There is a shitstorm going on right now and even Yoshida is having a mental breakdown it looks like. Sadly, most of this crap has nothing to do with the actual design of the game, which is what hes mostly responsible for... that part, at least, is great.
It was actually yesterday in the US at least. I'm a 1.0 owner and was able to log in sometime after 4pm.
And yes, I was excited. And yes, it took me 5 minutes to get into the game, which was annoying but not rage worthy.
A lot of exagerations here on mmorpg, the fact is non of us had problems logging in yesterday except around 6EST, and it was only 10 mins wait to get in. That's not really that bad, stay logged in through 6EST and youll have np at all.
Granted they had probably double the number of people they expected. That speaks volumes of how good this game is. I think its definatly worth waiting for a few datacenters to have this game. Its that good.
ALL NA and EU servers are locked now! And the JP servers are pretty much full now as well, hence they order New hardware for JP data center! No mention of New hardware for us!!!
So everyone buying the game now won´t be able to play until SE buys New hardware for us too!

That is not all servers, that is half of them. There are 50 servers total between NA/EU and JP data center. That list is a mix from both groups.
This is almost all NA/EU servers with just a few JP servers.
But the JP servers are being hammered like crazy too now and login restrictions have been put in Place there too now.
So you will be facing the 1017 error, Server is Full! Message on both JP and NA/EU servers now. /Shrug
What is appaling, is that they now mention congestion trouble on JP datacenter and that they ordered extra hardware there to be ready next week!
But make absolutely NO mention at all for Our NA and EU data centers and what they gonna do there to fix the problems that existed since day one early Access!!

NA/EU customers are appearently not a priority for SE! They only take care of their own (JP).
The NA/EU data centers were overloaded right on Day 1 of Early Access.
But the moment the JP data center overloads, which is today, the JP customers immediately get a notice that more servers will be added for them early next week!
Utterly disgusting and highly dissapointing!
There is so much support and enthousiasm for this game now here in the EU and NA With lots of People pre-ordering and buying the game!
And this is how they thank us for it! More servers for JP and a big middle finger for us!
I haven't been able to play my character since Saturday early am. I am sure I just haven't been lucky on when to log in but I really can't change servers because that is where my guild is. They don't have afk timeouts, they don't queue you up most of the time just give errors. And they keep saying they are locking the servers for character creation but I still cannot connect to play my already existing character.
So far my assessment of the game is that the game is great, if you can play it. But the execution of this launch is an utter failure. And that is not overstating it. And they should not be ordering new hardware, they should be provisioning the overflow hardware and rackspace that was already ordered just in case this sort of thing happened. If they really are having to order in additional hardware then whoever is running their data centers is provably incompetent. You can contract with hardware vendors to have overflow hardware ready to go and even on site for a minimal fee without actually paying for it before you start to use it.
I have been and still really excited for this game but i am getting frustrated at not being able to play my character or with my guild and I am stunned by how badly this is going. SE needs a big win with this game it it simply isn't happening right now.

Naoki Yoshida and crew deserve the highest praise, they sure know how to make a damn fine MMO experience. Been playing 8 hours straight "so far" today, 11 straight yesterday. Respectively feels like 8 minutes and 11 minutes.
Yeah they know what the F@ck their doing. I don't think i even had kids the last time i played this much. lol
I wouldn't wait, nows a good time, there is pleanty of open servers. Some people are mad because they waited till the last miniute to join their friends on servers that are obviously full.
If your a new player and don't mind starting on a low pop server you should get this game now. If you have friends on legacy servers ( servers set up for people who were prebeta) then good luck. You should have gotten in when they announced they would fill up fast, all my guild logged on opening early access day to get in on the legacy server before they cut off new players to it, you coulda done the same. If you did not join a server your friend is on a legacy server don't complain. Reroll on a new low pop server, that's just how it is.
TO THE COMPLAINERS
I say, Remember when they closed Bahamut server for over a year because everyone jam packed into it on FFXI. Well the same is here too. They have a right to lock servers that have filled up to make sure people who rolled first can log in.
Start your character on a new server and stop trolling people as if every server is down because you cant join your friends on a legacy server.
On that note, YES YOU CAN START A NEW CHARACTER, ON A LOW POP SERVER.
yay launch day, i cant login with any of my characters in any NA server. For each day i lose due to "server full, try again later" i asume SE will give those days back, right?......right???????
cant believe a game of this caliber from a company of this caliber didnt think of overflow-like servers. Maybe their caliber is just an illusion.
Actually, I'm was really excited. I got home from work at 5am this morning and played for a little bit. I created the character I'm playing on Exodus in Phase 4 Beta, so I'm attached to it and have put in many hours into it, so I'm not rerolling.
I woke up a couple hours early, so around 2:30pm EST to play for an hour before work. I'm getting the server full 1017 error message that everyone else is getting.
The problem is that those of us who are from 1.0 only get until Sept 9th to play for free. After that our sub starts. I planned on playing for free until Sept 9th, and possibly cancelling until after I move into my new house Oct. 1st. However, as it's looking now, I may not get hardly any free time out of this deal, which means I won't really get to test out the game and its features before I'm asked to fork over the dough on a product I don't know is worth it or not after playing the crappy 1.0 version. That's the whole point of the 14 days former 1.0 players are getting, to let them try the game out for free for a bit to convince them the game is worthy to be paid for once again. How are we supposed to do that when it's looking like we won't get to play for another week or so.?

Near impossible? I have played every night since the 24th. When it says the world is full, you just hit to hit it over and over and after about a minute, it puts you in a queue. It is a bit of a pain, but not a show stopper. At least, it hasn't been for me.
The funny thing is.. when you do get in game how damn smoothly it runs. I have everything jacked up and even with 30+ people on the screen.
I tried hitting it for 5 min and still got the message. I wonder if people are just leaving their characters in game to reserve their spot, because it's still working and school hours in the US.
