2.5 Second GCD and More

BiggusRiggusBiggusRiggus Member UncommonPosts: 126

I have been in since early launch began. The only thing that I cannot figure out so far and kinda bugs me is the 2.5 second GCD. Why? Some have said that it is so the spells can match the detailed casting animations. For whatever reason, combat seems very slow. I have only had a small amount of experience in groups so far, but I kinda feel like that if you make a mistake, such as in healing the wrong person, withing the time it takes the 2.5s GCD to cycle through, your tank can die for example. I've been tanking and die a lot in the guildleves (group instances).

The server issue is annoying, but I've played just about every MMO release at launch for the last six years and am kinda numb to stuff like that. I just go nap, or mountainbike, etc..

This game like most of the MMOs out there has brought together an almagamation of many aspects of MMOs that I have enjoyed. I have dabbled in a little bit of everything in the game to include the crafting and gathering and leveled to 15 which is where things kinda really begin to see the depth of the game. The crafting seems like it might be relevant. I'm not dying to play the game, but I have been at least curious everyday to login when the servers are up, and progress a little further to see what it has to offer.

    1) Balance - prevent you from ripping off a bunch of AoEs on high levels, using Bane, and owning a ton more mobs than any DPS character has any right to do without a tanker

    2) It forces choice for the healer, apparently you've not played with good healers

    3) The rest I agree with, it's a good amalgam of a bunch of features I like.

I agree with you completely. I even kind of like the idea that it takes choices. One of the things that turned me off about Rift in the later game was that it was a macrofest.

The 5 min GCD is the reason I will not play this game.

    Pretty graphics - fine

Open end character customization - great

2.5 sec GCD - sorry killed it.

    Won't play.

i cant wait until mmo developers completely reject cooldowns and global cooldowns, and instead make combat completely based on resource management (mana, energy, stamina).

Cooldowns are just bad and need to die, alone.... in a hole.

Nay I like the cooldowns and specialy Global cooldowns. Maybe im just old school but it feels more RPGy to me. Plus my first MMO was Turn based..... cooldowns is nothing compared to that.

    Agreed.

Watching cooldowns on hotbars is like watching paint dry. The absolute worst MMO contraption ever conceived.

I kind of like the cool downs as well - its in keeping with the whole classic/retro feel it.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D
