    1.  Fishing Guild is in Limsa Lominsa, lower decks.  It levels like any other gathering skill (quests every five levels, mostly give you upgraded fishing rods and some bait).  You can get additional bait from fieldcraft vendors and then later on the market.  Different bait for different water.

    2.  Selling on the market requires you to have a retainer.  You get that ability, IIRC, around level 15.  There is an NPC in the market area who will help you set up a retainer once you are that level.  The retainer acts as a combination storage unit and market seller.

Fishing guild is in Limsa - at the "fisherman's bottom".  They give you a starter rod and bait.  You can join at lvl 10.

I am a low level fisherman but I have been checking the market. There are some fish posted for a pretty high price so it looks like their is money to be made.

Ok i'm in the city Ul'dah ?!?  Anyway to get to that other city fast ?

If you do their quests they will provide you with bait and new rods. Also check the Limsa Market wards, there is a vendor that sells the most common bait (worms, crayfish balls, etc).

All areas have vendors that sell specific bait to that area. Rat tails you can get in Moraby Drydock (you want them for the quest).

Lures can be bought in higher level areas and are not lost on a catch. Sometimes however the line snaps and you will lose a Lure.

You need to do main story quest to get access to the airship or buy a rod at the AH/Markets. Ul'dah has a market ward and they sell rods there iirc. If you are on Sagantanas i can bring you one to Ul'dah.

I was raising fishing and culinary and found that after a certain level you dont have any recipes that use fish anymore.  That could change at higher level, but Ive heard rumors that fish are not really a part of the economy like other gathering stuff is.

Fishing is supposed to just be a "fun" activity to do. It is far from as integral to the economy compared to the other Gathering classes (miner and botanist).  That's is also a reason for why fishing has far less handholding and is a hell lot about exploration.

Let me find source for  my conclusion and I'll edit in the link.

    Edit:

Following the concept that I spoke about previously, the system is extremely simple, so please have a good time fishing at various areas as you fill in the map while you wait to be matched in the Duty Finder, or while waiting for your friends to log in. However, due to the fact that this system is simple, please understand that you will not be contributing to the economy despite being a Disciple of the Land. The fishing system of FFXIV: ARR is there to have fun challenging and interacting with the nature found throughout Eorzea.

How do you even manage to level culinary without losing a hell lot of money? On my server, the prices for food are extremely low in the market boards. It is like the only crafting class that drains a hell lot of my money; alchemy is almost as bad too.

Armorer/Blacksmith can get healthy income with Iron Ingots.

Goldsmith can get healthy income with Brass Ingots.

Weaver can get healthy income with Cotton Yarn and Undyed Cotton Cloth.

Leatherworker is soso; the "aldgoat skin" material costs a hell lot to buy; but haven't really checked how much you can sell the leathergear for.

Carpenter is rather meh currently; elm lumber is not selling as well as the Ingots and Cloths; and if you buy Elm Logs through the market, you'll only get the exp but no gold profit XD.

You need to get a retainer (slave character) from your Grand Company first.  You summon them with the service bell or whatever and tell them what to put on the market.

Right now there is major money to be made in any form of tier 3 gathering.  Tons of money to be made in crafting even tier 1 gear for alts.

Everyone seems to be crafting and gathering to support their crafting and gathering so theres a void in the market that will be filled soon...those who are farther ahead are making a killing ( I spent nearly all my GIL buying a few normal gear upgrades...I needed it desperately so I paid the huge mark ups)

Fishing and cooking compliment each other nice.  You can cook baits to fish with, and cook fish you catch.

You will eventually need to get a gathering skill that gets you elemental shards to continue crafting (cooking included) however...unless you buy them off the market.

Culinarian is not really money making at the moment.  Fishing provides lower level mats for culinarian but at the higher levels it does phase out.  Most of the mats for culinarian are found by hunting.  This happens with other areas as well, which tends to create market opportunities.

For example, diremite webs are required to craft velveteen items for weaver, but they are dropped only by mid level diremites and above (at any reasonable drop rate).  And those mobs are being farmed to beat the band, but there aren't many of them, so the price of diremite webs on my server varies from a 250-350 per item (not per stack), and some people are getting rich off of this.  At the same time, some weavers are opting to weave around this, so to speak, by powering through with lower level cotton-based recipes, which is driving up the price of cotton mats (bolls, yarn, cloth) on the market as well.  There are opportunities to make an absolute CRAP ton of Gil right now if you pay attention to the market and the needs of various crafts, because some things are in very short supply and therefore are spurring high demand both for themselves and for other substitute type items.

It's an eldorado at the moment in the markets.

Oh my god, you really have thought about this far more than I have, hahaha :).

Unfortunely, my "earning gil" mission is on lower priority compared to my "craft absolute every gear for my lancer at HQ quality as he levels up", so can't really play the market as good as you can XD.

I am sitting on a healthy amount of gil I think? lv21 highest level but with 80k gil in bank. Logged off for today and sitting on laptop. Your argument did explain why cotton was being so sought, it was and is fcking ridiculous.

I recently finished doing a list of exactly all gear I need at the different levels from 15 to 50. Now I suppose my next task is to create a viable leveling path for each of my crafting classes. I may be forced to grind my weaver with cotton too D:.

    It's all good.

Was playing all day on my day off today (and yes I logged off when I finished), but you're in good shape -- the great part is that the game lets you prioritize what you want to.

I have not focused on making a market killing, because I prefer to do other things.  But I can't help but notice the opportunity when I see it.  :)
