HOLD THE BOSS

simpliussimplius Member UncommonPosts: 1,134

just had a short return to this game

and it didnt take long , before the old gripes got refreshed

most of it is quite enjoyable, but the bad Things are enough to drive me away Again

first of all,,the dynamic events

spawning an OP boss in the middle of a newbie levelling area

if i wanted that kind of excitement, i would roll on a PVP server,,but i dont

or i could go in a raid,,but i dont

i chose to level a new character for fun and easy gameplay, and getting ganked isnt fun for me

class balance is one of the worst in current mmos..its as bad, as old school wow

and the storyline quests have huge difficulty spikes,,one mission might be a short 5 min conversation

the next can be a total nightmare, just like some of the old class quests in wow

they can put in the hardcore stuff,,but if they were smart, they would keep it in certain areas

spreading it all over the place only ruins the day for both player types

what area were you in and what boss was this?
  • SiphaedSiphaed Member RarePosts: 1,114

If this isn't one of the vaguest, weirdest thread I've ever seen...ever.

    Q's are as follows:

    1) What class are you?

    2) What race are you playing?

    3) What "boss" are you referring to spawning?  (Humans = Shadow Behemoth; Sylvari = Jungle Worm; Asura = Fire Elemental; Norn = Maw Shaman; and Charr = ...hmm, I don't know ???)

    4) Are you using the basic dodge mechanics and moving constantly when fighting mobs such as your personal quests and world mobs?

    5) Tacos?

  • djazzydjazzy Member Posts: 3,578

for the life of me I can't think of an "OP" boss in any of the starter areas

the only one I can think of is the Flame Shaman when the game was in beta

cant remember the names, it was the sylvari lvl 15 area

Theres a naga boss at the coast, who is able to oneshot a lot of players

GW2 is a game without trinity, so you gotta jump around arcade like and dodge like hell. Guess you forgot about that drawback when you returned ;-)

MMOs finally replaced social interaction, forced grouping and standing in a line while talking to eachother.

Now we have forced soloing, forced questing and everyone is the hero, without ever having to talk to anyone else. The evolution of multiplayer is here! We won,... right?

Ah I know that boss, the trick is to tr up with a few people and use dodge!

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

    lol

Dont think we are playing the same GW2 game.. ;P

If an event is tagged as "group event", don't try to solo it.

    hmm, I soloed that champion

but I digress, a lot of champions and bosses can one - shot you. Almost all of them have some kind of wind up animation for those abilities, just have to dodge that.

The Naga is around level 14, you should have some inkling of how the game works by then.

    and heres the problem,,dodging

if i wanted to do the boss dance, i would have chosen the content for that

i wanted some easy trigger time,,not to grind points for my next epic

ordering a cup of coffee, but being served a glas of milk because its more healthy

should that make me a happy customer?

you chose the wrong game if you don't like or want to move in combat
  • simpliussimplius Member UncommonPosts: 1,134

    looks like it

i made it to 80 on my ranger, without dodging, though

so, i definately got my Moneys worth

but they wont keep me playing for 5+ years, like wow did

and they wont get nowhere near the same amount of $$, that i gave blizzard

  • BladestromBladestrom Member UncommonPosts: 5,001
No simplius the problem is you bought a game that has dodging, and you don't like dodging.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Pretty much every event tagged as 'group' outside of the dragons and Arah is soloable if you know how to play your class. But thats fair advice to new players.

    Regarding the OP:

    1) Its fairly obvious based on mob indicators / dynamic event indicators if you are tackling something designed for a group. Champions very rarely spawn without warning and its quite easy to escape. Even if you die, the penalty isnt really enough to warrant rage quitting.

    2) Classes are about as balanced as you are going to get in a MMO. Every class has viable builds.

    3) Storyline quests range from very easy to easy. I can't even begin to understand how you would fail one.

I hate to say it, but its a learn to play thing. GW2 has a lot of faults, none of the things that you mentioned are included in that list.

    Here's how to fix that:

Next time you're in the game, open your settings, specifically the keybind settings.

In the bracket with the movement functions, there's a function called "About face" which makes your character turn around and face the opposite direction. It's unbound by default, so bind it to a key you can reach comfortably.

Next time you run into an area with such a boss, hit that key and keep running.

    Problem solved.

oh yea,,the new action mmos,,how did that work out?

    TERA? SWTOR? this one?

i think the fat panda shows the answer to that one

If you're getting ganked in GW2 you seriously need to become more aware of your surroundings in any game. I can't say that this has ever happened to me unless I've been fooling around on my phone while running around Tyria.

Why didn't you just avoid the boss if its that troublesome ._.

And if you think there is a class disbalance, lets PvP it out. You tell me what toon to play, you'll play whatever you want. I'm pretty sure I'll gut you with any class if I play it properly :)

P.S: You can't lineup this game to SWTOR and TERA, sorry. 1 year in its still successful :)

    Now go learn to play!

you clearly dont know , what im talking about

if there was a boss , i wouldnt have entered the area in the first place

what pisses me off, is the fact, that even at low level ORDINARY quests, they spawn some of those bosses

hold the sugar doesnt mean put in twice as much milk

    does that compute?

Then don't whine about stuff you know nothing about. It's that simple. You have 2 dodges. That alone makes you invulnerable for ~3 seconds if you just spam it out. It's actually easy to solo such boss btw. They are usually slowpokes and/or they are like

"Ey bro ... I'm about to hit you so hard your teeth will fall down, just give me 2-3 seconds to build up some power"

Plenty of time to STEP OUT OF THE WAY. Not even dodge needed. Just focus

You seem to be the only one having this issue... you're supposed to constantly move around in GW2 combat, not stand still, so bosses shouldn't be spawning behind you and surprising you all of the time. This has never happened to me.

I never had a problem in that area.. Even in beta when it was harder. Might need to try playing your class a little differently.

ive looked at the different builds etc

the builds, that i enjoy playing must be abysmal, cos theyre not even on the lists

im fine with the fact , that it excludes me from any dungeon and end game

i can even live without story missions (though i would prefer an easy mode with reduced rewards)

but the low level content should be enjoyable for ALL classes/builds /playstyles

    and it isnt

wow is still light years ahead in that respect

they keep their bosses in dungeons, or in special zones

There is NOTHING in the beginner zones that constitutes a boss that isn't a group event. EVERYTHING else can be solo'd.

Seriously stop complaining about the game and learn to dodge. If you can't do that then go play another game. It really is that simple.
