Revenues grew on the back of historical high L1 and stable GW2 OP also increased reflecting solid revenues and limited increase in expenses
I prefer the actual numbers, which are down 20% from last quarter... Also operating profits while important, aren't nearly as telling as sales.... Operating profit could be increased for example, by the initial wave of release players quitting, so anet being able to layoff CSR staff because they are only supporting a fraction of the initial customers. That is an example of a way you can increase your operating profit, by lowering operating cost.
Ok, so you just got done calling someone out for trying to "twist the numbers" when all they did was quote something from the exact earnings statement document you linked; then you casually shrug off that quote, which went against your agenda, and presented a completely fictitious hypothetical in order to speculate as to why we should be wary of a particular number that you didn't want to be right, again presumably because it went against your agenda.
So who's twisting exactly? You're not just following the numbers; you're bending them to your desired conclusion more than anyone else in here. It's so obvious that frankly you'd have to be oblivious yourself to think that nobody notices.
Actually numbers do lie, devs are famous for moving numbers around to different quarters.
What i don't understand is how they can do it because it would be a form of misleading and lying to escape on bonus clauses and mislead the investors and stocks.I guess there si a big difference from what the press gets and what the real people inside know.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Hum ?? They were saying free to play was the future ?? Why people leave ?? Huh ?? arenanet ?? They were saying more and more player would come play the game in one interview ( I'm looking at YouTube for link ) .
Well , I'm waiting for my PAY TO PLAY ff14 to release in a few days but I'm quite happy to see one another bad free to play game starting to fail ... I'm hating free to play games they are the reason that was so damn hard to find something not total crap or crazy pay to win....
1) Guild Wars 2 isn't free to play. It's buy to play. Get your facts straight before you visit another game's forum and start flaming it - because your statements only make you look mentally inept as is.
2) Final Fantasy XIV already set a record for one of the most spectacularly embarassing MMO failures in history on its first launch. I wish them luck on their second attempt, but Square hasn't been a good developer for a long time.
3) Enjoy paying a subscription fee for no extra service, and then buying expansion packs for content that should have been covered by the subscription fee. I'll enjoy receiving every update for the price I paid for the box, with the option of paying more money IF I feel like it and IF I feel the developers deserve it - as a sub player, you don't have that choice, but I do, and I enjoy it.

Oh my... You really don't know anything about how things work for Guild Wars do you? Do you think that Guild Wars 1 sold exactly the same number of boxes over and over again for years? And you know Guild Wars 1 didn't even got a proper cash shop. Ncsoft didn't expect that Guild Wars 2 always making them more money with just box sales. Guild Wars 2 is a game that make money with expansion packs... And Ncsoft didn't release the first expansion pack yet. They are planing to make money with this way. They always do.
Ncsoft isn't a company that can't think about this simple stuffs that you did. They are making money with this way like over 8 years...
First they will release Guild Wars 2 in China in 2013. With that they will get a lot of sales.
And second they will probably release the first expansion pack in 2014. With that they will go on making money.
Some people in this forum really only think and want that Guild Wars 2 should be burning in hell, turning ashes and crashed by a troll or whatever...

Even though GW2 is only game of a very large portfolio, a mediocre company report clearly means the end is near for GW2!!!!
Seariusly wtf is that post. Can someone really explain me this. I'm talkin about people like exactly this person... That's just pathetic.
And what's not looking good here? The sales decreased? Ho wow big deal... I bet you can show us many MMO where the same thing didn't happen? Exactly.
Like Nadia quoted from your own source : "Revenues grew on the back of historical high L1 and stable GW2" So yeah sale decreased, but GW2 and L1 are providing the most revenues, so you don't even understand anything of what's in this earning call, you're the one who trying to spin numbers around.
So I'm not sure what you trying to accomplish here other than trying to make the game look bad and fail at it.

I am surprised, I wasn't expecting it to still be doing this well. 20% fall after a year for a game that is B2P and not P2P, relying on a non-invasive cash shop? That seems pretty outstanding to me. Just consider the turn over of other MMOs released in the past 8 years. With their business model a 20% drop after a year is far over-reaching my expectations for this game. I thought it would be deserted by now like most of the other MMOs recently released. If anything I thought it would be worse than other recently released games because the expectations for it were insane. Yet people are continuing to support it. Good for them.
P.S. You can look at my post history and see that I am not a fanboy or whatever they are being referred to as these days. I have no love for Guild Wars 2. I am genuinely surprised and happy for them. I may not like the game but it's clear that a lot of people disagree with me.

Look, i don't even play the game anymore, but a lot of people do and all you are doing with your facts is baiting. Your tone is wrong. You cannot simply approach this from a neutral direction? As soon as anyone replies to you, you just state "20%". What's the point? No one here that enjoys the game cares one whit about your facts. If they are enjoying the game, then no manner of "facts" or excel spreadsheets you present will deter them, which is what this is really all about isn't it? Your act is tired and no one cares. People only say "Im playing and enjoying the game so I dont care one whit about your 'facts'" when the facts are bad.
Nothing really new though, when it come to something people like news doesnt matter when its bad but its the most important thing in the world when its good.

Are you saying that WoW has always rised in proftis? it peaked after a couple of years and expansions.
Actually, I'd be more surprised if the numbers kept going up. The income is a reflection of the payment model. I myself pre-purchased the game so you can Imagine how long I've been a "subscriber", but not once have I bought gems with cash, so ANet has never seen additional income from me just yet. I know 5 more who do the same as me, so I can imagine a rather large portion of the population also don't buy from the trading post at all.

1- guild war 2 kinda free to play , aka no montly payments , but yes that b2p a form of free to play
2- final fantasy 14 was one of the worst mmorpg ever I have played , horrible , but they changed the dev , the team , and played since 2 betas , that's my favorite game now , square Enix are a really good team too , one of the few who release good RPG and quality game .... Not sure what you talk about here .
To name a few games : kingdom heart , final fantasy series.... Dragon quest .... The new PC tomb raider .... Sleeping dogs
Honestly I'm saying what you have said to me for the point one : Get your facts straight before you visit another game's forum and start flaming it - because your statements only make you look mentally inept as is.
3- you pay a subscription fee and you get everything the game has to offer , in gw2 , that's fun get 2 bags in gw2 , pay for unlocking more ?? ?? Small bank , pay for getting more space ?? Find an amazing chess but can't open it ?? In pay to play you get everything and everyone got 100 % of the game , with a sub you only pay less that 20 bucks , kinda cheap .
You get every update but that all small updates and new creative way for making you pay cash , or world event ... That really update lol ?? And you can be sure if guild war 2 does a real ''UPDATE'' you will pay a box game like any other game...
But I understand some people don't understand that p2p actually the best way to play the PC game , free to play player they are the people who see hot dog for 2 $ but later know they need to pay for the combo , drink and tax and end up paying 6 $ for the meal.... But they say nothing probably , because they don't think ''to much''
Well you never played GW2 then hahaha you get 5 bag slots not 2 you can get everything from playing the game including bank slots and bag slots or you can spend cash to get it faster and it really is not hard to earn enough gold to get diamonds to get those things. As for pay to play yeah you do get everything for the monthly fee untill they come out with and payed expansion then you pay $30 to $50 dollars extra not all games have free content in p2p games only one I knew of for a long time was EvE and Lineage 2 now I know alot more have but even FFXI had payed content in expansions.

2.) GW2 Banks have special tabs for collectibles, and with recent patches more item types can be stored outside the base bank slots. Feel free to count the total number of slots a character has in his bank. (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Account_vault)
4.) In pay to play you still get the astronomically low drop rate for rare items. There's no difference in this regard. Mystic and Black Lion chest contents are random anyway. I've never been enough of a fool to buy a key to unlock them.
5.) As far as I can tell I can experience 100% of the game. The only thing I might be missing out on are the unique skins from the trade post. That doesn't me hurt one bit.
6.) The comment about the updates is done to death. In the end it'll boil down to "I don't like the update". I have been enjoying the updates without ever spending a dime.
On a final note, stop looking down on people who prefer F2P/B2P over P2P. You don't know any better, alright? I don't want to do the "you're just being scammed over subs" dance right here.

Non-invasive cash shop ?
Every single Living World event is built around new cash shop content.
Every single e-mail I get from ANet about GW2 is "Look what is new in the cash shop ! oh yea, there is some other stuff too ... look at the new cash shop stuff though!"
Little forum boys with their polished cyber toys: whine whine, boo-hoo, talk talk.
Oh goodness me, the sales have shockingly dropped for GW2 during the Spring and Summer quarter of the year. When everybody is at the beach and being active in the warm weather. This is just a shocking development, hold on while I contact all my friends and let them know this shocking news!
OP, Why do you think not many big titles release during the 2Q of a year? Well don't hurt yourself, I'll tell you, it's because EVERYBODY IS OUTSIDE! Seriously, this is a simple concept, warm weather brings a decrease in gamers playing games, as well as game sales (except for the oh so awesome steam summer sale).
"not looking good for gw2" because there is a routine drop in sales during warm months? I bet you have been watching those numbers every single Q just waiting for a drop in sales so you can make this thread.
These numbers don't really mean much without a break down of pure cash shop revenue.
Because the number is including sale of copies for a buy to play game it's hard to accurately tell how we'll the game is going from these Figures.
Sale of actual copies is of course going to fall consistently from release until an expansion is released, what would be a better judge of success at this point would be a comparison of CS earnings on a quarterly basis.
if they are roughly the same then they haven't really lost current players so the game is doing fine, if they are falling in CS revenue as well then it's time to start getting worried. Without these numbers it's pretty hard to tell using the total revenue figures only 12 months from release.
i don't even play the game anymore so I'm not trying to say its a glorious success im just saying that a 20% decrease in revenue doesn't in this case guarantee the game is dying.
Played: Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2, EVE Online, WoW, Vanguard, EQ2, STO, SWTOR, WAR, Lotro, Planetside 2, Rift, Vindictus, DCUO, Global Agenda and others .
20% drop is sales within a quarter not even one year to launch is not a good sign no matter how people try to spin it. If it goes down again another 20% next quarter and another 20% the next, it might be time for GW2 to look into the F2P model to bring in more players.
Because at the end of the day, ANet doesn't keep all the money they make. NCSoft takes most of it, and the less players there are the worst it becomes and it creates a snowball effect. People keep brining in GW2's payment model, that argument was valid 10 years ago, but in today's market most MMOs are F2P so it isn't valid anymore. B2P has more barrier to entry than F2P.

1.) You get more than 2 bag slots...5 to be exact. Your starter bag holds 20 slots. (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Inventory)

3.) There's even a separate storage for PvP gears (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pvp_locker). I personally wish there's a same storage for PvE armor sets though.
4.) In pay to play you still get the astronomically low drop rate for rare items. There's no difference in this regard. Mystic and Black Lion chest contents are random anyway. I've never been enough of a fool to buy a key to unlock them.

~The only opinion that matters is your own.Everything else is just advice,~
