There's so much chatter going on everywhere in terms of pre-order early access, codes not working, registrations, betas and random news about FFXIV, I'm a little confused. I'm wondering when the earliest I will be able to play the game and level what will be my permanent main character, and I can't really find a definitive answer. I deliberately held back from beta so I could start bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and noob-like with the character I'm going to play for good and learn the ropes with. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
- I'm a non-legacy, non-beta player
- Pre-ordered digitally, have pre-order code
- Haven't registered for a beta
- I think I can register/start playing open beta (on a character that I can take into launch) on the 17th, then enter my pre-order code on the 20th, and essentially play until launch (then play for years to come). Is this remotely correct?
Thanks!
As a sidenote, I've been around mmorpg.com for over a decade now (I typed in the url to see what was there), and just want to say that the FFXIV board here is probably the least stressful/least abrasive/most constructive group I've lurked creepily around in that time. I've never been big on posting because I've always felt like someone is going to jump down my throat. I really hope you folks are indicative of the community Final Fantasy XIV:ARR will have.

Yup!

I thought open beta started on the 17th (16th for beta testers) and ran until the 20th. Then pre-orders get early access on the 24th, until launch on the 27th.
What's this enter code on the 20th and play until launch stuff? Or am I mistaken?
yada yada yada yada.....*skims*
Yes, correct....
lol give it one week. One week for all the non beta testers like yourself to flood this forum with complaints, whining, flaming, and arguing, and the ones who have been following along raging right back along the lines of "WHAT DID YOU EXPECT"
Bet money on it. Welcome anyways, hope you have a great time here.
The Deep Web is sca-ry.
If you played previous betas you can start OB on the 16 if not you start OB on the 17 after registering. IF you pre oredered the game you get early acces on the 24, others that didn't preorder start on the 27.
I assume the OP knows OB is only a couple days so the game will be down the 19th till 24 for maintenance. Any progress made or characters made during OB will still be there when early acces/live starts, UNLESS there is somekind of serious exploit/bug and a wipe is needed. Which isn'y very likely.
The enter code thing is those that pre ordered have a code to enter for early access and the other goodies they get depending on which edition they pre ordered.
I hope this makes things clearer!

Reply to underlined part: hahaha you are probably right BUT, I think it will be a toned down version of what you just wrote if you compare it to the insanity on forums that has occurred in other games. I've read mmorpg.com forums a ton in the past, and previous MMO "pre" launch threads tend to be utter flame wars. This games' threads have been polite. So we might see an uptick in threads like you've stated, but it'll be like a discussion in a library compared to what we see in the F2P & B2P forums post launch haha.
I think most of those flamers are too busy bitching about EQnext, GW2, ESO, and Wildstar to make much of a fuss about this game.
This game is going to kick ass since it has the holy trinity which makes it instantly more successful than GW2 and EQnext
Well, I certainly can't and won't speak for anyone but myself, but I know I'm not the complaining type. I've spent enough of my adult life playing MMOs to know that expecting my mind to be blown will only lead to disappointment. The older I get, the less fancy things I need to have fun (admittedly not all that blown away by the EQN reveal).
Then again, I started with MUDs, so just the fact there is an actual graphical interface makes any modern MMO inherently more exciting. :P
In any case, thanks for the response. It's appreciated.
