World not accepting new characters

I'm new to FF but not to MMO's but this is a 1st for me: Not only can I NOT log into the game - I can't even log into a world to finish creating my character.
The game looks VERY promising but as usual these companies sell a product that you can't play...not just yet.
Has anyone gotten in by reloading the "reload world info" button or is that a waste of time right now? Every once in a while a server or 2 opens up but when I trying logging in I get an error and the "you can't create any new characters on this world"
Now that I have my qq out of the way - anyone get a chance to do any crafting yet? I was a big crafter on SWG and have been looking for a complex crafting system since then. I can't seem to find many details and would appreciate any info...thanks!
Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.
