Doesn't really matter if this game is a huge success or not

If you look at FFXI, how long it has been running, how many expansions it was given, and the fact it is still sub based, I honestly could care less if this game is a huge success, breaks records or whatever. Square Enix  is an old company and cares more about reputation and legacy than quick cash grab like other video game companies so I am confident that we are still going to get constant improvements/updates/ and a solid community even when all the 1-month MMORPG kiddies leave the game. I actually cant wait until these temp players leave so then I can find the "true" guilds and linkshells out there.

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

Don't forget about the PS3 player's. I believe this game will have very healthy population number's.

No matter what it will likely always have a healthy enough playerbase of the people who love both final fantasy and mmorpg's equally, and thats enough for me :)

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.

Watching Towelliee's stream today, there seemed to be a lot of people who are still waiting to be able to purchase the game too, judging by the chat.  It doesn't really -matter- if the playerbase is big like ya said...but I think it will be quite healthy.

    ^This.

In my opinion the PS3 is pretty much what has kept DCuniverse online going strong. Final Fanatsy is going to be alot of console players first REAL MMO with deep crafting and cooperative team play in pve. Combine this with the fact the PC crowd has embraced the game and you have a very, very healthy population.

Huh?  Maybe it is just the beer injecting optimism, but I have great confidence that this is sarcasm.

I've gotten engrossed into Warframe again due to the issues getting into FFXIV. Have those issues been alleviated?

As to the comment about the PS3 players being all children.  That's not true I know plenty of PS3 owners that are adults and choose not to own a PC or at least not one designed for gaming because they're not interested in PC gaming.

If they cared about reputation and legacy, they wouldn't have released FFVIII, X, X-2, XI, XII, and especially XIII. FFXIV is the first game in the series I've actually enjoyed in a long time. Hopefully it's the start of an upward trend for the FF series, although something tells me it probably isn't.

He's right.  We should be careful what we wish for.  A healthy population may turn out to be a blessing, and a curse.  FFXIV may end up with a large player base, but if ends up reflecting the WOW player base ... you can have it.  Complaints are already beginning to pour in from loyal long time Final Fantasy fans regarding the rude and overall donkey butt behavior plaguing many of the servers as we speak.  Truth be told, I've witnessed it myself while doing some of the dungeons.  Only time will tell.  Hopefully, its a small minority just running out their free time.  I really hope that we don't get the WOW mentality in this community.  That would be sad.

Just because you didn't like the game doesn't mean it wasn't any good.  Last time I checked XI is still alive.  If it was as bad as you say don't you think they would have pulled the plug and kill the money sink?  I know plenty of people that enjoyed X, X-2, and XII as well.  I for one enjoyed XII though it's not my favorite.  Will admit though I couldn't really get into XIII, but I'm a rabid Final Fantasy fan so I bought XIII, XIII-2 CE, and will probably buy Lightning Returns...

The #1 reason why I will stay and support this game is because of the people behind it. With them its not about money but all about just making a quality game that people will enjoy playing. I see this game different from most people. What I see is a foundation that will be built upon. Of course everything is not here but what is here is beautiful and a breath of fresh air. I feel adventure again and I have not felt that in years. Cant wait to see how they continue to develop the game.

While I'm sure what you say is true I think they still care about money :P.  It just so happens the best way to get money in this industry is make great games (who would have guessed with the mmo market).

Disagree. FF has often been about mixing new with classic. Just watch the step from FFVI to FFVII. FFVIII was  a good follow-up to FFVII. Same goes for X, X-2 and XII. Didn't play XIII yet XD.

Sure they care about the money, they are a business after all. However, they are not prepared to get rid of all their scruples to earn cash; that's why I prefer them over let's say Mythic/EA.

I <3 FF8. 14... Bores the hell out of me. But I'm just tired of the old style combat and slow feeling of everything. Waiting for Wildstar believe it or not. Ps3 will keep FF14 alive for a good amount of time I'm sure.

Yeah I wouldn't go putting SE on the pedestal just yet. I loved FFXI and I am enjoying XIV since they patched it and I can actually play. But let's not paint SE as a company that is infallible and are concerned with their reputation over selling a product because they have been running the FF name into the ground and milking it rather than expanding on it. Here is a pretty good article on where the company has been going with the name and I think he makes a lot of valid points.  http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/07/final-fantasy-is-dead/

I'd also add that I love how so many defensive posters resort to insults to make their opinions more valid than others. Those "kiddies" have invested in the coffers for the future updates and if some are upset and leave after the first month then I can respect that seeing as how I am in a LS where we have a few members capped on jobs already. That to me is a design issue and I will not fault peoples opinions if they think the game doesn't warrant their continued sub payments. Feel free to call them (possibly me if the game doesn't get better) kiddies though.

RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and Paul Gray.

All I got from the article is that he's complaining about ample breast...which isn't new in anyway shape or form.

He's got it right about the FF xiv mess up though.

Wrong, because it is. It's #1 priority for any company out there.

    This.

Every company is in it for money. I don't know what uptopia people live in where money isn't number one priority for companies.

Totally disagree, if this was true every mmo would be free to play with a pay to win cash shop.

dont forget the PS4 players. At least for me that will be the longer term platform for this game.

Free to play is more of a normal model in Asia. Has the game even been released in Japan yet?

Just like ffxi before it, this game will find its niche and do just fine.

It's probably not going to break any records, but I don't really care.

Forgot about Final Fantasy XI. A clear example of a game that could have easily been converted over to a free to play game if they really wanted to make more money but they did not. They are happy with the niche player base that is has.

They even let people play Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 for free while the fix the game. They let everybody that owned the original game not have to buy the new game. Gave them 14 days of free time to try out the new game to see if they like it. Gave legacy status to people that stuck with the 1.0 game and now they only have to pay $9.99 a month for the new game instead of $15 a month. These are the reasons why I support this company and will support Final Fantasy Reborn.
