As I was leveling up my Gladiator to 20 during Phase 4, there were several times where I was granted additional stat points. Being a tank character I obviously mainly put them into Strength and Vitality. My question is: are these additional stats only for this class and if on the same character I decide to level up a healer or ranged dps, will they use these same stat points or do they get their own to assign at the appropriate levels?

For that class only
Yes, they are only for your class. If you change from your Gladiator to, say, a Conjurer, your stats will be reset and as you level you will get new attribute points. Once you change back to Gladiator, you'll have the points you used on Gladiator once again already assigned.
The only issue people will have is when classes branch into two different jobs. Take, for example, Arcanist. It splits into Summoner (DPS) and Scholar (Healer). As an arcanist levels up and gets attribute points, they'll want to put points into INT if they are going Summoner, or into MND if they are going Scholar.
I take it that when a class splits like that you can only take one job and never have the other?
Jobs are for group play yes? So arcanist would still be available for solo play after taking the job?
I haven't seen a manual yet so sorry for the noob questions.
Pretty sure you can get both.
You can play classes and jobs whenever you want. It isn't like other games where you level up a fighter than switch to warrior or beserker or something.
You obtain jobs by doing a quest once you meet prerequisites. Should be able to meet requirements for summoner, do quest and get that job, then meet requirements for scholar, do that quest and get summoner also.
If you want to be level 50 in everything, you can.
You can also play jobs like scholar and paladin while solo, and classes like lancer and conjurer for groups. It isn't some hard coded restriction.
job system imo is so retarded. should have simply been how ffxi was and yoou do a quest to unlocked the 'advanced class' and have it start at lvl 1. the game is already stupid easy to level up, there was no need to lessen the burden on us simply due to the game having so many classes.
if the game's cap is lvl 50, and people were getting lvl 20 in less than 5 hours through chaining mobs/fates and doing story quest just to keep up with their level, i mean come on >_>

As the poster above me mentioned, you are able to get both jobs. You become a "job" just by equipping what is called a "Soul Crystal" (after you receive it from your quest-line). By unequipping the soul crystal, you become just the regular class again. You are then free to equip another soul crystal that is compatible with your class.
As suggested, jobs are for group play as they fine-tune your character towards a certain role. Being a job, you are only able to use abilities from the two classes that were used to make your job. For instance, Paladin requires Gladiator and White Mage. Thus, you can only use skills from Gladiator and White Mage while you are a Paladin. Although you gain additional Paladin-only skills, as well.
As a class, you are able to cross-class all abilities that are available to your class. For example, as Gladiator I can equip certain skills from Lancer, Marauder, etc.
i don't quite understand the time restriction to stat reset is for(unless that time restriction is tied into how long it takes you to get enough GC seals)
i mean even then...i only really see people stat resetting just once in the life of their classes/job not including major patches that nerf/buff certain aspects of a class.
