Loading screens?

syntax42syntax42 Member UncommonPosts: 1,385

Does it still have excessive loading screens and zones?  I have read about that being an issue from others on this site.  Someone said you have a loading screen to go into a building, then another loading screen when you go up the stairs.  Even the outdoor world was separated by lots of loading screens.

To me, that says it is based on pre-2000's technology (EverQuest?) and I should avoid this game.

There are loading screens between city districts and between zones.  The only load screens in interiors are to a few areas that are segregated from the main server -- it's certainly not the case that you get a load screen every time you open a door or go up the stairs.

I might check it out if they have a free trial at some point, then.  I have never cared for the Asian RPGs like Final Fantasy.  This looks like it has the excessively-flashy abilities which are typical of the genre, but it doesn't seem as bad as most others.

If you've never cared for Final Fantasy, you probably won't care for this game because it's Final Fantasy first, MMO second.

you don't  even hafta open doors  in this game. You just walk up to um and they swing open as you enter rooms. Only loading screens i've ran into were changing the main zones, when entering dungeons, solo story fights, and the inn in the starter towns. One thing to note is the chat window stays on your screen while you are zoning, well at least on the pc version.

Main cities are split into two different zones and there's a loading screen between them, but once you're outside the city the zones are large and I've ended up playing for hours without encountering a loading screen.

If you've got SSD hard drive loading a zone takes maybe 5 seconds, so it won't really interrupt gameplay much. If you don't have SSD it might take longer.

Loading zones are a lot quicker because the zones are smaller.

Funny you mention that. I'm not a big fan of all of the flashy attacks with colors and shit flying everywhere. I found last night there is an option to limit the battle effects or turn them off all together. Pretty awesome. I have them limited and it is MUCH better.
