    3)  Getting a Microsoft employee discount price, or

    4)  Not knowing any better.

Among people who will actually buy the Xbox One, I'd expect the usual justification to be (4).

The PlayStation 4 gives you far superior hardware for a much lower price tag.  Microsoft's backing off of some other anti-user policies may close the gap with Sony in those areas, but they haven't done anything to address the fact that they're charging far more for far inferior hardware.

If Microsoft could only attain rough parity with Sony in a generation when they made far more sensible hardware choices (Cell in the PS3 was a very, very bad idea), I can't imagine that having the hardware situation reversed will end better for them.

With the Xbox One, I'd worry about whether Microsoft is able to sell enough of them to get game developers to overwhelmingly be eager to develop for it, rather than many major games ignoring it for lack of market share, even without Sony buying them off somehow.  See, for example, Windows RT.

Far superior hardware? WTF are you talking about? LOL

Then again, this is the guy who said Oculus Rift can't work due to blah blah blah and then John Frickin Carmack joins their team and developers start expressing interest in it.... oh boy. If you had any idea what the specs were then maybe you'd say the same thing that other big developers have been stating... they are almost the exact same.

*edit and to beat you too the punch, the DDR5 ram won't make a noticeable difference in gameplay at all. The only thing that is going to make a difference is Microsoft has admitted 3GB fo ram will be reserved for the OS. With that said, you, nor anyone else really knows how Sony is going to utilize theirs. I am still smiling that you said Sony's hardware was far superior though HAhAhahAhAhahah.

It not far superior, but still superior to that of Xbox One through raw power PS4's GPU has 1152 shaders and does 1.84TeraFlops/s,  whereas Xbox One has a 853 MHz AMD Radeon GPU w/ 768 shaders and does 1.31 Tera/Flops/s. But, I think they will both perform close to each other performance wise.

My choice for choosing a PS4 over the Xbox One is that it has a removable hard drive, this is important to me because I want to backup all my downloaded games through PS plus. And I like the controller better than the Xbox One's. The DRM stuff Xbox One had didn't bother me one bit, I actually liked it (have over 500 games on steam, it's the same thing basically).

Now post like this I can respect. No fanboy statements just real reasons why he likes PS4.

I've had a PS4 pre-ordered since E3.  I had considered getting an Xbox for first time as I have a few friends that have gone that route in the past.  E3 pretty much reminded me why I have favoured Sony over Microsoft (even with hack), FMS!

With Xbox ONE you can use external USB HDDs, which will be more easily done. Removing a HDD from a console is more likely to error, as the  internal HDDs are not intended to be constantly swapped compared to USB.

It offers the same thing the PS4 offers which are games and also offers new innovations like Kinect, Smartglass and Cloud Computing. What new innovations does the PS4 offer? Sony's 'innovation' if you will is that its trying to cater to the video game player.

Why I say this is an innovation is because the majority of big name companies are in it for the money, hell even indie developers are into making a quick buck out of gamers.

Xbox One is trying to be something it will never be, and all inclusive tv box.  Hence the name Xbox 'One' trying to imply in its name its the only tv box you will ever need.  Not to mention MS has monthly chargers for just about every feature on the Xbox One.  While PS4 has PS+ that also gives you 'free' games.

At current there is no innovation in the console market.  There probably never will be.  Its too expensive and too much of a risk at this point in the corporate video game entertainment world.  We are no longer in an age where innovation brings large quantities of customers.  Familiarity and extra features, and simplicity is whats bring in the most customers.  Hence why more people are looking towards the PS4.  Not to mention the Xbox One reveal was terrible.  Why would you support a company that wanted to screw you over?

I pre ordered a ps4 I will probably sell it on ebay and get a next gen pc when I double my money from selling the ps4. Not the right titles are available yet for me to have a ps4. Microsoft is thumbs down so I wouldn't even consider it. If Ps4 would have launched with WoW and Eq Next then I would have kept the ps4.
  • JustARandomPandaJustARandomPanda Member Posts: 61

I went 360 very late in the current gen's cycle but if I had to do it over again I would have gone PS3 instead. 360 has virtually no jrpgs except from early in 360's lifespan. That genre is pretty much dead on future MS consoles imo from here on out since most MS console owners don't like jrpgs. The kind of games that dominate MS's game sales are not really the kind of games I prefer. MS is great if you're a huge shooter or sports fan but don't want to play those genres on a PC (and many don't).

For those few XBoxOne games I'd want (Project Spark, possibly Titan Fall though iffy, a few others) - well...all the ones announced that I want are also coming to the PC and I'd rather play them there (Titan Fall on PC will likely end up having community made mods the console versions will never see for example). The PC community tends to foster some amazing fan-made mods - often for free. You don't get to see that kind of thing on either console really. And now with Steam's Big Picture output to hdtv's and support for gamepads for many Steam-purchased games it's starting to shrink the gap between what a PC gamer plays and what a console gamer plays. Unfortunately very few console gamers know about Steam Big Picture or the gamepad support.

The thing that interests me is the possibility of an entire new strata of 'core-gamers' that may evolve over the next 10 years. We currently now have the core primarily-PC gamers, the core-primarily-console gamers and the (much much smaller but still there) core-primarily-handheld gamers. I think in the next 10 years there will develop a strata that will be the core-'primarily-tablet/smartphone' gamers. As in..that will be their preferred (habitual) go-to platform for 'core hardcore' gaming. I don't think anyone will sit down and say to themself..."hey...I think I wanna be a core tablet gamer." I think it's just that over time that's what will evolve in their day to day living/gaming lifestyle habits. That doesn't mean they won't play other formats. But it will be a gamer-strata that just sorta ends up playing a preponderance of their preferred games on a tablet (or smartphone). And then there's the Dark Horse Oculus Rift. Dunno how that will play out.

The above was off-topic but one I've been interested in to see if it happens this next gen. Because if it does it will steal a good chunk of publisher/dev money from the other 3 platforms to be invested into the "new kid formats on the block" for blockbuster IPs.

To get to what this thread was about:

I wish I had the room to have both upcoming consoles. Unfortunately I only have room for one and since I like jrpgs and since exceedingly few jrpgs ever get translated and ported to PCs that means I'll be getting a PS4 (and Vita).

    PS4.

Why? Is SONY. Starting with PS1, they were always with gamers no matter what, while Microsoft just want to milk every cent they can get from gamers ( replay that E3 event ) . Basically ,all they told us at E3 was : you need to pay for this, and for that ... oh yes, that too please. Wait, there is more, pay more. Oh, and this too - sorry we forgot about that .

But I agree, they gathered the masses ( kids mostly ) starting with Xbox 360. All their successful games were shooters and sports related, while SONY is more with RPG ( my favorite ) - Action games.

Microsoft BEST advantage is ...marketing. They really know how to do it. They have a VERY aggressive marketing. They invest a lot in it, and they also makes a lot of money.

Like Red-Bull . Red-Bull invest around 40% from their revenue in marketing and I think is the biggest % from all the big companies which invest in marketing like crazy.

    Playstation 4 hands down, why?

    Quality.
I've had my ps3 for four years now and 0 problems.
good graphics, controllers that fit in your hand, Netflix, free access to the playstation network to download demos, movies, games.
My personal favorite is the fishtank live screen, after a hectic day dealing with others, it's actually nice to sit back with a drink and unwind for a bit looking at a virtual 60 inch fishtank.
On the other hand my brother just had to be different, got a xbox 360 two months ago, and has allready had to send it in for warranty once. Poor guy.

over 20 years of mmorpg's and counting...

I dont get the point in buying a console. You can do everything on PC too, you want to play with a contoller ? Just buy one, you want to play on your big TV ? Get a HDMI cable, there really is no point in consoles. Oh and also games are even cheaper on PC.

And for upgrading, if you upgrade a PC at the time a console comes out it will last as long as the console since you have anyways graphic options in games unlike on consoles.

So tell me whats the point in consoles ? There are just only a few titles that are exclusiv for consoles but thats it. With a PC you can do even MUCH more, consoles are so limited. And If you build a PC on your own or just upgrade to new stuff its not that expensive.

I can understand maybe someone buying a console if he doesnt have a PC or doesnt want one. But having a PC and then getting a console,  nonsense really.

Why do we keep getting post like this? How can you do everything on PC too? So you telling me you can play God Of War, Halo, Forza Motorsport, Uncharted, Grand Turismo, Infamous, Heavy Rain, Killer Instinct, Dead Rising 3, Ryse, Knack and Killzone on PC? Console gameers can do that and all for the price of $100-$500. That's why people buy consoles.

You still need an XBox Live Gold account to do things like watch Netflix or Youtube on the XB1. Ditto for recording your game sessions. PS4 offers more, for less money.

Sony got hacked a few years ago and they let themselves get hacked again now:

    http://www.shopto.net/news/43850/GTA-V-PSN-Pre-Order-hacked--Soundtrack-leaked-Sony-apologises

You pay for what you get, and obviously Sonys security is lacking still

If you want the most out of the consoles then you will want either of the subscription services. No one will buy a Xbox ONE just to watch Netflix. The MAIN attraction is the games, and the online services, which both console have subscriptions for.

The best thing to do is wait a yaer or so and see which console does do the best overall. For me the Xbox ONE has more games I like, and if I were to get a PS4 because it is cheaper and more powerful then I will end up getting 2nd best, and not able to play the 10 exclusives I like the look of (there are more than 10 exclusives but I like 10 of them) whereas PS4 only has 1 I like.

I will be getting neither in November.

If the history of Consoles is to be repeated. Than both the Xbox and the ps4 are going to have console breaking, Red Ring of Death-ing issues of some sort with their first gen of new systems. I will be waiting till November of next year.

By then enough time will have pasted  to see how many new consoles break, and if they truly got fixed yet, if M$ reneges on their DRM. (Not that they will but I don't put it past anyone to try to weasel their control ideas into a world some how.) I will see if that PS4 streaming ps3 games thing looks and works out.  I will have a larger catalog of games, and lastly Holiday bundles.

Not trying to piss on anyone getting a new system. That is just my way of approaching new consoles.

Looking at this list they both have 21 exclusives but Xbox ONE has 6 exclsuives that are on other platforms whereas PS4 has 12 titles that are on other platforms. eg DCUO, FF XIV,Planetside 2 are also on PC

The facts do not lie, but people seem to be ignoring what Xbox ONE has, and follow the sheep, I mean numbers!, and so do you if you think the PS4 has more available titles. I am looking at the games not the tech. The PS4 looks like it will turn out like SWTOR - people get hyped by it and then realise it is not performing as expected and then bail and go back to PC / last gen or choose Xbox ONE.

The only way to tell which one wiill be better is to wait a year after release.

Does anyone know why Microsoft lied to us in E3?

They said they will have November release in 21 markets now only 13 markets.

Before knowing this i went to pre order Xbone. Eb games told me that they arent doing pre-orders cause Microsoft said to stop pre-orders.

    So i pre-ordered PS4 instead.

If we are talking about exclusives for a system. How many Exclusives did Microsoft release this year for the xbox 360?

So i was really thinking of this . If Exclusives for a system are so important isn't it good to have a running new exclusives running after release not just line up release dates?

Sony got new exclusives this year for the ps3 systems.

I bought the camera with the PS4 as well so i can do all that voice activation and stuff. (of course not sure if it will have it either)

but the option will be there.

It still cost me less money for the PS4 and camera then the xbone + kinetic (which you have to have it plugged in to run xbone)

    Exclusives aren't really important.

Price for the same thing is alittle cheaper.

Oh and with Gaikai you can play some PS3 games. Good luck on continuing your nice large library of game for the 360 .

Destiny and (Probably) EQN are the only exclusive titles I really need. Not to mention the possibility for a new Uncharted game. The Blu Ray player is a nice perk as well.

XB One does not really have many titles that interest me, but that is a matter of preference and has no bearing on which system is better.

PS4 is a better machine with higher potential for a smaller price tag.

    Yah as i posted before that i pre-ordered PS4.

The DRM thing i have to agree with superniceguy.

If one starts up the DRM The other might as well. Then everyone will be stuck with the DRM .

That is something to consider too.

PS4 and XB One can use their own DRM.

Not going to comment on everything you've said, just the above only.

Is exactly what happened to PS3. They released a console far better then Xbox 360 , but the technology for creating games on PS3, gave developers headache. They needed to change all their equipment in order to "get out the best" of PS3, but most didn't do that because of  poor release sales of PS3 and they were not sure that they will get back the investment.

But this time, it seems they did it right. They (almost) did what they did with PS2, but time will tell, as you said.

Yes, I am a fan of SONY and I hope they will be number 1 again with PS4. They deserve it. As I previously said, they are for gamers, while Microsoft are more for multimedia, sport and shooter games. This is not for me however.

It was the intention for MS to release in more countries, but there was more preorders than expected.

Sony is in similar predicament too, but instead of not launching in EU as they did with the PS3 for a few months later, they have put a preorder by date of Aug 6th. If you preorder after Aug 6th there is no guarantee to get the console on launch. If you preorder after Aug, you may not get one until 2014.

Microsfts way ensure everyone gets a console on launch day.

Neither lie, it is how they are managing the HUGE preorders.

Kinect is not required to be plugged in now

You will not be able to play PS3 games from the get go, it is a service coming in later. If it comes later, Sony are rather prone for not coming through with the goods. eg PS2 did not get HDD in Europe.  The HDD would have advanced the PS2 considerably if they launched it, but trying to get old games to play on a new console is not high priority. Xbox 360 started to get Xbox games to play, but then got shelved as there was not enough demand.

No way in hell I will give Microsoft another dime until they remove their CEO and get their crap together.

They are focusing on Mobile, we will never see another Windows OS that is not a hybrid and they are planning on ending Windows for the PC in the future. while I don't use windows on my PC, it is royally going to FUBAR the market and may very well kill the PC if they abandon it. This also means they will stop making DirectX BTW my fellow gamers.

As for the Xbone One. No way. They "Say" they removed the authentication once a day option but its MEANINGLESS. Xbox One games are going to be CLOUD BASED.

Oh, you can "have the disc" so what, it needs to be installed on the system and parts of the game are on the cloud.

Oh, they "say" they are allowing you to "own" the game so you can "sell" it...but they are keeping the individual agreements meaning one company can have an agreement stating that you are LEASING the game and cannot sell it unless authorized. Not to mention the fact that the system is a complete power hog AND on top of it, sure you can have the Kinect turned off...but Microsoft got patents for DRM datacollection to monitor your viewing habits, how many people are viewing and even set up a "reward" system if you watch specific programs. Eff this big brother crap, I want a VIDEO GAME SYSTEM that plays VIDEO GAMES and any company that messes with that, to bring an "ENTERTAINMENT" system filled with useless crap that takes privacy and ownership rights away shouldn't be supported by anyone.
