I want to love this game. And when I can play I actually do love it. But small stuff like this, that should be accounted for before hand, shouldn't happen when this whole focus on "doing it right" and making good on a second chance.
I just spent 30 minutes spamming '0' on my keyboard with no luck. I actually would have gone longer but I got the whole NA/EU Server could not be loaded deal. It's been going on for over a week now dating back to the Early Access and there's still no fix in sight. Ugh, so frustrating and I'm sure many hear share my feelings on this.
The one question I have are they kicking people off after they are AFK so long? I logged in to my other character on a JP server (lvl 50 I never transferred) and I fell asleep for a couple of hours after leaving my PC but never was logged off.
If people can just log in and stay on, it's going to always congest the server and for no reason other than the players don't want to go through what I and many others have to.

I played first two days of early access, have had the game since it was available for preorder...and unable to play any evening since. I'm not going to stand by my comp and continually try to log in every 5 minutes. It's ridiculous that they don't have a queue larger than 100 people on each server, and extremely poorly thought out. Anyone who apologizes for them is equally ridiculous, as there this is not some start up company.
Lol, why should you get anymore then how many days you ve lost. They re trying to fix it. If you lose 5-6 days, why in the hell should they give you another 30 days on top of the original 30 days.

Its easy to just dismiss an idea as stupid without considering the possibilities behind their reasoning. Let's remember these are professionals with years of experience in their respective fields leading these projects. They aren't dumb.
My guess behind 100 person queue is if the queue is designed to trickle people in slowly rather than let 1 in when another leaves. If its a trickle in queue that doesnt check for server capacity then the servers risk being crashed which they have been working hard to avoid this whole time. Some service is better than no service at all. Then again its just easier to cry abi things with minimal justification.
The point is this: why design it that way?
Professionals get critiqued all the time for decisions they make that are not the best ones. I know, I am one. They are not above criticism because they are experienced professionals. Any contemporary MMO with a queue that short raises substantial, immediate and obvious criticisms because the impact (having players spam the login server repeatedly) is not really capable of being defended, professional or not.

somehow games like Warhammer, Rift, etc, were able to queue, but square enix can't figure it out? atleast with a 4 hour queue, i can decdie to go do something else while waiting. Sometimes instead of dismissing valid complaints as "crying", because you don't have an intelligent argument to stand on, is also easier, isn't it?
Want to be an apologist for them, then great, just say so. But please don't pretend there's any justification for this fiasco. If anything, after the mess they made with 1.0, they're on double parole...and failing very badly.

you're right, I really don't want a month...just don't want the clock to start until they fix this mess...which is supposedly Wednesday? If they don't do at least that...then no, I will no be renewing.

No, there's currently no AFK timer or kick. Some people may get disconnected due to a 90000 error, but that generally only happens when zoning (session change).
Every town in the game is filled with AFK players, really, for precisely this reason.

Well, I never said it is justified or these professionals can't be critiqued. I'm merely pointing out that these people have their reasons behind what decisions were implemented, whether or not they were right or wrong is another discussion. I'm merely trying to express the fact that these people aren't as stupid or dumb as people think because they didn't implement something that they see as "obvious". It's easy to take everything on the surface and react to that as opposed to thinking 1 level deeper and try to figure out what really is going on underneath. Maybe the hundreds of posters here can run a project better than a company as experienced as Squaresoft can, who really knows, but my money is on the people that been in the industry for years as opposed to the armchair experts here that always think they know better.
If they could implement a much larger queue or a queue to handle the exact situation that they are facing now, they would do it if it was "so easy and such a good idea". But its easy to make these "suggestions" and make everyone believe its a great idea when they don't know what's going on underneath the surface:
What if its not a great idea, what if it'll bring servers down, what if its not feasible, what if they are already working on it...if everyone else's idea is so great, why aren't they in those respective companies...if they are so great, do you think these people aren't smart enough to use them...do you think your ideas are even THAT great so great that no one else would of thought of them but you...
This is part of going beyond skin deep in terms of thinking. I'm just saying, stop doubting the people so much over what appears to be simplistic features or easy implementations. If they were so easy to use and implement and if they were so effective in solving whatever the problem is, wouldn't they have done it already? They are most likely smarter than you or me when it comes to these situations because they have way more experience than we do in regards to managing something like this.
You can either trust them or not, that's your decision. I plan to stick it out because the gameis good enough it can fend for itself. I honestly don't even care to defend them because this style of thinking in these types of players I can honestly do without in my games. If they lack the patience for a MMO launch, they probably lack the patience for anything else including in-game encounters.
Well thanks for the plethora of answers! I guess I know now, and at least the server overhaul on Wednesday will alleviate problems for everyone, and now everyone gets 7 more days of free time. Regardless, I am a little upset because I took time out of my schedule to play the game but at least SE is working on it. This launch has been less than perfect but they have a great game so hopefully server issues will be resolved soon and we can all move passed this atrocious beginning.
Final Fantasy XIV has improved, but it has had a FAIL Launch, I would not recommend buying the game until we see if Square Enix fixes this because you are just wasting you're money and time with a game you can't play I have tried for 7 houes to get on my character I can't.
This is almost as bad as when Japan had the EarthQuake disaster and Square Enix used that as an excuse to shut down the original game they failed to launch when they should have had servers open in U.S, Europe, and Japan which means that U.S should not have had any issues just because a disaster in Japan and so on.
Final Fantasy XIV has improved, but the launch has been a massive Failure, and it has been 3-5 days I have got the 1017 error can't get in on my character all day today.

Lol, that's rather insensitive. I'm sure if a disaster happens in your locality, you will be just fine and dandy sitting in your office while everyone else is busy trying to recover from a situation. I guess natural disasters aren't a big deal anymore, we got bigger and better things to deal with like MMO launches! Sad and funny at the same time...sigh.
