Pretty Annoyed with Early Release

avediasavedias Member Posts: 118

So, I preordered the game and have been simply trying to create my character throughout the day. Initially, I had my character created around 9AM EST and after entering in my character name, received an error that servers were coming down shortly so it wouldn't actually let me log into server.

From there, I went about my day and came back to see if servers were back up this evening. Servers are back up but my character wasn't created. Now when I try to create, the server that the rest of my guild is playing on was greyed out, kept refreshing and eventually the server was available.

I got through the process of creating my character and giving him a name, for a second time, and when trying to enter the server received a message that no more characters are allowed to be created on that server.

I only have one character that I can create and am sure not about to create a character for 2 days on a different server only to delete and reroll(or attempt to) when the official launch hits Tuesday. Why did I preorder this game again? I would understand if I was trying to create an alt or something but this is pretty ridiculous.

Sorry, just needed to vent...I understand problems are to be expected during launch of any MMO but this is legitimately frustrating. I can't even voice my concerns on their official forums because you need to have character data to post messages, haha. Ridiculous!

Don't worry about that ... in the game itself, for those of us who have created characters, the instance system (which includes tons of solo quests which are instanced, and are required to complete to progress and even unlock travel and so on) isn't working because the instance networking server can't handle the load at the moment.  So you can play for a while until you hit that instance wall, and then you can only grind, or do the harvesting/crafting from your home city more or less.  So while your frustration is understandable, even if you were able to get in to that server, you would still be pretty frustrated.

As always, MMO network infrastructure is not designed to handle the PCU loads at launch -- pretty much not at all.  When you have a game design that relies heavily on networking between servers to stream instanced content, you have an additional problem beyond the "world server" and "login server" issues which have always been a problem at MMO launches.  Here they had a relatively okay performance on the world and login server front (albeit by throttling, which negatively impacts people like you, for certain) but have run into a quagmire due to the heavy reliance on server networking to stream instanced content, which is a LOT of the content, whether solo or grouped.

Not to sound too selfish, but I'm glad I'm not missing too much. Just really annoyed because my gaming community has a bunch of the group playing while I am stuck waiting to simply name a character and enter the world. I'm a pretty casual gamer these days and can't dedicate specific hours (especially 5AM, lol) to log in and create a character...I'm wondering if I'm even going to be able to play with the group period. Servers are only going to be getting more slammed upon launch, who knows when I'll be able to even play the game I preordered.

On a side note, I was even contemplating creating a char on a different server and paying MORE a month to create additional characters on different servers (like the one my guild is on), but apparently you can't create any new characters on ANY of the NA/EU servers.

Yeah it's a mess right now really.  I'm sorry you can't create with your friends at the moment.

The bright side is that the game itself is good, quite good, if you like a traditional MMO.  But it looks like it's going to be a rocky launch due to the loads that want to play, and insufficient infrastructure to handle it -- both on the "front end" (worlds) and the "back end" (instance networks between servers).  Just going to have to white knuckle through it, likely.

Understandable especially if you paid money and preordered the game, customer service should have been better than that.

Seems like the usual MMO launch. I don't understand how they are ALWAYS suprised by the number of people that are going to log in day 1. You'd think they would be able to estimate how many servers they would need based on preorders/sales. And then I don't know...maybe have some "room" for error on the chance that your game is the hit you hope it is.

I am a bit underwhelmed with this process right now also, I guess because I didn't have "legacy" status that I do not get into the early access but I must have misunderstood because I thought since I pre-ordered a CE from the 1.0 game that I would receive all perks that the people buying the new CE would but guess that is just not so.

I am not really happy with this decision by SE but I guess I will just wait until the 27th, I already felt ripped off as all hell from the game I was delivered during 1.0 and now they hold me back from perks that the people who are newly buying the game get, I was not about to sub to a game of 1.0 caliber after my 1 month ran out so I did not achieve the legacy status, but I did spend somewhere around 70 to 100 bucks on a collectors edition of 1.0 that I got nothing back out of and it was pre-ordered, does not seem right to me.

I expect some congestion because it wouldn't be very efficient for them to put TOO much extra hardware into release when the game will settle after a few weeks and load will never be as bad.

But, for core game elements to be failing doesn't really cut it and yeah, you have to wonder.  You can't get into EA without preordering.  You have to register your preorder to download and play.  SQEN *has* to know how many people are eligible for EA.  It's not like people pre order just to pre order - they pre order to play asap.

There were queues and issues in OB and they don't seem to have learned much from that.

To me the "it's early release, it doesn't matter" bit doesn't cut it.  This IS release.  MMORPG players aren't known for their patience (which is one reason why I get rich via player economy in them).  I'm sure release will bring more players but I'd venture to guess that most players pre ordered.  Why wouldn't you preorder if you intend to play at all?  Buying to play on release day would make no sense when you could play earlier.

Sundays are historically the busiest days of the week for most MMORPGs (I'm sure there's facts on this somewhere but this is just my opinion based on playing a LOT of MMORPGs and being heavily into player economy thru them all.  Sunday is almost always the most active day for buying/selling and cities/populations are nociteable higher.  It's the day most suited for very casual players to make an appearance.

So...3 downtimes today on Saturday after this next one and the problems aren't getting solved.  And traffic should be even worse tomorrow.  Tomorrow should be interesting.

Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.

So at least they are taking some action, that's the one thing that matters most.
