Originally posted by tkreep I have a i5 3.4ghz 660 GTX 8 gig ram and still cant play EQ2 without a massive FPS drop on max settings.
The reason for this is that at EQ2's launch they went with the idea that processors would get faster. Instead hardware went in a different manner.. they went multicore. EQ2's engine was built to futureproof on single cores, hence the issue.
The number of cores on your processor means little. The issue is their graphics engine is buggy! Lots of games are on the market like that. Crysis 1 launched like that. The secret world is a good current day example.
I want a game that is entertaining and keeps me playing. Super realistic graphics are nice in some games, but not critical, especially not in MMOs. If I want super realistic graphics I can just go outside.
My guess: he's surprised that she's still alive but, Oh God, those scars! + he has to take dump really badly.

Would agree if the mouth was moving. This is just a smile. They picked an art style and some like it and some dont. Ya like the game or you dont. IMO the art style is fine other then the huge shoulders pads but they fixed that.
Console gamers are even more of a graphic whore even if most of them dont realize that they arent getting the max potential to all the games with realistic graphics. All the popular Playstation and xbox games are the ones with high polygon count, such as mass effect, resident evil, metal gear, demons/dark souls, splinter cell, gears of war, killzone, god of war, dragons dogma, final fantasy, castlevania, Uncharted, The Last of Us and many more.
If they were strictly targeting an mmo to console gamers it would prolly be something with realistic style graphics like The Division and Destiny is doing.
Sure, watched the video and it was awesome. Now do that with a MMO and not a few dozen avatars but with thousands of them. Make SWToR seem cheap. Now add thats to a game with voxels that are blowing up and you have a game that costs a mint and can only run on a handful of systems. You have a winner.
Yes that is true. But stylized graphics can have all kinds of different styles. There was no need to use that distinctive Disney-style. And I'm sure its possible to do stylized graphics without giant shoulder pauldrons.
Yes but there are two things that are hard to distinguish in video gameplay when dealing with RPG's. 1st is emotions. The Disney style (which really isnt just related to Disney animations) lends itself to easily distinguish emotions.
2nd is equipment and distinguishing between different types of armor and overall looks of classes. Pronounced armor, especially in the shoulders and head help in distinguishing different classes and armor. Think of a city skyline. If all cities had 10 story buildings it would not matter how much different the building styles looked for each city. The skyline from a distance would look a like so you could not tell one city from the next from a distance. However, since big cities have huge and pronounced buildings, looking from far away you can easily tell say New York apart from Chicago.
Watch the gameplayer trailer again and make a list of all the emotions you saw on the characters' faces (hint, it's a trick question).
I can tell a seagull from a crow at a distance. I don't think your example is very apt, especially considering two things. The first is that the developers already said you could tell characters by how they carried themselves and held their weapons. The second is that they've already said you're characters will have those inane "appearance tabs", and that there's no limit on multi-classing, so you would see plenty of wizards with Viking helmets and 3 foot tall shoulder pads anyway.
LA Noire looked great but that video looked like one big cutscene. It didn't appear to be a player controlled moment in any of that video so I don't see how that is a good example but it did look great.

Zzzzz. Oh, sorry. The eternal Graphics Thread Du Jour just has that soporific effect.
Wonder how many sales representatives we have amongst us today?

Or they could just remove the lame SOEmote gimmick from that game and save a ton a cash. In the end thats what all this is really about. SOEMote. They HAD to do this type of stylized graphics to support that lame ass feature. Without SOEMote, we would be looking at a whole different EQN.

This is full of win right here
