targeting problems

zytinzytin Member UncommonPosts: 202

I'm playing the ps3 version, and I'm having some serious issues with targeting, especially in combat.  It seems those cute little bunnies that get summoned love to hog my targeting, even if they're on the other side of an enemy, or npc that I want to target.

This is especially annoying in FATES, when you've got people and creatures running around all over, it's very rare that when I target a close by enemy, I don't end up targeting one of those bunny guys (I don't remember the spelling) or an enemy that's on the furthest section of the battlefield.

Does anyone know how to fix this?  Is there a way to set my targeting button to "nearest enemy" or some such?

Check in the setting for targeting filters. You can set four different filter modes and customise them to only target specific things.

Ah, thanks.  That helped a little.

Even with the filters I find selecting targets in big events to be nothing short of annoying. At least when using my 360 controller. Got so bad at one point that I've started using my mouse to target mobs.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

I agree, I'm playing on PC, and I tried using a gamepad.  Very fun btw, highly recommended.  I'm shocked at how amazingly well SE has set the MMO controls to a controller configuration.  But I was also having targetting problems.  I had no idea you could have filtered targeting though, that's great!

Targeting with mouse and keyboard is pretty frustrating too.

I am doing a quest and click on a rock while another player does the same for example 2 monsters spawn one for each person, I misclick clicking on his and press tab.... Instead of obviously targeting the one next to it the game targets a monster far away >_>

Sometimes I'm forced to use the mouse to target.

    Hope they fix it.

Go into keybinds-Target and change your tab key to be Target Closest Enemy.   That is not what it is bound to by default, but that IS an option in keybinds.

Seriously, don't people look in the game keybinds menu before posting questions these days??

I personally rebind tab and shift-tab to cycle through the enemies as set by the filters, but if you want to be able to target the nearest, as you indicated, that is an option as well.   The whole "target nearest" issue hits every new MMO where that is not the default.  But in most MMOs it is NOT the default, for a reason.  Target "the nearest enemy" is not how you should be targeting in group content.

I thought there was letters over the head of every mob that is close to you that is assigned to a controller key so you just have to hit the button for which mob you want to hit. Dont use the game pad but just what somebody explained in chat.

If you are melee you will target enemies close to you not far away...

Thanks for pointing out there's an option I can change to make it better but no usually games have only 1 targeting system with no option to change it that's the reason I didn't check in the settings.
