Why can't SE just reset the server every so often?

I highly doubt the servers are full of active players all the time, so why can't SE just reset the servers every 8 hours or so kicking the AFK people so that others can log in... I don't know anything about servers but I would think it would be as easy as flipping a switch on and off. It's like they are doing nothing to fix the problems they are having. It's been almost a week from launch and not a single patch to fix the log in issues.

SE has announced that they wont be charging anybody any "days" until they get new servers up and fix the data center.

Funny thing is I know this and I don't play.

This is a holiday weekend here in the States. One filled with BBQs and family time. I suspect that SE will have their solution by midweek. Have a burger and a beer, level your patience stats.

The AFKers are a symptom but not the main problem.  There were huge problems before masses of people wised onto the fact that they could just never log off and thereby reserve a spot in the game.  The AFKers have made the problem much worse, of course, and it's extremely odd that there is no AFK timer given that you do not need to be logged in to sell things or something like that.

because everyone will use autoclick or a macro to stay active while they sleep.

because it wont change anything other than pissing out legit player.

the only way to fix the issue is more servers.

Not everyone will use macros, probably not even most. But point well taken, as afkers are just a symptom and only increasing server capacity will really fix the problems.

reseting the server wont help anyone yeah your afkers are gone but now u have the whole server population trying to log back in at the same time the congestion on the server would be just as bad and cause just as many issues

It finally dawned on me why they refuse to restart servers OR deal with the TONS of AFKers.

If the servers were full of people actually playing, then duty finder would be choking so much nobody would be able to do story quests or instances (we've already seen that duty find cannot handle full load early in EA).

So I think they LIKE that there are tons of AFKers preventing other people from logging in an actually playing.  It's like their servers are about half full this way - and duty finder can handle that load.

It's kind of sick and wrong.

Hopefully whatever they do on Weds fixes all of this but since SQEN seems to be completely incompetent and inept thus far, I'm not holding my breath.  They need 3 hours of maint time to do tweaks that accomplish nothing.  I can't imagine how much of a disaster the downtime will be on Weds.

SE can't really do server reset because it would end up hurting those who are playing when the server reset comes. They could do AFK kick, or maybe some minigame you'll have to play after being logged on non-stop for 5 hours to prove you're not AFK, but they can't really do a server reset.

I never saw that announcement but i did say it would happen,i expected it from Square.

    @op...

Apparently certain regions are completely full right to the max but some have still quite a bit of space.

What i think really happened is they thought everyone would sort of filter evenly across the servers, not very smart thinking really.it sounds like they have free server space and are going to be making changes come Wednesday.

BTW you can't just reset servers, there will be hundreds of them and then everyone would be trying to login again all at the same time, probably causing more problems.

Sadly you have to wait until Wednesday, good news it won't cost you anything of missed time, but loads of frustration that i can feel right through the internet airwaves lol.
