I love using the controller !

hcoelhohcoelho Member UncommonPosts: 529

Thats it, i love it.

I wish every mmo had an UI for controller users. The game is great, but i wouldn't be enjoying it so much if i had to play it with keyboard and mouse !

It's so much more confortable to play relaxed on my chair or my bed.

Do you guys feel the same ? i wish people talked more about it, maybe other companies would start doing MMOs controller friendly.

I play with the gamepad as well, and I love it. It was very well thought out. FFXI was well done too.

Same! Best controller UI ever. It's just incredible how much detail and configuration options they put into it. On top of that it's snappy and very precise.

I use the controller to. Lil hard to target though. I know theres a way to make the L1(i think it is) cycle target groups. But I cant find a way to unbind auto-run and it messed me up when I tried target groups.

If you guys know a way to unbind the auto-run let me know.

To cycle through enemies hold L2 and tap R1 to cycle to the right or hold R2 and tap L1 to cycle to the left.

Lots of hidden stuff too. For example L1+R3 brings up mouse cursor with L2 and R2 being left and right click.

huh. Ill try that. Not use to playing with a controller or consoles so I will see if i can manage it with finesse

I'm lovin the controller but here's the main flaw with it that gets really annoying in higher level areas where target timeing is key.....when you cycle targets with L1 R2 it sometimes targets enemies that are to far away...there is no option to target the nearest enemy...you can ONLY tab target the closest enemy on the PC keyboard but there's no option for that on controller...so the main problem I'm having is sometimes I want to attack theTitan in my my face but I end up targeting the lady bug playing with flowers in the background.....it can get really bad in high end dungeons when 1 second of bad targeting for my tank causes a wipe...it's almost a deal breaker for me to not subb because its a serious flaw

Thats cool ! Is there a place to see those hidden stuff ? any wiki of sorts ?

Targeting is difficult for sure... Are any of you guys a healer ? healing must be tricky with the controller.

    Wow cool.

Or you could use this cool invention called a keyboard. It has roughly 108 fully functional key that are programmable. And you can almost literally quintuple that number by using Shift+<key>, and Ctrl+<key>, and Alt+<key> key combinations. You can even type out words..its insane. I'll tell you a little secret Alt+Shift try it sometime, but shhh keep it hush, hush.

Ohh did I mention the mouse? Pfft I wont even go into it. What it can do is just...well I ran out of sarcasm.

Not trying to be an ass, but succeeded in being a smartass, by pointing out just some of the advantages of the keyboard over the gamepad. I mean I seriously cant understand why games developers and gamers choose such and inferior input device, especially for MMO's.

Now I understand in some games having a...I dont know the word, a gradient input, meaning as you push further forward on the stick the faster a character or car would move, would be superior in a lot of games to a keyboard.

But overall that one advantage I dont see making a gamepad better or even equal for most games, especially MMOs.

Dont get me wrong, I dont hate consoles or their gamepads, but I have a "WTF were they thinking" when developers design an MMO to play on a gamepad.

Although to its credit, to its great credit, FFXIV has done a great job of not fucking up and forcing us keyboard and mouse users into using a shitty interface because of a gamepad, yeah Im looking at you Bethesda and Skyrim.

Yeah, this game has excellent gamepad support for a MMO. The controller scheme would only work better if it was an action combat type of MMO, cause the issues I have are mostly with the tab-targetting.

No comment from me on the supposed huge advantage of having 108 different ways to develop carpal tunnel syndrome while trying to play a game where you don't use more than 20 buttons.

Hardcore pc gamers that can't use the stick properly... you guys need to go out more.

Targeting team Members is easy just the up and down arrows cycles your party.

If I could unbind the Auto-Run, Targeting would probably be perfect.

You can set up Targeting groups. Lets say you set up L1 and X  for only cycling non-party member players. And L1 and O for party members. Then L1 and [] Targets only enemies who have aggroed you.

They should add an indicator in the group list like they do with language to indicate if someone is using a game controller.   I would love to see a preference option in group finder to select language and controller options.  I do a lot of pickup groups and really don't want to group with people that can't communicate with me in game.

I hate getting in a group and the tank goes and runs off, doesn't respond to party chat and proceeds to kill the group.  My new test in  group is to do a keyboard check.  Can you hear me typing... yes.  good.  No time to consider dropping the group....

You might love your controller but it kills communication and that is a show stopper in my mind.

i don't have to remove my keyboard to play with a controller... you know that right ? and PS3 gamers can purchase a wireless keyboard and even use a USB one (not sure, but some games allow it).

I chat while playing, no problem at all.

Playing (on my PC) with a controller is the only thing keeping the game interesting. I have played every other mmo (with the exception of FFXI) with a keyboard and mouse and doing it with the controller is so different and refreshing. The only complaint is my ability to target sucks. Thanks to the above for the awesome tips.

Anybody know where I find a good wiki for some tips to playing with a controller?

Great thing about the gamepad is that you can type and fight at the same time without stopping. I'm usually one of the most vocal on the battlefield.

My most used spells are set up to where i can play with my left hand almost exclusively, movement too. Drinking coffee while dropping bombs on enemies is a pleasure in itself.

You can tell who uses a gamepad by the way we move, walking smoothly and never walking backwards (except in first person).

Well than my chat check policy works as good as it can get.

Pssst.. You can remap the buttons if you use a logitech gamepad. the software can overwrite the default buttons.
