I'm playing on two desktop machines atm, one is really old it ran the game fine on high laptop settings. After the patch i had to drop it to the lowest (standard laptop) i think, it made it playable but still didn't run as well as before.

The high end machine doesn't even break a sweat with it completely maxed out, no change after patch.

Also this is a wee bit of a pain and more of a FYI for other players, things like your Outfit saves are saved locally, like the characters you create, also your hotbar setup is saved locally as well, other things too (not coming to mind atm).

Anyway this makes switching boxes a real PITA and something to consider possibly backing up if your so inclined in case of a HD failure or a machine scrub, new machine or whatever.

Pretty much all MMO's save HUD data locally. So any customisation you do in the UI / HUD will be lost when you reinstall Your OS without backup.

I can't remember the last mmo that ever did that? Sure maybe general layout, but hotbar spells, character data is always saved on the server. Been playing mmo's on 2 to 4 boxes for better part of decade, this was jarring.

I had the opposite experience with performance. Before the patch I was getting 10 fps on max settings with a high-end rig even in places where there were not many other players around. I had to set to absolute lowest settings just to get 30 fps. After the patch I cranked it back up to max and I'm now getting 60 fps on average.

I was surprised by the pre-patch performance considering all the posts I read that the game ran so smoothly.

Hmmm, maybe something else is up with my box.

There must be millions of possible hardware and software combinations found "in the wild". It's not surprising that one PC user sees an improvement post-patch whilst another sees worse performance.

I noticed no change in performance, it still runs smooth as butter on my rig.

    RIFT saves HUD locally.

    DAOC saved HUD locally.

    LOTRO saves HUD locally.

    SWTOR saves HUD locally.

    StarTrek Online saves HUD locally.

    I could go on...

I've played all those so yes they do save character settings to server.

I think people are not understanding what i'm saying. Sure general hud layout is "NOT" saved due to monitors and such.

Let me explain this another way.

If i were to say put the "Flaming Death of Lightning" on slot one of hotbar one, and i go to any other machine and log in, the "Flaming Death of Lightning" is there on hotbar one slot one.

Hmm I can't remember if UO saved the set up locally or not.  I know SWG did becuase I had several different machines through the life of that game and the 3 different versions of it.  SWTOR, I never really switched machines.

As far as performance goes here; I had got on Tuesday night on my laptop which early on in the week, I had set the graphics down from Laptop High to whatever it was and it was fine but it was laggy for some reason this tuesday night and the settings were still turned down.  So I took the downtime to upgrade my Nvidia drivers and last night, I was in there with laptop high and as smooth as can be.

World is even more amazing now that I updated drivers.  Have to be careful or I will be like Chris Griffin chasing a butterfly out into the wilderness and get lost.  Actually almost did just that out doing my lady bug and squirrel slaying.  Just so many quests, everywhere!

Yes MMO's have been saving character data to the server for what seems like forever. Yes i was playing SWG on two machines at the time too, i think that was about when i first started having the luxury of having more than one machine able to run and play games on.

Maybe they will change this down the road. Right now it's not a huge deal early on but if i make a tweak on one box and forget on the other and things are intense, ouch. I might end up running this on up to 4 to 6 boxes, just depends on where i am. I play where ever the fam is, so i'm not the cave dweller Dad, lol.

The biggest PITA is the saved gear sets, that's a PITA way beyond any hotbar layouts.

Although i'm not a fan of invisible walls they are not bugging me in this game for some reason and i can't count the times it's probably saved my life doing the Chris Griffin and running straight off a cliff.

Actually the last thing i did on that old box was update the drivers, chit, should have left well enough alone.

I've been asking around about this as well.  But mostly I noted my FPS dip low MOSTLY in cities.  Running a couple different cards on Desktop and laptop.  Both end up with similar issues.

Running 30-35FPS.  Consistently.  Sometimes dipping into the 25-30.  Enter a city?  10-15.  Change settings from high to low.  Same FPS numbers as running in high though the graphics is inferior.  Both on my Desktop (GTX 560Ti) and Laptop (650M GT).  Don't remember that before the maint but I play on my PS3 most often... so I couldn't say for sure.

I started lagging and getting fewer fps as well. I just figured it was because there were more people on the server at once...

FPS dropped for me a bit too. The real issue is what is going on on screen is a bit more laggy up from about .25sec behind to .5sec. Odin fight was tricky enough getting out of the blue corridor of death without having the time to do so reduced by latency and server load. A shame the combat is not 'crisper'.

I thought this might be why too, but there were far more players concentrated in the cities during the first few days. Last night, it was busy but nothing like the first few days.

One thing i did notice different. I usually log out in the inn, i like that. When i left the inn i was all alone i had the city to myself which was pretty cool, so i ran around, after at least 5 minutes i saw my first player, then another, then nothing for a little bit more, then a couple more so i stayed there and watched players coming in but it was very slow.

EDIT: Without the players there it was laggy.

The combat is a bit sluggish.. That is a problem and I'm no where near Odin yet. Maybe they'll 'fix' it.

I have actually gotten better FPS myself.  Just did the first dungeon and it was pretty smooth....  My noob self even managed to tank without losing anybody.  image

afaik, They have addressed this , and confirmed that they will add an option to save settings on the server side.

That's good to know, Thanks for posting that. The gear set is the biggest issue.
