The distance you can do nothing about. What you can do is ask your isp to check your connection to see if there is excessive noise ( read static ) on the line. if there is then they can take steps to reduce it. That is it really. You could trace the route and then email the owners of all the routers inbetween to ask them to check their lines but honestly, those emails would simply end up in a recycle bin. As others have said though 150ms from Spain to the US is pretty good.
Originally posted by drbaltazar Ms had a fix for the timer last monthly patch I hear.good to know!I all have to check it out!ping in the computer is just a number.true!but often the rubberbanding feel of game shouldn't be present at 150 ms human perception is good for 80ms but for this to be possible you would need to compare two image so what his problem is is in his system not the network below 250 ms pretty much all game are smooth.if he feel lag then its two thing .the game DRM or your computer.I made suggestion on the expectancy its his computer.enhanced tsc is the fix Intel made to tsc.ms use tsc by default but the enhanced tsc is what you want if your computer support it.this is why ms disable everything.because the os have to be compatible for older computer.ya window xp lunch era computer.
Rubberbanding as you put it is packet loss, nothing to do with ping and more to do with your connection quality to the server.
Software like this can't reduce your ping by any significant amount. At best, it can perform certain tweaks to optimize your network card, but it can not affect the time it takes for your data to travel across the internet.
i must say you're mistaken , i used to play on aion EU from DUBAI , i had 8MB fibre optic connection so theoretically i should get great ping , but i used to get 700-1k constant lag and yes that was normal , no software issues/connection etc , i heard about battleping , back when it was in open beta test ( was free to use ) and it helped me so much , my ping dropped from 700~ to 250~ , i shit you not , i finally was able to pvp , rift and actually experience the game nicely , bk to OP .
such softwares can have either huge impact or insignificant impact , depending on your quality connection and the cause of your lag , now like previous people said , ping is distance factor , if infact the distance is quite far between you and game server , nothing can save you unless you move closer , how battleping helped me ? well my ISP routes its traffic through 3-4 countries in the Middle East before letting it go to its destination address , battleping only changes that routing directly to game server instead of usual way , but if i for example want to play DOTA2 or LoL ON AUSTRALIA from dubai , i will still get huge ping regardless of what i use because distance is too great .
final notes : 150ms is quite good on US servers imho ... you can either live with it or wait till that game gets EU provider or private server.
Problem is server side and probably distance. with 50ms you dont see much teleports ingame, with 150 you see more than with 50
I don't what other methods have then .. payed proxy?
Stuttering and teleporting indicates a problem with packet loss, not ping.
MM then all server are losing packets? Everyone on server get that, but I think with less 50ms this occurs less often. In that case, how I can stop to lose packets?
Age of Conan are merged servers EU to US. Age of Conan have a really CRAP optimization.
For ppl don't know this game, ms and teleports issues are vital, this not are a swtor or wow, combo based system is more samed to an fps, so the low ms and no more teleports are the key for a good play..
I highly doubt you are losing packets on a scale which could cause a degraded game experience. The most likely reason you are not able to play Age of Conan well is that the game is not made well and does not allow tolerance for higher pings. The best thing you could do is complain about it on their forums, but they aren't likely to make changes unless a lot of people say they have the same problem.
If you want to test for packet loss, there are a few ways to check. I'm not sure if pingtest.net works in your country, but that would be a good way to test. Be sure to select a server which is close to the AoC servers. You can also manually ping servers using Windows command prompt. Find an IP address of a few servers near the AoC servers and do ping -t ipaddress. You can press Ctrl + C to cancel and see the results.
sorry men !it is fixable yes!that being said it is a bit more complex then flipping a switch!ya i did fix mine but i didn't expect big corp like micrososft to put so many compromise in the name of backward compatibility!bottom line?dont bother!yes it makes a huge difference but the effort is colossal!
I bet drbaltazar launched (engineered/build from spare parts from a 1972 Fiat/launched from a cattle pasture in southern France in the dead of night so as to avoid radar detection and anti-ballistic countermeasures) his own private communications satellite that links up to various terrestrial data hubs, giving him 3-hop status to all major internet backbones.
some tweak here are good ?make sure to read each tweak and apply if needed ! also make sure to read bottom comment!since more tip are avail there ! if you don't know something ? don't happly said tweak ! some tweak sound good but they are very situational (like unloking the mtu to gigabyte speed!

I wasn't mistaken. I was referring to the OP's situation. Yours was vastly different. If you had a 150 ping from Dubai to the US, I would say Battleping wouldn't help.
Distance isn't the only factor which causes a high ping. As you experienced, sometimes the route chosen by your low-quality ISP can be overcrowded, which causes high pings. By paying for Battleping, you likely connected through a nearby proxy server which had a much better route across the ocean. Either way, the traffic had to travel from point A to point B. The proxy server only gives you an alternative route. It didn't "speed up" your data; it only routed you around the congestion.
Also, your bandwidth of 8Mbps means nothing in terms of connection quality. Relating the two is a mistake, like saying my car can go 100 MPH so it must have fast acceleration.
Again, people are suggesting tweaks to the registry and local computer when the problem is not there. You might reduce your ping by 5ms on average, but it won't fix the problem. If the problem is somewhere on the internet, you can't fix it. You can use a different route, but in this case, 150ms is probably as low as you will get from Spain to the US.
I am surprised nobody has acknowledged the issue being with AoC's server code. It does not allow any tolerance for latency. The server doesn't care if someone was close enough to you 150ms ago, even though you didn't see them move away. It only cares that you aren't close enough and that causes melee attacks to fail.
I have a question, Im playing a game with game servers on US, and im from spain on EU.
Its a mmorpg but is really essential have low ms, im playing with 157ms sometimes and it's unplayable, and I know guys from US/Canada and they have 50ms, so they are op for play.
How I can get 50ms?
I have really good connection atleast for my country I have 100mb of speed.
MB is some method for connect to a good server on us by proxy and something then connect on the game and get low ms?
Thx in advance!
You can too check the below steps:
Start button -> Run -> type gpedit.msc Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Network -> QoS Packet Scheduler -> Limit Reservable Bandwidth Set to Enabled -> Bandwidth Limit = 0% -> Apply
You could pay your ISP to improve the priority of you packets, ie a non-standard QoS policy, but as you are going through different ISPs it probably wouldn't help you much as the others would class your packets as standard internet packets and the speed on the rest of the internet would be the same.
Also ping is only one part ,i get awsome ping ,no drpped packet and yet ton of issue pop up .why?most of the time user system are better then server in their setting .if say a server expect 50 ms and you are at 20ms?game go crazy.like i said ,most of gamer issue come from window and its concervative setting.to simplify ?the os is set in a manner to make sure the worst server can keep up!yep this mean if you got a pentium one server (just a random exemple)then your 2014 will have to snail pace at pentium one speed in say world of warcraft.
To all the people in this thread who suggested software will help, ROFL. There is really nothing you can do on your end that will improve ping. You are totally reliant on your ISP and their internet connections.

While I was hoping this necro thread would die back down, there are a few truths:
Software can't speed up light, but that doesn't necessarily mean it can't help.
I have read that some ISPs and backbone providers will prioritize encrypted traffic in their traffic shaping. Now, that only would be of a benefit if the node your going through is congested sufficiently enough that the router had a pretty deep queue of packets, and that in and of itself is going to impact your ping, but theoretically, having an encrypted packet would put you closer to the head of the line and help reduce that impact. I don't know if this is as relevant as it once was any more, because more and more illicit and P2P traffic, as well as just day to day https, has went encrypted.
Some ISPs don't have the best routing information. If it's taking 30 hops to reach your destination, and by going through a VPN you cut that to 20 hops because you are getting routed differently, that ~possibly~ could result in a lower ping. This is probably the biggest benefit that VPN services for gaming can bring, they have optimized routes from their VPN datacenter to the game servers - it's not a miracle, your still at the mercy of your own ISP and various hops between you and your VPN, but it can help in some cases.
Lastly, you can use VPN services to bypass regional restrictions sometimes. All the traffic from your end will appear to be coming from the VPN as far as the game server is concerned, so if you get a European VPN and your in Australia, the server will probably think your in Europe. There are some additional software measures that servers can take to verify this if they really really want to, but most don't bother.
Software can't cut a 300ms ping to <50ms, but it can sometimes help to make a 300ms ping connection playable.

thx for all!!
Please help!!
Anyone know how to fix the lost of packets??
Run traceroute
See where packets are being lost at
95% chance - you can't do anything about it.
157 ms unplayable?!

Hello there,
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/5578595314
This may help you, I used this many times in World of Warcraft and did a lot for me.
Hope it will work for you also
If it works i think you will get a ping somewhere around 50-70ms
and after you added the entries I believe you need to restart your PC (Guide did not mention it).
Best Wishes
Kraako

I use WTFast to get 120-140ish MS overseas on a 12/1 connection.
Note that your game needs to be in the supported games list for this to be applicable.
Here is an example of how it would work with WoW.
You can too check the below steps:
Start button -> Run -> type gpedit.msc
Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Network -> QoS Packet Scheduler -> Limit Reservable Bandwidth
Set to Enabled -> Bandwidth Limit = 0% -> Apply
Try a before/after ping test on WhoisXY.com
Resurrected dead thread.
