lmao. I spewed coffee all over my keyboard when I read this.
SO SAYETH sumnayin! lol! I've got news for you, son. You don't speak for anybody but yourself.
You're perfectly entitled to your opinion, just as everyone else here is. But you know what they say... "Opinions are like anuses... everybody has one, and they all stink."

Well, because, umm.......well, it's like this. You see. Ummm. In GW2, there is umm, well, GW2 events are "dynamic" that's why.
I mean jeez, what was the DE leveling cycle in Queensdale? Troll, Bandits, Grubs, Giant Cuda, Boar, Wasp......maybe a few others mixed in, rinse and repeat to whatever level you could take it to.
I don't find this game interesting in the least. Amazed so many are fanbois already.
Chat bubbles? Really? Are we in the 1990s?
Run here and whack 10 rabbits, run there and deliver this letter... zzzzzzzz
Graphics are nice. But nothing else about the game is new, interesting, or clever. Now add the epic fail launch issues...
Maybe if it was a B2P title - but a sub for this? LOL.
Crafting is refreshing, interesting and clever. Can't speak much about dps classes XD since my main dps class "lancer" is just lv18, while I got 3 crafting classes at lv20 and 5 at lv15.

does the crafting mean anything, or can you always buy/get drop for equal or better?
OP I couldn't agree with you more. I think the Fate system is horrible (and even go as far to claim it is being exploited).
What I can't figure out is why people are joining Fate groups. Yes, the experience, loot, and seals are great, but it is terrible gameplay--it is not fun at all and takes no skill whatsoever.
I hope I won't be forced to endlessly grind Fate's to level a second class. Because if that is the case then I will be unsubscribing very quickly.
Agree fully with you. Have joined few times and discovered all is total button masher, from time to time i'm healing someone ... done. Terrible. I prefer exploring. When I can login, which rarely happen.
And about exploring ... have never seen (except maybe gw1) with so many invisible walls everywhere. With caves or sinkholes you will never explore, because they are forbidden to enter by some magic that have created invisible wall. I will never jump from any bridge to water because again bridge is protected by invisible wall (ok, except is solid ground under bridge).
Then ... with whole interface is obviouse in every single step that have been created for console ... then somehow ported to pc. Wondering they even support keyboard and mouse.
Among dozens and dozens of various problems: every alt need to manually set all settings, hud, ... Copy is possible if you know well windows and directories stuff.
When creating alts (i'm altholic :-)), one can not skip that looooong intro.
When starting to talk to quest giver it is impossible to cancel immediately, as one must go through all that nonsense dialogs (using english 300 years old i guess) up to end to select cancel. Uaaaaaa.
Agree with many this title at best could be B2P, never sub.
And I'm really sad for all this because I always enjoyed FF games on console. But I have moved to PC's because i want to PLAY ON PC'S! If i would like to play console games would stay there.
How are Fates different for GW2's "Random Encounters"?
edit- Random Encounters is Wushu, has nothing to do with bosses and killing. "Dynamic Event" was what I was looking for. Thank you below.
Dynamic Events tend to have a story with voiced NPC dialogues that give context to what's happening, and often the events line up to play out a larger narrative of the region you're in, providing the backstory of the world. Also, the outcome of a dynamic event can temporarily change the state of the world.
Though if you only plough through them to speed level the way people seem to do in XIV, you probably wouldn't notice any difference.

People love to chase carrots, and when they find a carrot they need another carrot to chase. They don't play MMO's because they are fun, they play them to acheive things.....virtual things. When they get one thing they start grinding for the next thing that will open up a chance to grind for another thing. After they grind for all their things they can park their toon in the busiest hub so everyone can look at their things which spawns all kinds of carrots for all to chase. Meanwhile that person is on the forums complaining that he/she ran out of carrots to chase and requires more.
Welcome to the modern day MMO.
Back in the day they were not just games, they were real living communities. Now they are glorified chatrooms.

No, unlike most MMOs, the gear is actually excellent, and the fact that a crafter can make high quality gear makes it better than equivalent gear drops statistically. You can buy it, on the market -- from crafters that made it, and line their pockets with Gil (mine have been lined quite a bit from some gear I have sold so far). Of course, there are BOP dungeon drops that are great, too, but they are random/RNG, and crafting will always be required to round out sets. Also, only a crafter can enhance an item (socket materia, which are like enchants). You need a crafter who can craft that specific item type at that gear level in order to socket the materia, and everyone wants materia socketed.

You make it sound like most people don't do it that way. Queensdale is worse for this activity than any zone I've seen in FF14. And I don't think anyone doing the Queensdale circuit is listening to the NPC dialog anymore.

This is the social aspect of it.
When people say social, I think many think "being sociable", whereas to me it means "people competing hardcore against each other", which is what any society is. MMOs are inherently competitive in this way -- even if it isn't direct/PvP competition. People compete with each other for virtual status, just like people compete with each other in life for real status. It isn't about "fun" like Donkey Kong, precisely because it is social. Social = competition for shinies and status.
I don't even like the game but, FFXI was no better.
I loved FFXI don't get me wrong, but I fell asleep in a party once and woke up the next day with 3 levels, and this was 55-58 which is a pretty long grind, that game took no skill at all to lvl in, if you had a ninja tank the entire party could just afk while he killed stuff.
I had that same situation happen more then once when I played. Ahh good times.
In War - Victory. In Peace - Vigilance. In Death - Sacrifice.
If people want a way to mindlessly grind levels fast all the power to them but fates should not be how it's done imo., guild leves and/or grand company quests should cover that. Fates should be something epic! Something that when they pop up you run to, not because your trying to level as fast as possible but because you know your in for a treat! If it were up to me I'd cut WAY back on the number of fates, one every few hours per zone at the max. They should be something out of the ordinary and require group communication. One idea I have would be something like a town gets hit by a ogre invasion, complete with catapults, ladders to scale the walls, and battering rams. The goal would be to kill the ogre warchief before they manage to break down the walls and capture the towns governor . This would force at least a little communication between players because some would have to kill the warchief and some would have to play d (think winter grasp from wow but a pve version) If you fail to defend the town you' would have access to quest or vendors and such till you manage to retake the town. Fates should be rare and feel epic!
i really don't see how it is any different to the camp/grind you spoke of from which you done in ff11 if i'm correct, the only difference is the level of difficulty and the exp gain, if they sit there camping fates then is that not exactly what we used to do in ff11? we would sit there is camp grind mobs? what is the actual difference, are you upset that these ppl are camping the fates and being boring? or are you upset that the level of difficulty and the exp gain is wrong?
I agree with alot that said these things should be epic, and yes they should but if they were to do that then yes they need to scale back on the respawns but i think they were added to help progress the 2nd classes along, sure maybe they could have added more quest to help remedy this but then we would all be here saying the quest are all the same blah blah.
Guild leve's are ok to grind but again mind numbingly boring after the 20th time e.t.c. so i don't see it as a problem other then yes i would like them a little tougher, more variations, and not so frequent so people will need to do other things to lvl up there classes but besides that i think they work perfectly for what they were intended for which is an alternative to grinding quest or leves.
FATES are pretty fun. I like them when I'm out doing leves, working on an off-class (when the quests for the zone are already finished w/ a higher level)... But honestly, I've spent a majority of my time on my WHM healing all sorts of dungeons for people. Duty finder queues are a pain for DPSers, and everybody needs a chocobo., so I do what I can.
I'm not a fan of the Fates thing and grew REALLY tired of Rifts when I played that game. However - they're not so overdone that you can't avoid them like Rifts.
There are some people who like the mindless of it so it caters to those people. I prefer to level up by doing the quests/dungeons and enjoying the story...but that's me.
Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.
