Its a sandbox that gives players customization freedom. When I played in the Korean version, I saw some things and I just turned away from them. No more attention needed to be directed to it. Hell in alot of MMOs I have played, I have seen racist, sexist and really bad conversations going on in chat................I just ignore it.......if it was out of hand, report it and move on.

Im not going to boycott a game because it gives people the tools to do something they want with their house. Or if they want to play on the beach in bathing suits or go racing on cars. I wont be there most likely..........and if I ever decide to wind down and just have some fun........i'll go join them for a little bit, then pop back out and go do the stuff I like.

Freedom........its what Sandbox games are about.

I agree with you, very valid words towards a sandbox.

Did they not lock off outsiders to the Korean beta?  mmorpg seems to have quite a few members, who have seemed to play in the Korean version of the game.

Anyway, turning a blind eye towards certain things, would of course work for most. Having sports cars, and Starbucks does not ruin it for me at all personally, having them in the game most likely won't bother many, as long as they aren't in all of the game, like many who have played have said. This is great insight to those like me who have not gotten a chance to get a taste of the game. Thank-You!

It is a sandbox first and foremost, and having additional things such as a sports car,  could spawn something different, and make things so much more fun in the game. Nobody can really complain about having more features, as it would seem you have to have your images approved before they are uploaded for boats specifically, not too sure about houses.

Thanks for your valid input, don't forget to use the poll. =)

Wasn't following this game closely but thanks for the info. Now I know to give it a miss. Cheers OP!

ArcheAge was on my radar...then they added...

XL I thought was producing a good medieval/high fantasy type MMO - instead they are producing a K-pop version of Second Life.  So yeah...I'll pass.

Honestly I will wait and see, after the fail this game is quickly becoming in Korea I am really kinda over the hype of it all.

Lately Korean's have been a fairly accurate judge of a game's merits.

Basically its like the old " Let's get Mikey to eat it he will eat anything.. "

If Korean's won't eat it I"ll be damned if I will.

I dare them to put in Gundam vs Voltron vs Miku vs Longcat vs Full Metal Chemical Engineer...

I Kawaii™ dare them to do it.

It has all the cool features and on top gives players many means to live out their creativity.

This must be the golden age of MMORPG's revived. The time which games have been made with fun in mind and with a twinkle in the eye.

It reminds me alot on one of the best MMORPG's of all times SWG PRE CU  just in different settings.

    bring this gem on ...baby

bring it for the real vets and expert gamers  that founded this genre and let the "new player generation" enjoy  the rest of  these uninspired shooters that release daily lol

    I don't care!

There are many strange games out there, some immersive, some not. BUT.. if it is fun and I enjoy my playtime and feel that I get my moneys worth, then I will play it.

I am playing Archeage in Korea and even paying over $30/Month for the priviledge and I dont care. I get my moneys worth and have many enjoyable evenings.

The NA/EU version will not have separate servers for pvp/pve. Forget it. The game is structured for a mix of both playtypes on one server BUT for you carebears out there, it is quite possible to level, quest, craft and have good times without coming into contact with any pvp. You may find that you want to though..

You can please some MMO-players all of the time and you can please all MMO-players some of the time but you can't please all MMO-players all of the time.

Such as creating guilds, and taking territory, having things run by the players, for the players. and true in archeage we may have sports cars, and hawaii and superman shirts, but we also have Lord of the rings, Game of thrones, Hunger games, Player made content! - Legions of armies formed, to either rule the seas, or the lands. Guilds claiming territory, while waving lannister flags, or even underwear flags if you will.  Archeage is a game to look forward too, with the most epic roleplaying we may ever see. It depends on the houses that represent. Imagine representing a certain trading company, or perhaps those douche lannisters that always pay their debts. Here is a link to a fan made guild trailer, which shows off the level of epicness you can really get in this game. Below is a trailer of a guild in archeage called "The Black Storm Legion!" Comment by Crusader - //This is a guild, making a video that showcases their conquering of the new content in the game. Inadvertently it shows how awesome ArcheAge is!//http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqWqk3UXncMThe below is a picture which id label as an immersion killer, including hawaii shirts, and sports cars, to coca cola vending machines. it is a slight immersion-murderer, maybe developers are plotting to ruin the game, which we each have set our gaze upon, and it goes even beyond that. Players themselves are allowed to upload images as textures to customize the house that they own. But if you can look past the players uploading pictures of adult related images to customize a house they created. Then you get the link above and think as you should, players are both the reason why this game can be amazing, and can also be why the game is less than stellar. That trailer shows off, the true epic feeling that you can get in this game....Themeparks and sandboxes and starbucks? - OH MY! Where do you stand with archeage, are you looking forward to it? or did the hawaii shirts/sports cars/anime-soft porn house textures/images ruin it for you?// Thank you for taking the time to visit this page, it's really been a long time since iv made a thread!  //Almost 2-years!!!//-POLL: DO YOU STILL WANT TO GIVE ARCHEAGE A TRY, AFTER HEARING ALL THIS?
No clue. It may be disappointing for me or it may not, after seeing all the disasters lately, this is the closest It's going to get to solid sandbox mmorpg for a long time. Mine as well keep my mind open and hope for the best. Who knows maybe this goofy shit will make for a memorable experience? God what the fuck is wrong with the MMORPG industry now....

Never fear, your dream MMO will be here....

ArcheAge always had and always will have steampunk elements. You rage about the car now, where were you when ArcheAge had the tractor since..ever? It's basically the same thing!

While these treads keep popping up about the same petty silly concerns about immersion breaking RPG elements, I must laugh because as I approach my 9 month mark, AA remains the most immersive MMO I have ever played by a very wide margin. In fact I would say immersion is AA's strongest trait and those whom feel these petty things effect that whatsoever won't take long to change their tune if they ever swallow their pride long enough to actually see for themselves.

I'll probably still play on a regular server since I like variety. But for dedicated RP'ers, AA is the game you should be looking to.

Old school gamers who dismiss this title because of sensational threads are doing themselves a disservice.

    The virtual world is AMAZING.

I trust Trion will make sure RP Players are taken care of, Trion has earned my trust much more than most Devs/Publishers.

The problem is AA is a Eastern MMO.... and I have a problem understanding/comprehending/feeling comfortable with any Eastern. "It's not them, it's me" is a phrase that fits. Also I really don't believe an Eastern MMO can actually be westernized. I am not a racist, but I now where my shortcomings are.

So like so many other Eastern MMOs, even if they are great in the eyes of many of you, it will not be played by me. It's better that way for the players of ArcheAge.

    1. this is not at all unusual for asian mmo's.

    2. it used to break immersion for me until it became obvious that most of the game's population wasn't concerned with immersion by the way they named their characters and the way they played the game.

If i cant put anime posters inside my house, and have all those fun extra stuff the Korean version has, they wont see my money.

Immersion is part of the main story, not the optional stuff. I wont accept censored content and be charged for it.

i think its awesome, and as u all say its fantasy, u can have unicorns or aliens or sports cars, who cares, its fantasy, im gonna sooo play this
  • NaralNaral Member UncommonPosts: 748

Meh, it doesnt destroy the game for me completely, but it does temper my excitement, for sure.

What is more likely, is that you will have to pay to put that art on your walls, and pay to do pretty much everything, given the free to play marketplace etc. This is the sort of thing they will use to make revenue, that is a bigger concern to me than what people put on their sails and walls. How much will it cost to do? How much will it cost to build the house?

The F2P aspect with a cash shop will drive me away from this before anything else will.

  • SiugSiug Member UncommonPosts: 1,257
This is disgusting. I don't play Asian MMOs but thought some time ago that I may try AA. Now I won't touch it even if paid.

Well we and myself included keep asking for more realistic worlds.Well guess what,if you walk down your street, you will most likely find 20 different cultures with tons of variation in life styles.

You might see pink Volkswagon,a Jeep a Corvette and a 300 and a Civic. One house might have Reggae cranked all day while another is playing Led Zeppelin. Some kids might be wearing Kaki's while others are in denim shorts and others in dress pants. Some kids might be tossing a Frisbee while others are playing street hockey. You enter one house and might be psychedelic wallpaper while another is rustic or wooden panel board.

Point is you would expect to see totally different ideas in real life,so you should expect the same in a game world.Game worlds just tend to go with a theme,it is easier and more recognizable.

Breaking immersion is when you see things like mobs appearing out of thin air or instances that remove the rest of the game world.Another one that looks dumb is fighting a Lion for example and it drops a great axe weapon, must be one super skilled Lion.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

There is a massive difference in seeing different cars and hearing different music.

Imagine walking down the street, and seeing a castle being besieged by sailing ships with black powder cannons, then imagine a bunch of guys and gals in speedos and bikinis and Hawaiian shirts rolling up in gold plated hot rods. How does that *not* break your immersion?

Immersion to me is being enticed in the gaming world, and feeling like you're in the fantasy world. A world full of strange and unfamiliar things, an experience if you will. Although currently we have a limited view on these dream worlds, and only snippets of unfamiliar escape from the real world. One example time this has happened to me, was when I first watched World of Warcraft opening cinematic screen, or when I made an undead character and ran through the zombie mobs and enjoyed the view, that was considered breathtaking for me back in 2004. *(Those were the days!)*

Planetside 2 is another great immersion example, the feeling of being apart of a massive fleet, truly epic feelings arise when you're surrounded by teammates. We only have snippets of such immersion, that bring us out of this shitty world we live in, and the crappy jobs we must wake up to each day to live on. Have you ever been immersed in a game, even if its just for a moment. Have you ever felt like you were a merchant whose goal is to hunt for riches, and rule the marketplace, or perhaps a mighty warrior who is known for destroying others for being such a good dedicated player, aka. having a name in such world amongst others.

At one point we all love roleplaying, and while you can say you never once felt like a warrior, or a merchant. It's the little bits of immersion, that really keep me pumped and going in some games. Have you once stopped in the middle of a live marketplace full of other players questing, and realized each person around you is on a task. Maybe even the exact same task your on, they could be anyone, and anywhere. The most interesting and exciting part, is who are the people walking around you, what is his or her life like? what if you walked up and said hi to one of them? what if that person you said hi to you in return and both of you decides to create a guild together, and do more immersive things, and bring the game further to life.

Although these rarely happen, and most players don't care for immersion, and that is why we have the Oculus Rift incoming. TO FORCE IMMERSION Although what you said at the top quote can be immersion breaking, to me it sounds more like a bug.

    -------------------------+ + OCULUS RIFT IMMERSION + +-------------------------

The oculus rift will be the leading device that brings a revolution to immersion, and while we may not have it in archeage, you can be 50% sure, that future of MMO's will have such immersion paired together with an oculus rift. Have you ever watched any oculus rollercoaster videos? - Yep. That's how immersed we will be around 2015!

Immersion will be happening alot in the future, you could even call it the golden age of immersion.

I find it strange there is so much talk about these things messing up peoples immersion... I can walk through any current and most older MMOs and you see immersion breaking names running in all areas and the general chat is not only painful to see, but even more immersion breaking than the names...

Makes me wonder how many people are complaining about asian mmo's immersion breaking features, while  they run around with names like "harry potter" or "hot pants".

I think the real sad part is not that such a car breaks immersion,

it's that that video and the physics shown reminded me most of this:
