Hi
Can you help me decide if it's worth dropping money on this game:
What I want:
-A long time to level or preferably no level cap at all. I don't mind grinding while my char is levelling. I actually like it quite a lot.
-Interesting crafting and economy
-Deep and complex skill trees so that every class plays differently.
-At least some aspects of sandbox-ness
What I *don't* want:
-Another WoW clone where "the real game starts at endgame".
-Gear treadmills.
-You must group at max level to do anything.
-You have 6 abilities like League of Legends (looking at you GW2)
I also want a game where the tactics are hard to learn and the strategy is deep.
Given this...Yay or nay on FFXIV?
thanks

Nay,
you can try look at game play on you tube for more infor
Not based on the reasons you give.
If you had read even a few posts about this game you would have easily answered your questions.
PROS
-Great gameplay
-All Jobs can be played on one character
-Familar Mobs and places in FFXIV
-A true story line
-Huge Linkshells
-All Crafting can be maxed by one character
CONS
-No complex tree skills, but the game allows you to mix and make your own class Kind of! But Jobs are better IMHO.
-Game has a gear treadmill
-Not persay a WoW clone but it's not far off
-Elitists are rampant and refuse to bring along those who aren't use to instances, want only certain jobs to Min/Max ( Blackmages for AOE, sorry MONKS we aren't wanted)
-Bitching amongst grown ass people!
-Crafting is a grind
Below is where we can disscuss and come up with new ideas for Sandparks!

Thanks for the all. It doesn't look like the type of game I'd like.
I just tried Vanguard again thanks to this site and don't know why I never played it more before. Have also been having some fun with Rift's F2P so I guess that'll keep me going in the MMO dept. for a while.
the game is average just something to do till next year when the big games are coming.
its worth playing for a month, the combat system is bad the targeting its like wow you first have to click on the target.
I think they spent just enough to get them out of the mess of the previous game and it worked.
the most pretty game I have ever played.
I personaly if I wanted something not to bad to keep me busy ,I would buy the game and sub. for one month.
the world is huge you can create 2 caracters and play hard for 2 months.
You answered your own question game is riddled with what you don't want as described above.
Currently playing - FF14ARR
Previous games - SWG, World of Warcraft, ShadowBane, Warhammer, Age of Conan, Darkfall, Planetside Asheron's Call, Everquest, Everquest 2, Too many.
There are alot of free MMOs out there...Don't bother with the flavor of the month and waste your money....If you wait 6 months usually something drastic happens with most MMOs and they are either free or greatly reduced.....
OP, what i am unclear about is how Rift is an acceptable alternative, based on your lists.
and if Rift is acceptable, frankly, you would find a lot more to enjoy in FFXIV
"There are at least two kinds of games.
One could be called finite, the other infinite.
A finite game is played for the purpose of winning,
an infinite game for the purpose of continuing play."
Finite and Infinite Games, James Carse
It seems that the OP's list of prerequisites rapidly loses it's importance if the game is F2P ?
Why do you play Massively Multiplayer Online Rol Playing Games?
no, it's not for you
move along now
