Newbie questions about the gameplay

Hello everyone,

I have a few questions about the game mechanics and gameplay in general:

1)Is it true that once you've done a quest you can't do it again with any other class?

2)Is there anyway to find out the level of a quest given by a NPC without actually going to the NPC itself? I thought the game wouldn't show low level quests on the map but so far it seems like it does...

3) What is the 2nd class to level up for blackmage? So far i've found diffrerent informations... some says archer, some arcanist, some pugilist.

1. This is true. After you've completed a quest, you cannot complete this quest again with any other character on the same account. You may take the quest a second time, but you cannot complete it in order to prevent exploitation.
2. No. This is by design and for improved immersion you'll have to actually go and see the quest objective in order to see how difficult it is.
3. Arcanist or archer usually works best.

Regarding #1 for the most part it is true.  There are however alternative kind of quests you can do called guildleves(basically a quest with no real story behind it even though there is a like a paragraph for all of them).  And, they do plan on adding repeatable quests(as in traditional repeatable quests) as time goes as well as new regular quests.

So there is no specific 2nd class required for black mage? Can i go either way to lvl 15 with arcanist or archer?

There is a specific class for black Mage job. I don't know what it is off hand.  You can alway go check lodestone for the info tbh I'm too lazy to do it for you

I'm not 100 % sure (playing a tank) but this is from official forum Black Mage = Thaumaturge lv 30 + Archer lv 15.

It's Thaumaturge 30 + Arcanist 15

All the disciples of magic work off each other (surprising I know :P).  The only reason they didn't before was because arcanist wasn't in the game.

WHM = CON + ARC

BLM = THM + ARC

SCH = ARC + CON

SUM = ARC + THM

 

Not sure if the acronyms are the accepted ones but hopefully you can guess what they are. And sorry if you can't.  And just in case the first class is the main one for the job so it has to be @ 30 other has to be @ 15.

Shouldn't this be

SCH = ARC + CON.

I just wished there were a good wiki which explains all this in a correct and clear way.  But all I find are outdated wikis (1.0) or false/incomplete information. Especially concerning the jobs as the requirements changed just lately. The official FFXIV homepage is also not very helpfull in this regard.

Yes sorry :P.  And, I know the feeling.  I made the mistake of getting THM to 15 instead of ARC for WHM.  I was pissed when I found out they changed it (found out at like lvl 14 for THM so just said screw and got it to 15 anyway).

I think people are forgetting

ARC = archer

ACN = arcanist

• Paladin, requires Gladiator level 30 and Conjurer level 15. Can use Marauder and Conjurer abilities.
• Dragoon, requires Lancer level 30 and Marauder level 15. Can use Pugilist and Marauder abilities.
• Monk, requires Pugilist level 30 and Lancer level 15. Can use Lancer and Pugilist abilities.
• Bard, requires Archer level 30 and Pugilist level 15. Can use Conjurer and Archer abilities.
• Warrior, requires Marauder level 30 and Gladiator level 15. Can use Gladiator and Marauder abilities.
• White Mage, requires Conjurer level 30 and Arcanist level 15. Can use Arcanist and Conjurer abilities.
• Black Mage, requires Thaumaturge level 30 and Arcanist level 15. Can use Thaumaturge and Arcanist abilities.
• Summoner, requires Arcanist level 30 and Thaumaturge level 15.
• Scholar, requires Arcanist level 30 and Conjurer level 15.

Edit: Oh just wanted to say check out the ffxivinfo.com  specially the class descriptions not only does it show you which cross class skills can be used with the class but also the Combo list for melee.
