CU and Doctors

LeasaLeasa Member Posts: 449

First off let me say that SWG needed some changes.

However I think they shafted the Doctors.

In order to get med xp we have to do it in combat.  We no longer get XP in the med centers.  Some have said they did it because of tumbling was giving easy XP for Docs.  But if thats the case let us get XP for healing wounds not damage.

One effect I see from this Draconian change is where are people going to get healed.  Docs are not going to hang around a place where they get no xp.  They have just made the Med Centers useless.

Yep I do agree, I think its gonna be a real pain to find a doctor now. Most of the ones I have seen are respec'ing to something else because they don't wanna deal with playing a doctor that way. I do feel that docs and entertainers got tromped on pretty bad with the CU even if I do like most of what the CU brings. TK's took a rather nasty hit as well but atleast they were still what they started as, a combat profession.

Doctors in the field don't really make sense to me, they should be off the field, combat medics are the ones that belong on the field. They also have nerfed wounds and battlefatique down enough to where you almost can just sit it off in the cantina and hospital. I haven't had much of a need for a doctor so far. I don't think I have hit over 20 points in either since the CU.

Doctors were great in SWG it wasn't hard to find one and it was great to play a doctor. Why have they changed things which were goodimage

Well I did feel Doctors buffs were way to powerful, but there were other ways to handle them so they could continue to do it as they know how and keep their buffs of value without doing what they did to them. They have pretty much ripped the non-combat experience professions out of the game and made the entire game based on combat now with exception to artisans whom now have to risk going out of town and being eaten alive(and in some places in town!).

    Very good question.

But you could probably find an answer to the Unified Field theory before you could explain why SOE did some of the things they did. image

Yeah .... Nova for breakfast, and my bike as desert ! Cygnia as appetizer .... and all I wanted was to show her some 700 ship parts looted in space.

I did a quick head count ... we are up to 23 Kimos around LoknLoad now .. its quite clear what city is the true "Kimoville Point of Interest" on Lok. Kimos are now level 94 .. veeeery tough, but doable by a team.

I feel sorry for the guys doing the "Lok Marathon" racetrack .. boy, are they in for a surprise when they come down from Nyms at 600 an hour.

Well .. back to the topic ... medical supplies are now linked to combat level ... so the higher level you are, the better you can heal .. even without doctor title. You dont need to waste skill points just taking novice medic. But reviving and ranged and area healing is still the area of docs and combat medics. And yes, in such areas as the Death Watch Bunker its the combat medic and doc that keep the group alive.

One of the worst things they did to doctors and combat medics was give them magical healing powers. Everything that a doctor does now is magical. There are stims and such, but you don't really need them for anything.

They also took away their crafting abilities and gave it to the already bogged down bio engineers. It does make some sense that they did this, but it also took away 2 years of work that a lot of doctors and combat medics enjoyed. A lot of the crafting docs and cm's were mad because if they wanted to continue crafting, they basically had to drop the main profession to become bio engineers, but in SoE's infinite wisom, they decided that crafters and entertainers couldn't use the respec system.

Another big problem is only getting experience for heals "cast" while in combat. You have to heal during combat or you lose out on experience. Now, as a doctor, I pretty much always worked in the field, but most healing was done during downtime. IN the new system, I'd almost never get experience. They also took away experience from healing health wounds in the med centers and hospitals, so basically those buildings are now useless.

A lot of what you say is true. The role of the doctor has changed significantly. It seems to me that the true reason for having a doc with you is now quick and painless resuz. The CM can do the rest and gives you some offensive punch too.

I think the reason why they changed the way healing professions get XP is to stop the many variants of medic XP grind macros  (healing tumbles, entertainers, or pet tricksters). So nowadays you have to heal , not become master doc in a day tossing bacta at a tumbler.
