The World of Warcraft team announced via Twitter today that the feature film based on the iconic MMO from Blizzard Entertainment will be released in December 2015.

We’re pleased to announce that @Legendary Pictures’ WARCRAFT will be released by @UniversalPics on December 18, 2015.

Now, if they would just announce the cast....

They should just make a feature film length cinematic, not a live-action movie. And animation should probably be in house.

I'll wait to the day's end when the moon is high
And then I'll rise with the tide with a lust for life, I'll
Amass an army, and we'll harness a horde
And then we'll limp across the land until we stand at the shore

I hope they get Channing Tatum to play Professor Warcraft.

Wait, so they're not doing a WoW movie with their super awesome and talented cinematic folks, but a live action film? No interest...

Only Uwe Boll can safe this movie.

HEY! You take that back! I love the D&D movie, it's one of the most unintentionally (well okay, Jeremy Irons knew damn well what he was doing) funny movies I've ever seen in my life. The movie does absolutely nothing right, yet still managed to emerge as a beautiful butterfly of absolute awfulness. It's the cinematic equivalent of Hitler In Springtime, and it is GLORIOUS. There's no way you can watch this guy in action and not literally ROFL, unless you're a communist or a robot.

I would love to see a full featured film like Lord of the Rings with a real live cast, but if blizzard is involved and it is animated it will be just as good imho.  If nothing else it will have a huge nerd showing.  I'm already looking forward to it!

edit: Not sure why folks are comparing the D&D movie to something like World of Warcraft. Many, many other films have been developed from fantasy. /shrug

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

After the movie goes mainstream - WoW subs numbers will jump 450% or higher - y9u best be buying up some WoW stock right now or RN for short.

I am on the opposite end. Blizzard makes great animated shorts but the tangibility of real actors is preferable. I really liked some of the names that came with the casting rumors. Anson Mount has been excellent in portraying his character on Hell on Wheels.

Do we think it will just be called "World of Warcraft" or will they throw on something at the end like they do with expansions?

I just freakin hope that the people here who say "make cinemativ" know, that an quality cinematic video or about 7-8mins takes SEVERAL MONTHS to create, eats a god eating amount of money and is a hella shit of work?

This would have been more relevant to my interests back when I actually played WoW... now I am not so sure. Especially after the riveting "story" Blizzard came up with for Diablo 3. I suppose I will have to check up on the movie's progress at a later time to make a determination of whether I will actually go see it or not.

2 years away?! Warcraft (notice I said Warcraft not WoW cus this is a Warcraft movie) - damn good bet they'll have some other AAA game based in the Warcraft world soon'ish cus' I don't see WoW being enough to get enough people interested in a live action movie to make the movie a success.

I hope to god that it is animated. I don't have much faith in companies bringing game/animated series's lore to life in live action anymore after seeing how terrible the Dragonball Z movie was. I still can't believe how bad they screwed the pooch on that one. All they had to do was have the Wachowski brothers make it and use the same type of fight scenes they used in the final battle in Matrix: Revolutions and add in beams/waves/energy balls/etc.

Playing - Minecraft, 7 Days To Die, Darkfall:ROA, Path of Exile

    Waiting for -

I guess one thing to take away from this is that Blizzard will not let the movie sux..... too much, they'll rather scrap it than let it go out (like they do with their games) but then again with big boys like Universal on board maybe Blizzard have given up that right.

Could you imagine a Warcraft tv series with the quality of Game of Thrones?...
  • mindmeldmindmeld Member UncommonPosts: 229

Talk about pressure putting out a release date before they have even gotten the movie production started more than just a script and a director.

You could hope for a good movie but im very sceptic, havent seen if any good movie script been made after a game.

The movie had nothing to do with "WoW" its a "Warcraft" movie likley going to focus on passed events.

"Chris Metzen, Blizzard's VP of Creative Development, stated that the "Warcraft" film was originally set in the era of Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, however that idea was dropped. It was believed that the story would be too similar to "The Lord of the Rings", and that Warcraft had reached its current level of popularity through its Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG), rather than the previous Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games. The movie will primarily be told from the Alliance's point of view, though Chris Metzen says his heart lies with the Horde. Metzen said that the main character is set to be a new hero described as a "kick-ass Human" and an "Anti-Thrall"."
