PvP jut for fun or rewarding as well?

Paladin101Paladin101 Member Posts: 187

I was curious if you recieve any type of reward for guild based pvp? Whether it be personel gain or guild rankings/ land control? Or is guild wars like pre-honor system WoW where you just kill and raid for pure fun? Good answers are very appreciated.

There are different kinds of pvp with different challenges and different rewards. The randomly matched arenas are "just for fun" and quick action.

Tombs is a multi-stage tournament, where you earn personal fame + sigils (more fame=better sigils/rank). This also leads to the final challenge in Tombs: the hall of heros. If you win and hold this, you get your guild/team recognized to everyone playing everywhere and you unlock bonus pve content for your "world" (see: worlds at war).

GvG earns you rank on the guild ladder.

This is what I am asking also, in my post on page 3 - http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion.cfm/load/forums/loadforum/511/loadthread/38860/setstart/1/loadclass/175 - and repeated below:

    Built for Competition

If you like Player-versus-Player competition, Guild Wars was made for you. In addition to building up a character by undergoing missions and quests, you can choose to create a character specifically for head-to-head PvP competition or guild warfare. The game is designed to reward player skill and teamwork, not time spent playing, so you won't need to spend hundreds of hours leveling up your character to compete.

The game includes integrated support for guilds, with the ability to create unique guild emblems, to acquire guild halls, and to keep in touch through in-game guild messaging. Guilds can challenge other guilds to battle, compete for control of key parts of the world, and be ranked on a worldwide ladder.

Found this on their site, what does it mean on the territorial side?  Are key parts of the world chokepoints, monster spawns or resources needed by NPC crafters, cities?

Just wondering what the role of guild PvP is besides some ladder system.

    - - - -

So is this "Tombs: the hall of heros" area a "key part of the world" to hold?  What resources does it have or other strategic value?

don't know about gvg but you not only get recognition for winning in the HoH.. you also get an item.. don't know what it is though because I lost the roll on it.

Well the item you get is the sigil. There are different kinds, depending on your rank. Your rank is determined by how much fame you have. Winning the HoH isn't necessary for this I don't think, but your fame does increase exponentially if you do.

(you can also use a sigil to buy a guild hall)

I don't have the game. Can do make a character for both?

The way it works is this:
When you make a new character, you select either "role playing" or "pvp". Role playing, you start out level 1, start from scratch, ect. Pvp characters start out at level 20 and have pretty much ideal gear (minus unlockable runes/upgrades). Pvp characters are fine if that's all you want out of it, but they're a lot less customizable, and are unable to go anywhere other than pvp areas.

When you find rare items in pve and "indentify" them, they become unlocked for your account and will appear as options for any pvp charaters you make. Same goes for skills. So if you want a broad set of options, you'll have to do pve either way. But if a virtually non-customizable premade will meet your pvp needs, that's an option.

As one that is interested in the game, but not owning it, I didn't understand your post.

Yes or No - are there "key parts of the world" that guilds can control?

That is all I am asking.  Well, that and a few details of this "key part." Thanks.

Edit:  Ahh, whichever guild controls that tomb area also controls access to that PvE content.  Okay, a hard concept to understand, but I'm sure I'll see it explained on their support site (or in reviews).

    Enforced PvP!

Okay, I was waiting to buy the game, now I will just pass my turn!  LOL!

PvP giving PvE rewards, I am happy I didnt even try it yet, I would have been outraged to say the least!
