I'm really curious about knowing more about Guild Wars. I am excited to hear it is a lot like diablo or dungeon siege but im questioning whether it compares to the longevity of Diablo? Although i do not play diablo 2 still currently, i certinaly would still enjoy it despite the outdated graphics. Games like diablo are amazingly entertaining and last well beyond it's release. Although Guild Wars is really fun from what i hear and is heavy in pvp, which is my favorite aspct of online games, i'm curious if it has the fun factor to last years.
I guess my primary concern is once you are level 20, when all the best content is at your finger tips, is it as addictive as previous rpg's? The combat does look fun and more fast paced comapred to all the other mmo's, but i still find myself skeptical that it is as quality as a blizzard game. I have been a huge fan of blizzard for many years, and i absolutely love the warcraft, diablo, and star craft series. When World of warcraft hit the scene i was excited, but as i played for 2 - 3 months or so it really got boring. I also was pissed that the best content was at level 40 and above. None of the classes kept my interest for very long and i found myself boucing around from class to class. Not only that but i got ridiculous when a 60 rogue would jump me when i was grinding....grinding is frustrating enough without a rogue. Anyhow i cancelled my account and i am never going to pay monthly for any game again unless it can produce some regular and quality content.
I didnt feel the excitment of diablo 2 when i played WoW.... after all taking on 1 or 2 creeps at a time isn't very intense. From what i have read, GW is more similiar to diablo in ways of the pve fighting. You can take on 3, 4, even 5 creeps at equal level at a time. What im more concerned with though is the combat, is it intense and how does it compare to WoW combat? Currently WoW is the most exciting combat system for any MMO, im curious if GW compares or exceeds WoW?
Another question, is GW pvp: rewarding, challenging, strategic, and varied? Do you find yourself in many different situations in the pvp or is it repetative? I can see arena fighting being pretty straight forward slug-fest where warrior/monks dominate over any of the ranged or magic classes. The strategic objective pvp does sound great though and i can see a variety of classes really coming together as a team to defend or attack a fort or whatever the fight takes place. Since the game revolves around pvp, can any class shine in pvp? I hear a paladin build is really dominating the game for the most part. I myself am planning on going pure necromancy, will i be effective and deadly in pvp?
Although diablo 2 onlien was fun for pvp, it definetly wasn't it's primary focus, team pve was. Therefore is guild wars guild pve any good? Does it have the fast paced fighting, team work, and chaos to make you want more? Do you ever find yourself fighting a small army of charr or demons? Are there challenging bosses to fight? Does each class shine in a group or are certian classes better for groups than others?
So my final question is, does this game have what it takes to last for years? Obviously expansions will help with this but i hope they will stick with level 20 cap and just make more exciting content for the pvp and pve world. If not i really can pass up the hype and wait for something with real quality.
Just a question that i wanted to throw out to everyone. When you reach max level in a rph, do you feel like a champion where the most choatic and epic battles are fought, and you do not have the desire or need to grind or level to feel any sort of accomplishment? Once you hit the highest level character in any mmo, shouldn't you feel all the best days are now ahead of you instead of behind you. Instead of wanting to start all over again from level 1, do you feel attached to your character and feel like a hero that has mastered their skills and no longer is working their way up but are at a pinnacle and can effect the world dramatically? That is how i want to feel in Guild Wars, i don't want to level anymore from 20.
Sorry for all the questions but i hope i can get soem honest view-points on these issues. I also hope answers will benefit others with the same questinos on their mind who are debating to buy a new rpg.
