I've bought 2 from key resellers, which is a legit practice, and have been playing since pre-release.
My situation was that Amazon.com canceled my preorders from them due to my CC company being morons. So i was tuck in the "No sorry, we won't sell any more keys until SE tells us" situation.
So i went on google, searched around for 15minutes, and found SEVERAL key resellers selling NA/EU/JP PC keys in both collector's edition and normal.
I'm not 100% on whether linking to these sites are allowed here, so i'm just saying you should try actually googling.
These aren't rip-off sites as they're making a profit by marking up keys they bought and collected to resell. I think it's like a 5 or 10% markup, but that's fine and dandy for roughly a 30minute email delivery.
Some of them can be annoying with their confirmation calls/sms to keep from being scammed, and i had issues with one or two not having an SMS system that worked, but then i found one that called me instead and that was fine other than having a hard time understanding someone who normally is used to speaking chinese !
That aside, why are you still waiting to play? Keys are out there, go fine them!

[edit]: Forgot to mention i've bought 3 keys for family members over the past 2days from said site. Talked to Customer Service from SE about their legitimacy and they said although they don't condone purchase from these sites as they can, <insert compromise your account statement, that the keys were purchased legitimately and will always be valid. I should mention that so long as you purchase as a "guest" or with account info completely different from your SE/game accounts you're 100% fine.

??? scuse me
Am I NOT allowed to provide advice on these forums?
While some of those might be legit and safe, I am certain a lot more aren't. They ask for your phone number and every personal info they can get to better scam you.
Then you have people wondering how in hell they could get their account hacked ...
I got mine from greenman gaming, it was preorder though, and it was 25% off, so i only paid like18 euro, i believe they are still selling.
Edit: ok it seems they are out
http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/dk/en/pc/games/mmos/final-fantasy-xiv-realm-reborn/
but i'm guessing they'll open up again once they are happy with the server situation.
I've purchase from the same key reselling for the past 3years, and i've always used fake information, and then paid with my paypal account. They never see any of my personal info as all of it goes through paypal's side.
It just takes a bit of common sense not to enter personal information, and not to pay a dime unless they have systems in place to confirm your order (like sms messaging, or calling you to confirm at order). Also, paying through paypal gaurantees that if it is a scam paypal will get your money back.
I always wait 12 to 24hrs for a purchase to be delivered before filing a claim against such sites i don't trust for the first time.
The following is my resource that I've used for the past 3years, they generally don't list scam sites. Again, I promote the practice of providing false personal information:

Trying to find the site I used from that list for the 5 key purchases i've made.
[edit]:
http://www.allcdkey.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV.html
This is the site I used for my 5 NA standard edition purchases post-digital sales stoppage.
Mind you this is just where I bought my legit keys. Although their site seems a bit low-key they've never scammed me once, but that's just my experience.
ps: Seems like their EU keys got vaporized as they had quite a few prior to people posting their site on forums over the past week.
You been using a services that keep charging you more for the same product ?
Prior to the mess with FF, what other incentive would there ever be to buy from them ?? You were buying beta key ? I don't see any valid reason to go thru such services...
-I've never bought a Beta Key for anything, where did I ever say that?
-I'm a multiboxer, and some companies just have terrible automated systems that restrict you to 1 or 2 boxes. Not because they don't want you multiboxing, but because they didn't have the forethought that someone might want to purchase more than 2 boxes, ever, for a single product.
-Anarchy Online was like this, as was a couple others i've played in the past. Most notably DAOC, when they sold time cards, didn't want you buying more than one time card at a time from the Origin store. So my CC company would freak with their anti-fraud system on my card thinking someone was mass-buying stuff and would constantly lock me down since the Origin store only allows 1x purcahse at a time. Sites like these let me do x6 or x4 at a time, etc etc.
-EvE time cards?
-Time cards in general? They aren't just full product retailers.
-Sometimes products are banned in your region, or aren't there yet but you'd like to play. Australia and Germany are good cases in this.
-Also, some versions are different than others for specific regions, again, Australia and Germany wanting NA copies is a very good example.
I could literally go on for hours. To be honest you sound very sheltered
hehe I am not sheltered at all, I just don't see the need to use those services. The simple fact that you feel the need to give em false information is proof enough that those are fishy business.
I never bought time cards, and I never had troubles with my credit cards either..
Would prolly be less trouble to just drive to any gaming store and buy dozens of times cards tho ...
Where do you live where local stores stock anything PC related anymore?
Gamestop is now consoles only, as is walmart or walmart only stocks old PC games or the most popular.
Haven't seen PC GTC's, or even boxes for new releases, in ANY local stores here in Georgia, USA for the past 5years.
Also, just because I promote false information to businesses online is not a 1:1 relation to them being "fishy". I'm just cautious, and so should anyone on the internet be. Even auto-insurance companies I provide false information for online-tool quotes simply for the sake of information protection. They say they won't resell it, but at the end of the day you really never know.
Just because YOU haven't had a need for said services doesn't discredit them bud. Just saying...
[edit]: I forgot to mention that every walmart within a 25mile radius of me does NOT have FF14 boxes in-stock. I checked, lol and i'm not willing to drive further than 25miles for a game's box.
You mentioned AO and DAoC, when I played those games, there was plenty of game cards in store. But last time I went to a game store I saw pretty much every newly released pc games boxes.
I live in Montreal Canada, not many people have unlimited download so a lot of people still buy boxes.
Also is there something stopping em from taking over your account ? They are the original owner and probably have receipt to prove it. Would not be unheard of, a lot of people did it after selling their account in EQ.
Yeah this or no game is THAT great to where my life requires me to pay more than retail for a key. I have a life and am not desperate. I do want to play, but to risk anything. FF14 isn't air/food/shelter and is not required to make my life complete.
so to answer your question. yeah it smells bad!
How do you use fake information and then expect a call for confirmation? Man lies beget lies.
I can prove bill of sale from them, so if they try to take it from me I can prove to SE they sold it to me and they'd secure my account to me and restore it. I had this happen from a key I bought at WALMART of all places. Someone had opened the box prior, taken a pic of the key, and then resealed it.
Proved i bought it from walmart, and SOE (an EQII key btw) locked the account, restored it, and sent it back to me with a new key associated with it that only I could prove i owned.
All companies do this that have a shred of customer service policy. Even Darkfall Online does this.
Furthermore, there's nothing wrong with these keys. There's a demand, and they're perfectly allowed to markup by 5%. Seriously, $44 is nothing compared to 39.95 that can't be sold to you. I'd pay the $4.05 to play now.
[mod edit]
When i say to use fake information I was OBVIOUSLY referring to your street address, name, DOB, etc.
When they ask for your phone number put your real one for the confirmation call. They'll ask if you ordered X item, you say yes, they ask for your email, you confirm it, done.
The stuff they need to steal accounts are your REAL NAME, Address, and DOB, Account Name, and Password. You don't need those for an order.
Obviously you use a temp account name/pass if you cannot checkout as a "Guest".
Common sense next time Mr.Tinfoil Hat
I agree with Bear.
I am a big Mulitboxer as well, and I always try and buy 4-6 keys online. They always sell them cheaper and it always better than paying retail. Even some sites online was sold at first and I did try to buy locally and every Walmart was out for me as well for 30miles, but then I checked back to one of my key shops online and they had more for sale
I am so good, I backstabbed your face!
