having one character who can be every class/job is new to me. I've never been a fan of alts.
ESO doesn't hold much interest to me. If all goes well, I'll be playing FF till EQL atleast.
Wish I knew when/if Archeage was comming out...
I play with a gamepad on pc and I dont feel gimped at all, because the gamepad design is that good. And theres really no big advantage over each other. If you actually try it you would see for your self.
How well do you do in situations that require movement? How do you hold the controller so you can move and attack at the same time?
I know that this has been a major issue for cross platform games in the past, however I think the system in FFXIV: ARR looks like it might actually minimize these issues. Check out this video and see for yourself:

It looks like gamepad players won't be near as gimped as previous generations. This should make for an interesting time in game.
P.S. To the OP: I'm actually more excited about FFXIV:ARR than I am about EQ Next. So, yep, I'll be playing FFXIV.
