Attacking While Moving

MightyUncleanMightyUnclean Member EpicPosts: 3,531

Sadly, I'm not that great at moving and pressing attack buttons at the same time.  Maybe it's a coordination thing.  Is this something you have to do a lot in FFXIV?  Or is it more stationary like the games of old?

Thanks!

Much more stationary than games that come out now a days.  But some classes (lancer mainly) benefit from positioning your self before every attack. There is also the occasional red danger zone to avoid but it's not very hard. Ranged classes definitely move less than anyone else.

But no matter what class you play, you won't be running and swinging to the point of GW 2 or Neverwinter. Unless you want to of course.

You do have to move occasionally, it has a system similar to Wildstar where there will be a triangle or circle on the ground where a skill is going to land and you have to move out of the way if you want to avoid getting hit. After a while you kinda get used to moving while attacking, but I'm sure if you were ranged or something you could probably get away with not really moving much in groups if you have issues after a while of trying.

Sounds good.  I was thinking of focusing on ranged DPS anyway!

What would be better?  Maybe a black mage?  Summoner?  I'm not too familiar with the game yet.

It's all up to personal preference. Personally I think the black mage is more appealing and might require a little less movement out of the two, but honestly you could just try them both out seeing as every character can be any class, it's a feature I really like about the game.

Hey, melee here.  Yes you will have to move while attacking.  Range might be a different story early on, but there are a lot of telegraphed attack you really need to dodge.  I expect the need to move to increase as you level, and perhaps the need for range to move as well will occur.
