Help! Best Anti-Virus?

UifzUifz Member Posts: 252

Help Guys! What is the best Anti-Virus out there. I heard there was this huge big "Worm" causing Computers to Reboot every 60 seconds when they would log on. And I am looking for a good Anti-Virus. Price is not an issue here. I know AVG Works good, Norton is good. But I am looking to see which is the most effective. Thanks.

i hate to break the news to you but no anti virus protects against the "Blaster" worm.  its not a virus, or a piece of foriegn code that gets introduced into your comp via an upload by any normal means.  the worm exploits a piece of poor scource scripting that microsoft corp neglected to fix prior to the launch of xp and 2000.  the worm takes advantage of this loop hole in scripting and introduces a "fake" update and causes buffer overloads in your comp, hence the restarting process.  its a brilliant piece of software by whoever wrote it... there is actually no possible means to fix the infected computer by any standard means, since the worm will only allow a computer to work in safe mode.  even a format wont fix it, this worm backs itself up in the cmos bios of the comp, so a formatted computer will just become reinfected upon reinstall of an OS.  The worm is completely 100% preventable however, you just need to install the critical update patches from microsoft.  The removal progam for the worm can be found at www.symantic.com.

I just started using McAfee Virus Scan and Guardian (AFTER I somehow downloaded or did something to make my computer annoyingly continually reboot if I was connected to the internet!)  Anyway, the software is very easy to use and I can now use the internet with no problem.  I should have installed it a long time ago image

Avast is an awesome, free anti-virus program.

    Get Avast Free

As for anti-spyware progs, I use 4, and run them in this order:

    Hijack This
    Adaware
    Spybot Search and Destroy
MS Anti-Spyware (MS actually did something good)
