in Final Fantasy XIV

Has there been any information regarding more companions being introduced to the game eventually besides the chocobo?

I think it would be awesome to be able to chose different companions to be able to fight with you kind of like Neverwinters system.

    All we know about so far is the Chocobo, but I can't imagine that there wouldn't be more at some point.

    I seem to recall talk about  NPC companions. I can't recall if it was about plans to eventually introduce them or they were saying they wouldn't have them.

    I'm pretty sure that turned out to be the chocobos.

    Must of been the path companions I was thinking of that they said wouldn't return.
