Until a game has realistic world housing, I can't be immersed. Where is everyone living? Are we all wandering warriors who vanish when we log off? Do we all stay at inns? If that is the case, let us rent instanced rooms from the inns, and have them act as banks.
Something. Anything..
And we should require toilet paper as well! Some things just aren't necessary and they clutter games. I agree with housing but it's not a game changer for me. We still need to use the old brain now and again and kick in our imagination.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Um, no. Console players as a whole are a younger demographic and that's fine, but they are not a natural fit with the generally older, more technology-savvy demographic that plays PC games. Maturity isn't a direct function of age, but age is the single biggest contributor to it and while it is definitely true that you will find immature players in both camps, it is also undeniably true that your chances of avoiding them are higher in the PC world than in the console world. That's not a dig on console players as a whole, it's just an experiential observation.

Looking forward to giving this game a play, so glad some of the new mmo's coming out are breaking the wow clone mold, about time.. I think this game will offer a lot, I have followed this game for awhile, but time will tell
THe immersion factor was always very good in the single player ES games......I'd expect this one to do well with it also....And yes immersion is very important, especially if you want to keep players long term.
Originally posted by Destai Any chance at immersion is ruined by the faction lock. They have such a great game otherwise.
Faction lock this and faction lock that.. Have you all ever sit back and thought that, maybe, having that rivalry and sense of belonging spicing up and giving meaning to what you do in the game while bringing people together is what's missing from otherwise quality modern mmo?
I remember a hundred people in a raid screaming "For the horde" and playing one game fanaticly for many years. I don't actually see anyone tattooing neither "Proud Elin" nor "HerpDerp realm for the win!" (gw2) on their faces.
And for that matter, NO, player made guilds-alliances are not the same. No artwork, no lore, no music, no quests to back it up, softcore gamers denied the fun.. The list goes on and on.
And the worst.. Sub+ box + cash shop. And you keep on crying over your faction locks.
Faction rivalry is fine - when it doesn't limit where I can freaking walk. I'd like to at least see the enemy factions in their zones, rather than be subject to the pervasive phasing they're implementing. It makes no sense to have this feature and quite frankly it flies in the face of what the series is about. If this game wasn't an Elder Scrolls game, I wouldn't care about the faction lock. Unfortunately they're trying to put Elder Scrolls into a DAOC sized hole.
And you speak of it giving meaning - can I walk into their cities and fight those players? Can we go there and fight their guards and NPCs like we could Everquest? No. It's a meaningless feature that only limits an otherwise immersive game.
The fact I have to complete my faction's zone before moving on is ridiculous. The fact that I can't see enemy players in those zones is unacceptable and destroys any chance at meaning the faction would lock would otherwise give.
I don't know how to be immersed when most players around you will be either Dragon something or Night blade whatever. I prefer an adventurer or a la Skyrim, select race and that's it.
BethSoft is no longer a company whose products I associate with "immersion". They seemed to have lost the essence of the idea in their goal of creating the perfect RPG factory.

Vivasvan, I think you are confusing your preferences with some sort of rules set in stone.
And it is very, very Elder Scrolls-like to have a home that you decorate. Often with the skulls of your foes, or other such similar mementos....
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.
Every MMO while in Beta states their game is immersive sooo much more than those "other" MMOs.
Too bad one of the many complaints in this games beta is the lack of it.
