Summary
With yesterday’s update the Epic Weapon quest has now become optional.
ANY character (level 85+ ?) may speak to Kinloch Skry’mir in Tenebrous Tangle and get “a shattered weapon“, take it to Researcher Sel’Quar in Lavastorm, and then continue on to Sa’ib Waseem in Paineel in The Sundered Frontier, to do the quests A Fiery Jewel of the Underfoot, and later Epic Repercussions.
doing Cella and other SF dungeons is still required for mythical conversion

"You are all going to poop yourselves." BillMurphy
"Laugh and the world laughs with you. Weep and you weep alone."
epic weapon gear is 5 years old and was designed for level 80 characters
the max level in EQ2 is 95
doing the level 80 epic quests solo w a merc is easy

epic weapons wont benefit you much until you do the mythical buff conversion

Cella is not easy - and will require at least 2 other players
Research Halls requires at least another player (unless you are raid geared)

Right but this is pretty much SOE conceding that the majority of their game is not fun.
this is no different than Blizzard nerfing most of the outdoor heroic content in BC and LK
SOE is reducing the difficulty of 5 year old content
the old level 80 Kunark epic quests are only a prequest to the Mythical Buff
mythical buff questing is unchanged for level 85+ content
