I've always assumed it was simply a cultural thing, although I have no evidence one way or the other. I certainly can't imagine someone -intentionally- thinking that would be a superior way to setup a site for us lazy Americans, but I have little difficulty imagining that it makes sense to a culture that is very focused on structure.
Doesn't make it less of a nightmare for us, to be certain, but might help explain it.
Look at Korean MMO's not in other countries but in actual South Korea first off you are required to have a Korean or Chinese cell phone with an active plan then with that cell phone upon purchasing the game you must use your cell phone to create the game account and have it linked to your phone. I am assuming it's more complicated but that is about where I gave up finding out how to go about playing a Korean MMO.
I think we're just spoiled everything we do in the U.S. is usually very streamlined and as easy as possible because companies know as consumers we are all generally lazy and easily annoyed. Ask anyone who has worked as customer support and they will agree with this view. LMAO
It's an elaborate study on FF fans and how much they'll take before they choose not to play. The answer so far has been, "no amount of punishment will stop a FF fan."
