Well I really do hope they avoid the P2W approach. Nothing will make me quit a MMO faster than seeing it's a bank account war. Nothing more pathetic than seeing a guy spend 400 dollars a month on a game just to stay 1 step ahead of the guy who "only" spends 200 dollars a month.

Winning is a subjective term.  The industry seems to be steering towards only making PVP non-P2W, then calling the entire system Not P2W!

To me, pay-to-skip, pay-to-unlock content is also P2W.  Defenders in any game always point out that freeloaders can still get the same unlocks although they have to work for them.  In an RPG I find this boggling that PVE content can be finished or achieved with real money, even if the end result can be made comparable to other players (which is often the case in MMORPG's).

Paying to skip content I think undermines the efforts from actual RPG'ers, so unless they say cosmetic only with an actual fulfillment of this promise, I think it would still be P2W, at least to me, in some way or another.  Aion has the best model I've ever seen, which companies should really take note of.

What recent MMO that was actually made well has been obviously pay to win? People throw that term around a lot but I almost never see it.

This. All of SOE's other games are exactly this. Pay to fast travel, upgrade instantly, craft faster, skill up faster, exp poitions, mounts. I'd also consider this pay to win especially early on when to be competitive you'll have to chug pots and buy mounts just to keep up with the other people. The worst part about all this means youll have little "SC" icons everywhere on your UI constantly reminding you that you are playing in a cash shop game. Immersion dead.

lol, I am feeling generous, and will give some food to the hungry troll:

So, why exactly do you hope it ends up pay 2 win? Do you dislike SOE? Do you dislike Innovation? Did a EQ developer touch you in an unwanted manner? Or, more likely: Do you like to see catastrophies, regardless of the casualties? You were probably jumping for joy when you thought FFXIV was going to crash and burn to huh?

Ok, that's enough food for you, don't want you to get fat.

Why would I hope for the failure Final Fantasy? I Pre-Ordered the reboot.  I prefer P2P games... but I also enjoy going to free to play games, dropping some cash, and utterly destroying unemployed people as well.  It's adorable to watch them cry.

LOL, you are a twisted and evul person.

Only one I heard of that had any substance to it was PS2 but I never played that so can't comment.

I really dislike P2W games because it gives an unfair advantage, even if it unlocks a weapon everyone can get faster its still paying to win. Cosmetic items only would be fine with a cash shop, but I personally hate any cash shops and rather stick to the monthly sub.

For instance PS2 is in fact pay to win because you can get better stuff faster than everyone else.

I have played most of SOEs other games, and this is completely bull feces. You subscribe, and you immediately remove all little "reminders", which are actually there to tell you that you are playing a subscription game for free.

I have never seen "pay to fast travel", or "craft faster", or "skill up faster". I have seen FLUFF mounts that have the same stats as mounts already available in game, and the only thing that you can say something about, are EXP potions... but since to me, games like EQ2 are more about the journey than the destination, I find them counter productive.

SOE games are subscription games with a Free to Play Demo that has restrictions that are immediately lifted the moment you become a subscriber.

I have full faith in the outcome of EQN based on my experiences with Planetside 2.

An extremely fair cash shop with options ranging from fluff to weapons.

Play with a sub for free station cash for the shop and a "little" faster xp gain or play free with basically no restrictions.

I play with a common shotgun you can unlock after a few hours of play and pwn face constantly.

Good new indeed, I think it will be interesting to see what people make in player studio

One can only hope. P2W is exceptionally broad and its definition seems to shift every week, so it's an easy hole to fall into, willingly or not.

Still though, I like a lot of things going on with EQN and if all goes well, I think I'll have it replace GW2 as my secondary MMO to go with ESO.

The destructible environment scares me though . . . I have a bad history with cliffs, holes, and the likes. God, save me from myself. image

You know what's fun about chaos? I do, but I won't tell.
