It isn't often that a game gets a second chance to recapture the imaginations of MMO gamers. Today marks a seminal experience with just that on the launch day for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has arrived.

LOS ANGELES (August 27, 2013) – Square Enix Inc., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products in the Americas, today announced that FINAL FANTASY® XIV: A Realm Reborn™ is now available in North America. Now, players on Windows PC and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system can adventure together in the first FINAL FANTASY title that introduces hallmarks from the entire franchise.

The highly anticipated online role playing game takes place five years after the realm of Eorzea was ravaged by the unleashing of Bahamut, the most powerful of the god-like Primals. As players explore the world and learn more details in the epic storyline, they can hone their skills with the Armoury System. This unique gameplay feature allows characters to change their role, abilities, and skills on-the-fly, without having the need to create multiple characters.

“We are extremely proud of all the work and effort spent creating FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn, and I hope that both new and old players enjoy this FINAL FANTASY experience,” said Naoki Yoshida, producer and director of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. “We look forward to supporting this title for many years to come, always listening to the community and delivering rich content updates and new stories that our fans deserve.”

Key Features

  • All the hallmarks of the FINAL FANTASY franchise, including genre-leading graphics and real-time cut scenes, beautiful music, and an immersive story experience

  • Band together with your friends to create guild-like “Free Companies” to take on the game’s story-driven adventures

  • High level detail and quality of graphics on both the PlayStation®3 system and Windows PC through the new graphics engine

  • Flexible class system that allows players to change to any of the 19 different classes on the fly by simply changing their equipped weapon or tool. Players can also unlock 9 different jobs as they advance in level.

  • New takes on classic FINAL FANTASY elements like the “Materia” and “Limit Break” systems that originally appeared in FINAL FANTASY VII

  • Varied options available for leveling and growing the player’s character − including class quests, main story quests, quick-action “Guildleves and Guildhests” that act as events players can tackle alone or with friends, and exciting “Instanced Dungeons" to raid in search of vast treasures

  • Full Active Time Events (FATEs) − unique events that allow for dynamic open world battles and adventures with other players

  • Personal companion chocobos for players to ride and fight alongside in battle

Players can also download a free companion app, FINAL FANTASY XIV: Libra Eorzea™, on their iOS devices. Upon downloading and logging in, players can view their created characters in detail, check out their friends’ character info, and access several databases on the in-game items, quests, achievements, NPCs and more. FINAL FANTASY XIV: Libra Eorzea will be coming soon for the iOS; the Android version will also be available at a later time.

I like the part where you can't log in to play the game because it lacks idle player disconnection code resulting in 24/7 full servers.

To be honest the game is more or less as bad as it was 2 years ago, i am sure it will do well because of the fan base out there, but besides hard core ff fans i dont see a lot of people picking this one up.

To say it s more or less as bad as it was 2 years ago, shows you have no idea what you re talking about. It has done a 180. It might not be a game you like, but to say it s as bad, is just wrong.

    I"m going with Soki here.

You might not like it, it might be having launch issues at the moment (which other mmo's have had) but your words are either a bald face lie, an attempt to spread disinformation or you really haven't played it.

If you don't like it, great, there are solid reasons not to like it. But the game is clearly heads and shoulders above its first incarnation.

My Grandpa is planning on playing all day himself, I told him he better have a backup plan because its going to be a mess, to which he replied I can always play GW2 and pown faces in WvwvW pvp. That raised my eyebrow never heard my Grandpa say pown faces before.

All NA and EU servers are full and on lockdown!  JP servers are hammered and pretty much full now too!

They ordered New hardware for JP data center only, but it won´t be ready until Next week.

So everyone buying the game now won´t be able to play anymore until SE pulls their fingers out of their rear ends and understands that it´s the NA and EU data centers that need New hardware badly!!

    What a joke!

I was happy that i finally got my codes, turns out that all the eu servers went down. I think it will take another week before we can play properly.

^ you make it sound like a choice hehe marauder can be a tank period. It can di damage but doesnt replace DPS role. I would give the game more time you are still doing beginner tutorial stuff at levek twelve lol..

Connection issues aside, SE will have to fix this, the actual gameplay is very fun and enjoyable.  I have had more fun running dungeons and Boss fights than I have had in other games.  Don't troll this game as nothing changed from 1.0 until you actually experience it  yourself, as it has changed a lot, and is very enjoyable.

One thing i can't stand is idle disconnect so we don't see eye to eye.

That has nothing to do with login's,they simply limited login to keep server from crashing, they did not do a good enough job with making sure enough servers were ready, who's fault that is idk.

VERY often i go make a sandwich or soup or just take a break to go play with my two puppies for 10 minutes.I don't want to go through the whole login process again,i like to think i can casually play as i feel fit.IMO some games are far too quick to boot players,EQ2 is like 10-15 i think,Wiz 101 was just retarded like 5 minutes, guess they were worried about losing 2 cents in bandwidth.

You should be able to idle all day long if you want and i can do that in FFXI.The only reason i get d/c in FFXI is lag to server or my IP resets at night which happens 1-2x a month.

If you could not login, then just make a complaint,i am sure if enough people complain you will get some free game time.My opinion is that they should have limited sales if they could not supply enough room for players, point being don't complain here,we can't do anything for you.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Launch day will be as follows.

    1) Hit start

    2) Create character

    3) Get put into queue if you are lucky

    4) Get told that server is full and booted from queue.

    5) Go back to #1

There are many hardcore fans. Mostly because it was mainstream to be a hardcore FF fan after FFVII was released.
