Hyped about FFXIV: ARR release or just another MMORPG?

Syno23Syno23 Member UncommonPosts: 1,360

Yes there was the version 1.0 and everyone was like, MEH I'll try it out and quit if I don't like it. But second time around, we've been thru the beta, we've seen the gameplay, we've tested the game out. And now it's time for launch. Are you as hyped about this game as your first MMO or a special MMO? The launch of SW:TOR, Aion, Warhammer, or perhaps WoW if you're that old. Jk JK. WoW is still younger than FFXI.

I would say that I was HYPED the f**k out when Guild Wars 2 and Warhammer Online came out, but this game. I'm like, MEH, I'll try it, I might have fun I might not. Who knows. I'm not sitting at the edge of my chair WAITING for this game to be come out. OMG I gotta have it, OMG OMG. My first Call of Duty game.

But I am still moderately excited to be playing it. Square has done a good job and I will be proud to play their game for the years to come.

Speak for yourself. I happen to have been a regular on one of the main community websites for 1.0 and a lot of people were extremely excited about it. Then open beta came out and we were hugely disappointed...

Lol, how often you post on these forums about it says otherwise. I'm pretty excited about the game, and I know what I'm getting this time, for the most part, so that's good. My whole life isn't hinging on this game being the best game ever, but I'm comfortable with what it is and not indifferent. Certainly nothing else on the horizon that is really grabbing me in any case.

Lol so which is it - you're going to try it and see or you're committed to playing it for years? Hell of a trial period.

I can't wait.  The only other MMO I have a possible interest in right now is Wildstar but won't take this off the top of my list until I actually get to try wildstar.

FFXIV: ARR is the best game since vanilla wow imo.

He's just asking if people are hyped for FFXIV ARR or what other mmorpg are they hyped for and that while he's excited about the game to launch, he's not drunk with hype and posting rediculous shit like FFXIV ARR is the mesaih of mmorpg from here on out like alot of people have posted about EQN/GW2/etc.

I am eagerly awaiting early access, just wish it didn't start at 5am. Nice to find someone with a good balance of hype and not one of the 2 extremes of fanboy/hatetrain.

I think the big difference is that those recent games relied on new mechanics that they told us would change the genre. Even if we couldn't really see how, they promised us it would be awesome and we believed them and the hype meter sky rocketed because the "future" of MMOs was coming out.

We know what FFXIV is about, they aren't promising us any genre defining mechanics or new innovations that will save MMOs. They promised us a well made game, that we probably have seen before but now we get to experience it as Final Fantasy.  So the hype is real, everything you're expecting the game to be it is, unless you're fooling yourself into thinking it's something it's not. That's my take anyways.

    Well said!

I'm using the word Hyped to express my excitement for this game not to over promote, lol

I'm hyped but I have a few reasons why that many might not share.

I got to play it and loved it a lot

I'm a huge final fantasy fan. <-- this is a big one

The last expac for ffxi was even worse than abyssea that every loved to hate on so I'm game less at this time.

If i tell you that i hold in my hand a ball and that it will fulfill all your wishes but i have to keep it in my hand for at least another year and a half before it can grant your wishes, and i give you a mere glimpse through use of video that i made to show you how amazing it would be, would you be clamouring about how whatever is in my hand is the future and how it will be perfect and awesome and its about time this came around and how it will blow everything else out the water, etcetc?

No, no you would not. Yet for some reason this is what many do when it comes to mmorpgs still in development. They get teased with a trailer, fed a crap ton of sensationalistic words describing "new" features when most of them aren't even new, just portrayed a different way(i.e. Dynamic events, this "improved AI" of EQN, etc) yet people still game after game explode with retarded levels of hype only to crash down to cold hard reality weeks-months after release.

Its annoying seeing this process happen repeatedly over and over again. Thats why i like people like OP. Have a balanced head on their shoulders.

Hyped, I don' t know why, they hooked me in beta 2 when I first played the remake somehow, I can't put my finger on it but I enjoyed the hell out of it.  It seems like an amalgamation of everything in it calls my name somehow.

I just really want to play this game, I haven't had much interest in MMO's lately, but I did play FFXI for 7 years, I just really enjoy this game.

Ill say it has potential.   Worst case it will give me something to do until TESO or EQN come around.

I was more hyped before I did phase 4 and found the game to be more simplistic, dumbed down, ultra easy, and generic than a typical clone.  Hopefully things pick up.  I'm also not very overall impressed with SQEN as an MMORPG company.  They seem incredibly inept.  Their websites, account systems, preorder system, and general communication are all horrible.  So I guess we'll see if 21-50 is any better and/or if there's any endgame substance and hope like hell launch is smooth.

I'm still a bit hyped because it'll be something new to check out for a few weeks minimum.  But, I mean, it looks like just another MMORPG at this point - or more specifically, it looks like yet another clone that won't be worth subbing to long term.  We shall see.

I've been hyped for a lot of MMORPGs and usually have done some type of beta time for them before launch that amplified the hype to fever pitch.  This wasn't really the case for me in FFXIV.  20/50 levels of tutorial idiot mode is just way, way too much by about 15-18 levels.  I find nothing really remarkable about FFXIV other than the amazing fact that a designer managed to take dumbed down to all new levels.  I was actually somewhat bored towards the end of phase 4 - which is a first for a beta of a good MMORPG.  I'm thinking once release hits and the restrictions are removed and people level to 50 in 2-3 days that the game will feel more interesting.

I think for some other players, the FF angle, the fact that no big MMORPG has released recently, and there is no other big MMORPG coming soon, helps to kind of jack up the hype for this game a bit more.

If it sounds like I don't think much of FFXIV...well...the game and designer haven't given me any reason to do so.  Hopefully 21+ changes that because 1-20 were nothing special.  The good parts of the game are buried by the dumbness of it all.  I'm pretty burnt on all other MMORPGs worth playing or have exhausted the potential of them and F2P MMORPGs generally make me want to projectile vomit, so, as I said, at the very least FFXIV is something new to dink with.  For how long is the question.

Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.

Im super hyped!!!! I dont care if people say the battle system is really slow or that its a quest hub type of game. As long as the game is good at what it does and can entertain me  im all in.

In actuality I want to feel like i did when i first tried world of warcraft. I know im hoping for something totally impossible because since wow i tried like a million mmorpgs but if I feel connected like that then ill be satisfied.

Havent tried it myself but from forum talk and vids it SEEMS like its going to be great.
