sorry to hear that. its a shame really, because the youtube videos are deceptive and ffxiv is a really really great home. i havent felt this way in 10 years and i played every almost every single big mmorpg launch to date. good luck finding a new game.

I don't see how you can even say this.

How has FFXIV amazed you more than any other themepark MMORPG over the past 10 years?

There's zero exploration.  Everything is on rails and is your typical boring fetch/kill quests.  A billion of them.  You spend more time running letters back and forth, and picking up fruit than you do actually fighting mobs.

The game has forced solo instanced dungeons.  As if the lack of group content isn't enough, it forces you to do "Solo Dungeons" to further your typical boring "Save the world, Hero of the universe" quest line that's exactly the same as everyone else.  So the game doesn't just lack group content, it disrupts it whenever it can.

    Extremely simplistic combat system.

    Near no voice acting.

    So-so graphics.

I mean, seriously.  You say you haven't felt this way in the past 10 years, which is ironic since FFARR is basically a re-skin of almost every single MMORPG that's launched in the past 10 years lol.

Do you mean to say that the last MMORPG you played was 10 years ago? Lol.

Legends of Kesmai, UO, EQ, AO, DAoC, AC, SB, RO, SWG, EVE, EQ2, CoH, GW, VG:SOH, WAR, Aion, DF, CO, MO, DN, Tera, SWTOR, RO2, DP, GW2, PS2, BnS, NW, FF:XIV, ESO, EQ:NL

Baffles me as well, it's a good game, but I don't see how it stands out from the pack in any significant way.

I don't see him saying any thing about it standing out - he's just saying it's fun enough for him to call it his home MMO.

There's more to MMORPGs than 'boring quests' and combat in theme parks. There are intangibles like the feeling of being part of a world rather than simply being part of a rush to end-game with spreadsheets. It may be just his rush of being part of the launch, but there's not need to invalidate his opinion with your jaded one.

I kinda have to agree with you that everything feels like its on rails however most of these games you go from zone to zone levelling . This game seems to have various options for levelling .

    FATE

    Dungeons

    Guildhests

    Levels

    Side quests

    Story Quests

    Grinding

probably a few more , there are SEALs to farm for items as well right ?

It's not that it's innovative, it's that the world and game has a buzz to it that I have not seen at the launch of a game since vanilla WoW.

    OP

If you have to ask the question why play it....I wouldn't spend the money.

I disagree, I am a firm believer of asking questions. Just because I have to ask some questions on why this game would be fun for me doesnt mean it is not.

Pretty much played every MMO that's come out since WoW.../sigh

Honestly, in my opinion it's a boring game and you probably shouldn't play it. The only reason I'm playing it is because I have a RL friend playing and it's fun to hang out and kill shit. Every time a new MMO comes out it makes me want to resub to DAoC, but it's hard for me to choke up $30 for two accounts (main account and buffbot account), which was admittedly one of the downsides to the game. Other than that, masterpiece of a game.

For me, after GW2, I really missed the trinity.  I'm done with WoW, and I could never really get into Rift, SWtOR, eh, I dont feel like starting that up again.  I saw my wife playing this so I gave it a shot, server issues aside, im having fun.

Also, because Wildstar is a ways away.
