A non cash shop model anywhere?

BootezBootez Member UncommonPosts: 72

Is there any game out without a pay-to-win (aka "free" to play) model at the moment other than WoW?

Before you get your panties in a twist, my definition of free to play includes XP potions, cash for item to sell exchange (ala PLEX in Eve). Pretty much everything actually. I don't even like cosmetic stuff in a cash shop, since to me, even cosmetics could be earned in game and have value to it.

So in other words, a game without a cash shop at all. So I guess that even rules out WoW.

Anyone know of any? I can't seemed to find one.

Only 2 that I know of are Istaria and FFXI.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.

I don't think DAOC has one, but haven't checked in a while. But as to more modern titles, you are out if luck, pretty much all MMOS are going to have one, just a matter of what's stocked in them.

Well, Final Fantasy 14: ARR does not have any kind of cashshop, they have been pretty clear about that.

Your definition of pay to win is hilariously broad. Hard to find any game like that really. Companies have to make money after all.

Also when did WoW go free to play? This is news to me, not that I would ever touch the thing.

I was going to say Guildwars but they do have a cash shop for aesthetic things and xp boosters.

Warframe doesn't really have a pay to win model since you can get everything through gameplay other than the color palettes. But that still fits in the pay to win model you described I guess.

Good luck finding a 100% free MMO then. Closest you might get to that is a Freelancer server, if you can find where to buy or download that game. I need to try and find my disc. Been having that space itch again since X Rebirth and Star Citizen are coming.

Not looking for a free mmo. And nowhere did I say WoW is free to play. I said it has a cash shop, which defeats the point of earning things in game.

I'll gladly pay a subscription fee. I just want a game without a money-grab cash shop in it. Games can make money off subscriptions. They have in the past. Now they are just being greedy.

And yes, I have a broad pay-to-win definition because I believe once you are in the game, you should be immersed in the game. A cash shop ruins immersion and reminds me of the greedy corporate bullshit that I'm trying to escape while playing games.

WoW will have a cash shop in 5.4 (and that's scheduled to come on Sept 10th), and he doesn't want one in his game.

I would be inclined to play Final Fantasy as it's totally free of RL money influence ingame, but it's the epitome of a forced grouping game, which is why I stayed clear of it. Not paying to be told to play with strangers as a gating method to get anywhere in a MMO. I'm more into character RP and development, not into what some strangers yell, scream and whine about and paying for their pleasure to do so on my time.

FFXIV. And it's damn good, especially if you are a Final Fantasy fan at all.

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.

Nearly every P2P now has a cash shop, nearly every F2P now has a subscription. Kerching! goes the cash till.

Good. Choices are good. The sub-only era is over.
