So from launch day 'til now, the only day I haven't played was Labor Day. (and that was partial SE, mostly me having stuff to do)
Tonight, logged in and spent the night in Copperbell... what a fun little picnic that was. There isn't anything NEW about them, but I feel like I actually contribute (other than the usual stand here, activate this, turn around 3 times). I dunno. I like the story, and it's getting more interesting the more a-hero'ing I go.
We'll have to see. You figure 6 days of play time and I'm only level 19. I'm not fate-levelling, I'm just taking my time enjoying the scenery.
I think what frustrates me the most is the sort of cavalier attitude towards these things, like we all should expect nowadays that games will be buggy and not expected to run well for atleast week or a month. Given these economic times and FTP games getting better, companies that expect a monthly charge should be bending over backward to have the smoothest launch possible even if that takes having too much bandwidth and working a little extra overtime.
You can say XX game was worse, but there were some seriously bad choices made on this one which have nothing to do with technical problems.
Hmm ok then let me ask you this...Did you have any notion that the game was going to be so popular after the initial release?
If you didn't then guess what, they probably didn't either. Sure you can say the should have known by the pre orders...but as has been pointed out most people probably bought the game the week before release OR the day of release.
And to answer your question..Yes I do expect most if not all of the new mmo's coming out to experience bugs and issues due to the fact that closed and open betas are nothing compared to opening the gates during full release. I'm sure that they will fix the game's problems with log ins and AFK'ers, as they have a large stake with their claims of subs being a viable option.
And I wonder...what F2P game is coming out that will compete with this and other sub based games coming out? I haven't seen any new F2P titles that caught my attention or that are already out dated because of being released else where but here in the west.
Yes I did think this was going to be popular, it's Final Fantasy.... and if no one at Square could forecast sales, then that's kinda scary. Even if they didn't, you would think they'd pull out all the stops. Oh well, I know I'm not going to sway your views but as consumers we shouldn't be complacent with poor judgement and say this is the norm.
That being said, I did finally able to log into the server I initially made my first character after 3 days and play for a decent amount of time, And my second character on a less busy server I managed to spend more time playing than logging in. The game is fun!
SE has not started to charge anyone a subscription yet and has even extended the free period, so as far as I am concerned, I can wait for them to get their poop together. If you want to play a game with few problems, wait until 1 month after launch. I have not played a single AAA MMO that has launched smoothly to date (and I have played prety much every major title out there).
Why are you guys still here whining and debating this? I have been on the server ALL DANG DAY!. Was there some error 3102 ? yup and if you had any patience and waited 10-15 minutes boom you would have been back on the game playing also. Instead you found what you were looking for, negativity. Go play another game, go fishing go out with the family. If this game is not to your liking or their service is not to your liking then GO. No body cares if you dont like it.

By that logic, why do you waste time reading these posts? Just wondering...

Every issue they're experiencing is a direct result of not having proper stress testing through beta. On top of having OB only days before EA/launch.
