This from lodestone:
After the emergency maintenance on Aug. 25, 2013 at 12:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m., to confirm the optimization of the matching server for the Duty Finder, we will be limiting the login more than usual. We will be relieving the limitation gradually as we see oversee the status.
We apologize for the inconvenience that this is causing everyone, but we please ask for continued cooperation for an overall stable environment.
Its going to be a long queue tomorrow if we don't get 1014'd

Its the fact they don't have enough servers. No throttling of logins will fix that. You seriously want the bad press of hours long queues?

Qs dont hurt the game in the long run as long as they arent there for weeks on end a ( also depends on how long the q is too
Well you cant improve server architecture in a couple of hours, it will take days.

It would fix what is equal to a DOS attack on their servers. 1000's of people all doing the same thing at once is much worse than a few hundred doing it at once while another few hundred wait their turn. The same amount of traffic is being processed, but at a rate far more stable than spam attacks.
What is happening right now is nothing short of a bottleneck.
Honestly, I'd take the bad press of long que's over server downtime and long drawn out bugs that make 100% of the people unable to complete main quests (Ultimately making them unable to play at all).
they actully had them working but they was over full this maint is to fix that
within the week
Hopefully they can get it fixed up quite soon, but with their experience with FFXI and FFXIV 1.0. I don't understand why they don't have this crap down by now.
That would still be days

How does login queues and not letting people play at all help anything? o.O
Damn, can't login at all, 2 hour queue - but at least I don't have to deal with having no ability to finish class/story quests...woohoo!
Thanks for your cooperation - because we have a lot of choice in the matter, right?
If this was F2P trash, what could you say?
But since it's a premium sub-based game, the service should be a little more premium, eh? Saying so and so launch was worse or it's just an MMORPG, you should expect a crappy launch is ... weak? This isn't a rookie company...and the genre has been around a while now. New MMORPGs should release like the company has zero experience or clue.
You can't do EA without a pre order and without registering and entering multiple codes. They should've had an idea of how many paying customers they're dealing with.
This is why you have a real open beta/stress test. You do it longer or you do it a couple times and you wipe characters. MMORPGs have been doing open betas for years and it's incredibly rare to NOT wipe characters so nobody would've cared, especially if it helped with a cleaner launch. They limited access to their OB (ie, not so open) so their systems were never truly stressed - kind of a dumb idea since stress testing and coming closer to launch conditions before launch is sort of a good idea. There were issues in OB that were fixed but no 2nd OB to see if the fixes worked and not tested during OB - that was saved for EA.
Few launches are without incident and you expect congestion, some login hassles, some glitches, some downtime. It happens. It's MMORPG reality.
The game is basically broken for anybody who didn't already hit level 10 in OB though. Everybody else is somewhat stuck too if you need to do instances or major quests. At least those folks can do crafting and alt classes. 3x ~3hr downtimes in the first 24 hours is pretty rough.
I actually don't care about the down time since. Sleep is good. It's not like I'm going to wait around and hop back in the game. It's more the principle of it all.
They didn't test or prepare well and they're not handling issues so well now either.
And if the solution is to limit paying customers from playing because they can't handle the volume - that is not a very acceptable solution.
Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.
FFXI at peak didn't have the kind of numbers they will likely have at launch for ARR. 500k vs...I'll guess 1-2m. Big difference in network and server demands there.
