Hey guys!
It's that time of year again. I asked for a PC sometime last year and found the advice spectacular. However, this year my problem wants to build a custom PC and asked me for advice. I, personally, have been out of the loop since sandy bridge and don't know anything in regards to newer generations of graphics and cpus.
My brother is looking to spend $900 for the computer itself. He plays games like skyrim, dota 2 and is looking to play them at ultra or near ultra settings.
Any advice in terms of what to buy is greatly appreciated. Great deals going on right now through the end of the week would be awesome as we're looking to order everything within the next 2-3 days.
Let me know, thanks!

I'll start this off with the usual round of questions then.
What is expected in that $900 budget? Is that simply for the computer by itself (I realized you said that but please look over the following list) or does it need to include peripherals such as monitor/mouse/keyboard/speakers or headphones/ups or surge protector? If any of these are missing they probably should be factored in.
Will you or your brother be building the system yourselves or at the very least have assistance and thus the budget doesn't need to include a builders fee? Or will we need to consider the usual 10-20% builders fee tacked on top of the parts cost?
Is there an expected level of performance and if so for what games specifically will this system most likely be used to play? Again I realized you mentioned a few games but what matters here is at what resolution and will it include HD texture packs (Skyrim for example).
While I personally feel this question is most likely a "no" is there a specific preference for brand? Intel vs AMD or nVidia vs AMD.
There are other questions that can be asked but for now that pretty much sums up what we need to know at minimum to offer any real advice that actually makes sense for your question.
this is about the cheapest I can see for what your wanting.
It'll be a custom PC that I will be building for him - he's simply paying for it all. He won't be running skyrim on any HQ texture models and has a 23" monitor so I don't expect anything past 1080p. As I mentioned, computer only, peripherals not included - so the entire budget is for the hardware + tower + os.
Brand is a non issue. Whatever will provide the best bang for the buck while staying within the budget is preferred.
It'll do what you need it to and hold ya off for a couple of years imho.

Here is a build for you that will run just under $900 before the rebates. Some of these are combo deals or have a promo code so keep that in mind. They may expire if you do not order soon.

Total $ 857 before $35 in mail in rebates. If you want to spend the full $900 you can always bump the GPU up to a 7950 maybe, get a bigger SSD, or maybe a 1tb HDD instead of 500gb for storage.
That would be good advice if he had mentioned a PS3 of FF in any of his posts.
