Anyone else feel that this game has boring landscapes?

Veiled_lightVeiled_light Member UncommonPosts: 855

Main reason why i quit this game was because the land is soo boring! I played in beta hoping it would get more exciting as it goes along! But every zone has nothing in it :

I'll let the commonlands off because i loved that place in beta :) But Antonica, nek,EL,perm etc all lack cotnent! Theres no landmarks that make the game itneresting :S TS has to be the most boring place i've ever been in! There's only 2 empty cities and they are emopty cause all zoned up :(

Have to say this game lacks not in gameplay but in what to explore : They add new zones but all the zones are the same more of nothing!

Wow have you really explored? I mean I think Nek is the scariest place I've ever seen. It freakes me out still when I'm harvesting and hear the leaves rustle, I still have to look around to see if something is coming up behind me.

In TS have you seen the villiages, the caves, the monuments, the suken ships (that's right you have to exploer the water too) the broken devices sitting in large craters? The mines?

I think people just take what they see for granted and don't really delve into what is there. You see a crater you don't bother to see what's in it.

to be honest, I never really thought about it

I found the landscape to be interesting and fun to explore. But everyone is different.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

Cities: the central zones could be more populated for sure. However, the suburbs (like baubleshire) is "never" empty, and the harbor is always busy. Give players a chance to set their "recall" point to the city, and it would be even more people there.

If its one thing the zones in Eq2 lack its not content.

The first trip to Permafrost was - interesting - While up to that point the giants where the most impressive "casual" mob I've seen, the killer whales took that place like nothing else.

After spending more then 100 hours on anything its easy to get bored. I'm not exactly enjoying the view when I drive for work, but the tourists still go "ohh ahhh a mountain".

Yeah but theres giants everywhere in this game :S And whales? I don't want Whales, Snakes, Rats, elephants, lions etc etc :S it's fantasy for god sake!

While I agree with you on the cities and their emptiness. I tend to disagree on the other zones. I think they are pretty nice and never had this kidn of problem with them so far.

what is a fantasie game anyway... like a Medusa its a WOMAN with SNAKES in her hair. The comby is fantasie the use of the elements of it are not.

And whats an landscape game without the usual wildlife.
If those all are mutated monsters 2 ... it would look more like a sifi-game like in Anacry Oline.

Also note that the comming of EQ2 is make a fantasy game that lookt real.
Wich meens real like monsters with mythical beings and only fantasy monsters to a minimum

And about the Landscape. Do all quests in 1 zone and youl notise that almost evry strange looking object from a grave to a tree could be interactive to a quest. Also recent weeks they added well alot more objects in citys as in terrain. (also added to much monsters if you ask me)

First off, you really must be missing alot of content if you didn't see anything in all the zones you listed. There are TONS of landmarks, most give you experience for discovery as well. I would have to say EQ II has more landmarks then any other game other then maybe SWG with its POI's.

And in response to what I quoted from you above. If your killing medusas and other fantasy monsters every 3 steps you take the idea of adventuring really loses its luster. I prefer to have to go find my fantasy monsters rathen then be swimming in them, because then they are just bears, snakes, bugs, or whatever else, no different, just different looking.

I agree to a degree, there is interesting or at least semi interesting stuff there, but there really aint no landmarks, no charisma if you will, no soul. There is a lot of everything and it looks nice for sure, but very few WOOA experiences, at least outside.

Inside however you have places like the Obelisk of lost souls, wich is kinda neat, Nektropos castle, allthough a bit gloomy for me it is still awesome. And then there is Soluseks eye, honestly one of the most awesome place in any game to date ( at least almost, excpetion below) , and inredibly huge, mostly because giants live there of course and things like their elevators, well they are our aircraft carriers.

Permafrost I dont care for much, or Everfrost, to many penumbra flashbacks from AO. ( Did anyone per chance notice as well how much in EQ2 comes from that game? :) )

So to sum it up, EQ2 geography is like the newest music hit, kinda cool at first and you can see things and not get tired, but it turns bland kinda quick, with a few exceptions.

The Comparison is obvious, so I have to say that the Deeprun Tram from Stormwind to Ironforge alone has more Charisma and WOOA then any other game, hell you can even add them all up and not get something nearly as cool. :)

I have to agree with the original poster, EQ2 landscape is so bland. Even tho its a 3D world the terrain seems so flat. The palettes they use are also very dull.

Commonlands, yeah i let this one slide too, what i liked about that zone was its varied beastiary

I switched to WOW (have local friends with 60s) and i will say that even tho the gfx are inferior to EQ2, the level design and color palettes are clearly superior

Commandlands is varied. It has graveyards, canyons, desert areas, plains, a few hills, and several instanced group zones. One is a canyon, a couple more are cave areas. It has a dry, open, and somewhat corrupted feel to it.

Nektulos is completely different. It's dark and gloomy. It's littered with undead, and other cave areas, graveyards, an ancient castle, a couple waterfalls, lakes, and cliffs too. It has an openly hostile feel to it, and it is immediately obvious where you are when you are in this zone. The small group crypt zones off of it are cool too.

Antonica is like the Commanlands, but it has more of a bright and cheery feel to it. It's more grassy, less dry, and it feels adventurous. It also has a HUGE buried city that feels like a crypt, and a cave zone, and a canyon area for mini raids.

Thundering Steppes is a huge grassland area with rolling hills. It also has huge craters from when the moon exploded. There is a dead riverbed running through it, and this zone also has it's own feel.

Enchanted Lands have a dreamy grassy feeling, with different mischevious creatures spattered around the starting area, and in other parts of the zone there are corrupted halflings who have been enslaved by some very evil creatures. There are mines, as well as an area infested with goblins and the lair of Runnyeye and corrupted city of Rivervale, which I haven't explored much. The beach areas have sirens, boat wrecks, and the ghosts of the passengers. EL has an ethereal natural feel, with corruption the further you wander.

Zek has an air of a wartorn badlands. It's totally different from the rest. There is a HUGE mineshaft in this zone, where you can delve into the very pits of the orc mines and plunder them. The abundance of mining nodes here indicates how the warring has stripped much of it of living creatures in many areas. There are a few oases though, where some of the toughest and sometimes corrupted wildlife have survived. This zone also has its own feel. I thought the maze type fairy pond was amazing, quite frankly.

There are also several boat rides you can take to and from these places. They offer different adventures with their own rewards. These are just the places I have been to. Many other players have mentioned some of the higher zones.

Maybe you don't think the zones are varied or interesting. I simply disagree.
