I Got Hacked . Square Enix Closed my Account !!

TrepidfiberTrepidfiber Member CommonPosts: 4

I have been playing 5 MMO's and never had a "hack" problem . I always use Mail account that I don't use anywhere else . I never got a spam mail to "click" any strange link . I am using Kaspersky Internet Security "Original Copy" and always kept me safe from  keyloggers and basic stuff .  For a reason one day I couldn't login the game . The next day I released that I was hacked and my account was suspended From Square Enix . I used customer service and asked them nicely what I should do for them to open my account . They asked me to send one ID copy on a email and so I did . The next day they informed me that the birth date was different and for that reason they couldnt do anything .

The only reason the birth date would be different is if I entered Month and Day different order or if it could be changed by the hacker .  I sent them my serial key explaining them that If the date was wrong , which I doubt it was clearly by mistake . " On the website I can see the Birth date being correct .  I needed further information for that to do , since my character is already level 50 and thats my main concern . They didnt bother me answering to me again and I just got an email that they closed my account because I breached the user agreement .

My Question is , are there more people that had the same problem ?

Have you been treated the same way ?

I am open to suggestions if there is anything I can do more . Thx in advance.

Yes, it seems like the customer service is horrible, perhaps not subpar in comparison to other mmorpgs under the same period of time, but definitely horrible.

As for the hacking issue: the defences you had before will not be enough forever; as hackers master their trade, you'll need to increase your security. The reason for why I would find it very hard to believe that SquareEnix has been breeched, is because I have not seen any reports of accounts with physical tokens being hacked (note that I refer to "physical" and not the cell phone variant, since cell phones can be hacked).

Hacking emails, hacking other sites you visit, hacking cell phones, creating keyloggers you haven't been able to detect yet: all those are possible.

So what breach of the user agreement did you get accused of?

You didnt get banned because you were hacked. You got banned for something the "hacker" did. Im curious what it was.

you must have clicked a gold selling website or attempted to use their service. That alone is enough for them to keylog your account. Think long and hard... did you  visit any of these websites?

Square released a news announcement a week or so ago warning all players that while Square themselves had not been breached many websites affiliated with them had been so if your personal information on one websites account is the same even if you used a different email or account name if you use the same password on multiple sites that could very well have done it.

Also by closed did they mean deleted or shut it down so it can longer be in use but it is still saved to the server if it is the latter there is still hope.

A gold seller spammed for gold .They said that "I breached the agreement" and they should have IP on the players that logged in last.  I never click on Gold seller links . Although your thoughts are right . I would suggest the same that this guy "me" must did something wrong .  Anyway I proposed them to give them the receipt with the serial key of the game is registered on my account but they just didnt care .... anyway its not a flaming thread . Just need information if there is anyone else that had the same problem that managed to take his account back

Next time instead of arguing with some payed by the hour support person soon as you get a hold of someone demand to speak to a supervisor and act as obnoxious as possible until you get a supervisor on the phone. My mom worked for a phone support company in her early twenties and she said the key to getting anything accomplished is acting as dumb and obnoxious as you can be, because then the support will simply want to pass you on to a higher up as soon as possible and not deal with you anymore.

So the key is act dumb and obnoxious for the common phone support person until you get a supervisor on the line then go back to being annoyed but polite once you are speaking to a supervisor.

Because yeah the average support person doesn't care they're only getting paid around $12 an hour to listen to people complain and answer basic questions.

While I do think that Square has CS issues.

This problem is not their fault, if your information was incorrect from account creation. They cannot be blamed for taking a hard stance. More than likely though blizzard would ask for further proof and talk to you.

It seems that FFXIV:ARR is being heavily targeted by goldsellers, possibly even rival groups of gold sellers.

Today I even saw a "sponsored link" on the FFXIV game page on Amazon.co.uk, offering: "Cheap FFXIV GiL - Buy Now & Get 10% Bonus FF14 Gil Within 30mins Delivery Guarantee" !!!

These guys will do anything and everything to push their product, and to get hold of more GiL. If they can somehow take over your account, it's a triple bonus for them: they can sell you GiL, use your account to spam /tells and general chat and even create and run mining bots to generate shards to sell on the AH.

Apparently, the gold sellers are also really persistent in challenging and appealing their bans, because they know that it will tie-up a SE employee and waste their time. Any time spent in re-investigating a ban or reviewing appeals is a gain for the goldsellers, and keeps their not-yet-banned accounts active longer.

I sitll believe that it's always the player's fault for getting hacked/scammed aside from a brute force hack done to the game.

But Sony CS from what I hear really is turrible.

I remember when I played WoW I got hacked, most likely because I baught some gold of the website and they got some details of me. Anyway Blizzard was kind enough to return all my stolen gears.

I am in the same boat, except I am not putting up with this shit. I am getting all the required information and I am suing them. I have irrefutable proof I was not logged on during the time of when my account was hacked and being used to spam gil messages.

This is breach of contract, emotional distress, and loss of real world finances.

I do hope you go through with this, some people get upset then cannot be bothered some weeks down the line. You may well manage to tip their CS standards into the better for us all!

As someone who plays the game regularly I can tell you I see many people normal names being used to sell gil having been hacked. Because its so many I do wonder if SQE have had a breach.

The fact that there's so many hijacked accounts is a clear indication that many, many people make no effort whatsoever to secure their account and login details. Possibly many of them have no clue what security means anyway, they just want to login and play a game. Long and complicated passwords are most likely just seen as a hassle...

Clearly there are also many, many people that buy GiL and shards/crystals from the goldspammers. How do I know that ? Because the goldspammers would not be falling all over themselves to provide the service if they weren't making good money off of their efforts.

If SE really had a "major breach", it would be in their OWN interest to disclose it as soon as possible. The longer they hide that kind of info, the more hacked accounts they will have to investigate and ban. And there's a very high likelihood that most banned accounts represent a complete loss of months of potential sub fees.

ROFL man please let us know how this will go for you, the only possible point you have is Breach of Contract, and even then I don't really see it.

Emotional distress, yea not gonna happen.

Loss of real world finances? Good luck with that too.

You might be able to prove that you were not logged on during the time the gold spam occurred, but unless you can prove that Square is responsible for you getting hacked, you have no basis for suing them.

will cost him a fair amount to even try to sue them, not like any legal representation is going to be free, and any decent lawyer etc will see this as a no win situation and will probably demand upfront fee's.

Still, Lawyers got to eat too, so go ahead, its your money to spend as you wish image

Not much you can do, but pray. I will Give you a great example my house has been broken into 3 times, and all I can do is call  the cops and hope get my stuff back and takes months if lucky. We got entire neighborhood on look out now to. I now had to get video cameras, a fence put up and a dog to prevent it . So i would recommend you to take ways to prevent It.  Like there hard token or there software token.

Squares customer service is the worst in the world also . and square is lacking on there entire preventing people from Phishing information from people . Since many links to there sites customer services is now is just people that created a website to phis your information. So it possible you called the wrong number or you went to the wrong live chat. Yes the phishers got professional sounding people on the other end.

You need make sure you dig into square website to find right numbers or live chat., This something the gill sellers and the phishers been taking advantage of for years on ffxi.

The difference is the cops dont lock your house down, and kick you onto the streets without any access to your house.

The correct analogy is more alongside the rape analogy. Blame the victim.

A person walking down the street as usual gets raped and calls the cops, the cops then lock the rape victim up for adultery (Which is an actual case in the news recently) and then everybody blames the rape victim for being out late at night, or maybe drawing the attention of the rapist by possibly going nearby the wrong bar.

Its not the fucking victims fault its the cops for not handling the problem correctly, nor in a reasonable timely manner.

I was raped over a week and a half ago, put in jail and I have yet to even see anybody of influence telling me that my case is being looked at.
